A Daily Lesson in Parenting and Manners: A TR by a real life Wicked Stepmom!

Okay, so maybe that's not entirely the case. But I have been reading your trip report for awhile now and have just gotten around to posting. Can't believe it's taken me this long.

You're doing an incredible job on this thing, CampbellSoup! I'm loving your sweet family and it's very clear to see just how much love you have for them in your writing. And vice versa.

That Sally is something special. I especially loved the story about her and the paintbrushes at Tom Sawyer Island. Among many others.

Keep bringin' it!

I am humbled by your praise! Your Trip reports have long been an inspiration to me. I'm so glad you are reading!! Lots more insanity to come!!!

Thanks for dropping by!!!

I haven't posted to your trip report yet but I did want to do so since I've just found it to be one of those 'laugh one minute, cry the next' types. You have a fabulous writing style and a refreshing perspective on your environment and your children's reactions to it. (Yes, I realize they're your stepchildren, but I believe that the love you show for both of them makes them as much yours as anyone's. Of course, under that premise, I have over 100 children. Works for me!)

I do hope you continue to write but I also understand that this is a very stressful situation in which you're involved. Please make sure you're finding some way to vent those frustrations. Be it exercise, writing, singing in the shower, or whatever.

I do hope all is well on your end and I am really looking forward to more when you're ready.

Thanks so much for your kind words!! I have really enjoyed writing the trip report so far. It's a way to go back and remember a really happy time!!

I'm doing A LOT of running...and singing in the shower...and singing to my dog...he loves it...really...

:)

I'm almost done with the next chapter and it should be up in a day or so! I'm really trying to keep myself on a schedule!!!

Thanks for reading!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Can't wait for the next installment:goodvibes

I hope all is well with your family.

This is a shorty drive by chapter...it's been a nutty week. Prayers for sanity are well appreciated...custody issues and the holidays don't tend to bring out the best in people in terms of "who gets what and for how long..."

*ahem*

happy holidays to all!!! Many traveling mercies to those of you who are traveling for Thanksgiving!!!

I am thankful for all of my Dis friends who are so patient with my tardy and rather *short* chapters!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our trip back to the Wilderness Lodge was uneventful. Teddy fell asleep as soon as we sat down on the boat. As usual his sleeping self cranked out more heat than a bonfire...which was super pleasant along with the humidity. YUCK!

Once we got back into the room I dunked both kids in the bath and scrubbed them down. Teddy slept through the whole thing. The child had hit a wall. He was in sleepy land and was not coming back any time soon. Either way, he was clean and I didn't have to feel grossed out at the thought of putting sweaty kids into clean sheets! Jay had initially worried about all four of us being in one room. He was afraid the kids would have a hard time getting to sleep. Yeah, not so much of a problem. Those kids were DEAD to the world as soon as they hit the sheets. Teddy was always gone well before that. It was not a problem! YAY! One less thing!

After I had showered I got into bed and told myself that I WOULD be going to sleep...immediately. There would be no worrying, no thinking, no going over tomorrow's game plan...just sleep. I'm an anxious sleeper...in case that wasn't apparent. I think too much. I need an off button. But I was determined to get more than an hour of sleep this time. I needed to be on my A game!!

Tomorrow was EPCOT day!!! I was looking forward to Epcot day. The kids had never been there. There would be no sad moments of melancholy or longing. This was a whole new experience! We were making NEW memories!! First Editions!! Happy times that had never been had before. Nothing to compare. Just us...First Edition CampbellScot family memories! WOOHOO!!!

Okay. SLEEP!

Listening to the shower running and Jay singing off key is the last thing I remember. I was zonked out. Thankfully. Because I don't think I've ever been as exhausted as I was that day. We'd had done a full on commando day at Magic Kingdom. It was great...but it was exhausting.

Of course what felt like five minutes...but what was really a solid six hours later (six HOURS?! Wow...I never sleep that long...four at the most...Disney is good for insomniacs too!!) I heard the phone ring. It rang twice. Which meant I had to tell my arm to give my husband a shove. Which I did. He grunted.

"Jay...hit the speaker button."

"mmmph...wha?"

"SPEAKER BUTTON. HIT IT...please..."

didn't move.

I gave my best huffy sigh and climbed over my very unhelpful husband and whacked the speaker phone button.

Ahhh...Mickey...and Stitch.

I seriously cracked up every morning. I loved hearing Stitch shout "GET MOVING!! NO SLEEPING!!!"

Mostly b/c it brought out the grouchy pants in Sally.

"MissCAMMIEEEEEEE...."

"Whattteeeeee?"

"MissCammie, Stitch is RUDE. And annoying. And I'm MAD at him still for being gross. I don't want him to wake me up. Please."

I gave her my biggest smile and said

"Sorry Sally. Disney rules. Nothing i can do. GOOD MORNING!!! It's Epcot day!!!"

she gave a little grumble and went back under the covers.

my my, the Campbellscots were not shaking their tail feathers very quickly this morning!

I heard a little giggle coming from the bottom bunk.

"Now where on EARTH did Teddy go? I thought he was in the bottom bunk of his Disney bed...but I don't see him..."

Teddy sat up quickly and meant to shout "HERE I AM!!!"

But what happened was he sat up and cracked his little head on the VERY low clearance of the bed above him. OUCH!

When TEddy hurts himself it is just the saddest thing. He doesn't make any noise. His eyes just get huge and his little lip pops out and the huge tears start to fall. It's really cute.

I grabbed him off of the bed and plonked him down on top of his sleeping father. For the funny factor. He smacked himself pretty hard, but was okay.

But getting smacked in the head hurts. So teddy was sad.

"MissCammie OUCH! That r-r-really h-h-urt my HEAD"

"I'm sorry buddy. Can I fix it?"

"Yes...will you kiss my owie?"

OF COURSE!

"Will you sing to it?"

:lmao:

I had once told Teddy that singing to owies helped them to feel better. Ever since then he requests a song with every bump and scrape. Luckily for him I have no problem singing...to children and animals.

*ahem*

"What shall I sing?"

He thought for a moment...

"Let it be..."

:lmao: :rotfl2:

This child loves the Beatles. Knows every song.

It was actually a rather appropriate choice...considering that Teddy was feeling a little rumpled in spirit.

My un-caffeinated brain was trying to remember how the song started, when the words began to float towards me from the direction of Sally's bed.

"When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom...let it be..."

Her little brother annoys her, but when he's hurting, she is the first one in line to comfort him.

So we all sang let it be.

Good way to start the day!!!

We finally got Jay moving. We didn't feel the need to match this morning. So after I sunscreened everyone, we got dressed. I put Sally into a darling little t-shirt dress and her purple crocs. Teddy wanted to wear the Mickey and friends shirt that we had gotten for him on our honeymoon last summer. They're pretty easy kids when it comes to clothes. They put on whatever MissCammie lays out for them. Which is good. Because I'm really controlling. And I get anxious if outfits don't look right...

I KNOW! I have problems.

*ahem*

Jay passed outfit inspection and I passed the "Does my eye looked bad" test. We were ready to go!!! I grabbed the camo park bag that was FULL of stuff...and Pal Mickey...did I mention that we had a Pal Mickey? He had a sorcerer outfit on. We like PM. He's fun...even if he is heavy-ish...he satisfies my need to carry around stuffed animals. It helps me not to buy things I don't need...oops...did I get off on a tangent? Sorry...where were we?

Oh yes...On our way!!!

Teddy grabbed my hand and said

"MissCammie I am SO excited for Apricot!!"

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

"Me too buddy!!!"

We thought about grabbing some breakfast at Roaring Fork...but we just weren't feeling it...the kids had munched cheerios and Teddy had a banana...so they were pretty fortified and full for the moment. I was a little apprehensive though, about Jay and I heading to a park without having had breakfast of some sort.

LAST year...on our HONEYMOON...we were in a hurry to get to Animal Kingdom. We'd heard it was a big park and we wanted to give ourselves time to see it all before the heat got brutal. So we were up early, ready to go. We figured we could get breakfast once we got there...we figured wrong. Tusker House wasn't open...Flame Tree BBQ doesn't do breakfast...and as AK novices we didn't know where to go to get some food. As we searched we got hungrier...and GROUCHIER...When Jay is hungry he gets very focused on food finding...which means he walks really fast...faster than I can walk...which forces me to scurry along like a little mouse behind a lion...which I do NOT like...and he doesn't answer questions...b/c he's too busy thinking about food. Long story...sort of long at this point...we got into a big fat fight! I was mad at him for walking too fast (:lmao: )and he was annoyed with me...mostly b/c I was annoyed with him. It was very silly. We were both exhausted and starving and we still sort of laugh about it. But I still didn't want to have a repeat of that day...in any form.

So I asked Jay if he was SURE he wanted to head out without breakfast. I gave him a look that said "REMEMBER LAST TIME?! When you walked too fast and wouldn't even tell me where you thought you were going? Remember that?! And we were officially in the first fight of our marriage? Because we didn't eat breakfast...remember?!" (all that with ONE look...it's a gift...:confused3 ;) )

He gave me a look that said "I know where food is at Epcot...relax babe".

So I relaxed...not so much b/c I believed him, but because I had nutri grain bars in my handy dandy holds everything including marriage saving food stores bag!!! This is one girl who plans ahead!!!

We headed past the Mercantile and the kids had to touch Humphrey's nose for luck! Sally looked longingly at the arcade as we marched past. She was about say something about how much she liked video games when suddenly her bunny nose thing kicked in.

I had a feeling I knew what she was twitching about...

sure enough...there were two people SMOKING on the side of the building...which filled the whole walkway with the smell of smoke. And since this is Sally we are dealing with I was pretty sure that she would recall that at Check In we were advised of the brand spanking new "NO SMOKING" policy at Wilderness Lodge.

I could see it building up in her...she was about to let loose on those rule breakers. She squared those little shoulders, lifted up her head and MARCHED over to where they were sitting.

I tried to intervene...I hadn't had my diet coke yet and I wasn't in the mood to argue about smoking with people who clearly did not care whether it was against policy or not.

Jay saw the situation as well. He did what only Jay can do when it comes to Sally and her need to right wrongs.

He picked her up, threw her over his shoulder and he ran!

:rotfl2:

It didn't sway her a bit though. Nearly upside down over her daddy's shoulder, she kept her eyes on those people and shouted "SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED AT WILDERNESS LODGE!!! It's AGAINST the RULES!!!!"

*sigh*

She's still at that stage in which she is positive that if people are breaking rules, they would surely want to know. And if they were doing it on purpose, God would want SOMEONE to say something.

We're working on appropriate times to "help" others with her knowledge of the rules at any given place.

we're STILL working on it.

today even...just five minutes ago...

*ahem*

By the time Teddy and I made it to the bus stop Sally had wound down some...mostly b/c Jay continued to pick her up and flip her around. Through her giggles she was still insisting that those PEOPLE should NOT be smoking.

I sincerely hoped those people would NOT be coming down to the bus stop before we left. There would surely be some eye daggers thrown.

My hero Teddy was sing songing "Guess whaa-ut I FOUND!!!"

He had FOUND MissCammie a diet coke machine!!!

:cool1:

blessed child is he.

Jay handed him quarters so he could "work it".

Sally was right over his shoulder making sure Teddy didn't SHAKE the diet coke.

Once Teddy got it out of the machine he passed the bottle on to Sally.

He wasn't ready for the carry and hand off yet. It was a crucial moment in the Diet Coke delivery process.

Oh lord I love these children. They take the Diet Coke thing SO seriously. I wonder who on EARTH gave them the idea that not shaking soda was so important...

*ahem*

I had managed one swallow when the bus pulled up!!

The "Apricot" bus had arrived!!!

:cool1:

Up next: Soarin and Festive Beverage stops!!!!

Another great installment. So did you take copious notes during the trip or do you just have a fabulous memory for detail?

I just love Sally. I think I have an inner Sally myself. Besides smoking is GROSS!

Sending some pixie dust :wizard: to Sally and Teddy in hopes that this Holiday season is not too stressfull for them.

I've loved reading your reports and will hang on as long as it takes for you to write them. popcorn::

Great chapter, MissCammie!

Love the rule obeying Sally. And yay for teddy finding you a coke machine in your time of need! :thumbsup2

Wishing for Pixie dust for you during the stressful holidays!! pixiedust:

Poor Sally! I was surprised when we were there earlier this month that most of the designated smoking areas at WL were by doors (with the exception of the one by the pool). It was rather amusing hearing the word exchanges between the smokers who really were in the designated smoking area and the people that had to walk by them to get into the buildings! ;)

I saw so many Pal Mickey's this last trip, now I'm thinking about getting one on our next trip!

Another wonderful chapter, Miss Cammie. I am amazed that you can capture the voices of those children so beautifully through your words...I feel like I could pick them out of a crowd just by listening. Amazing.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. May peace be yours.
:goodvibes

Why, oh why did I start reading this TR? I have stuff to do today, important stuff. I love your style, both written and personal. Every child should be forced to have such a 'wicked' parent. I do not believe in steps/halves and such. If you do the job you deserve the title and from the sound of it you do more than your 'job' and enjoy it to boot! :cheer2:

I shall do a chore and then reward myself with a chapter and hopefully I will be able to complete it in time to get a couple of hours of sleep tonight. :rotfl:

Slightly Goofy

They probably have a better substitute for chocolate milk nowadays but I used to give my lactose intolerant son Nestle Quik flavored non dairy creamer. Continued eating and drinking dairy products with Celiac disease can cause cancer further down the road, or at least that is what they said way back when. Things change and I could be wrong now though. Kids, and adults, always want what they should not have. It is the nature of the beast. lol

I finally finished reading this TR. I am so looking forward to more, much more!! I love your family. You all just have so much fun and do it with such style and panache. :thumbsup2

I have not watched soap operas in decades now but from my memory every time a female character started feeling a bit queezy there was soon a new addition to the family. Just a thought. You might be just extremely sensitive or someone slipped you an "all shook up" soda. :rolleyes1
