A couple very minor BCV gripes

(1) During our recent stay, there was no DVD controller in our room. This was not discovered until I attempted to play a DVD, only to spend 15 minutes looking at the screen asking us to choose the fullscreen or widescreen version, while waiting for housekeeping to bring us a controller. It was frustrating because if we could have just made that selection, the DVD would have run without further need for a controller, but there was no way to make that selection without one!

It's likely the missing controller was just an oversight, but it's possible they just don't bother to provide a controller until someone asks, possibly because they no longer have enough to go around. Has anyone else had this experience?

(2) For the second year in a row, the first time we used the dishwasher we were unable to load dishwasher soap in the lock-box. It refused to lock, because the washer had completed its cycle the last time it was used (or so it said). As before there was no problem after the first wash. I'm not sure what causes this problem, but if you have a habit of interrupting the dishwasher before it completes its cycle, please don't! It makes it difficult for the next occupant.

Like I said, minor!

Our diswasher does that at home sometimes. I just keep spinning the dial until it unlocks the soap holder and allows it to be relocked.

Generally, I suspect this sort of thing happens because a previous occupant "misplaces" the remote. I wouldn't expect that sort of thing, especially in a timeshare, but sometimes people are unpredictable.

For some reason, our BWV 1 bedroom had the DVD/VCR remote control in the bedroom and the regular one in the living room. I went to use the VCR and couldn't figure it out. I later looked at the one in the bedroom and realized they were switched. I was able to use it with no problem after that. These new DVD/VCR's are great! I was able to record Survivor while we were out and watched it when we returned later that night (I brought a blank tape to record the DVC channel for when I need a DVC fix :earsgirl: ).

I haven't seen these DVD players yet. Don't these players have any controls on them in case you lose the remote.

No, the DVD players at BCV have only three or four buttons on them and none of them affect DVD menus. Believe me I tried!

Mostly likely, the housekeeping staff stops the dishwasher during the drying cycle to unload clean dishes for the next occupant.

When we checked into our 2BR at BCV in October, there was only one remote in the whole place. A quick call to housekeeping took care of that in short order.

This has been the case for us in every DVC we have stayed in. The first time I've used the dishwasher, I have to fight to get the soap box to close. I never thought about the fact that it might be due to an interrupted cycle, but that makes sense.

I forget which resort we were in -- I *think* VWL -- but at check-in, I accidentally walked off with the CM's pen (not the usual cheapie BIC -- seemed like a nice one). Whn I realized it, I took it back and joked that they would have to keep their eyes on me, especially if towels came up short, or, like maybe a TV, for that matter? The CM laughed and said, "Yes, or pehaps just the remote controls! We lose so many of those, and I can't understand it. As if the remote would work on the person's TV or VCR at home?"

Go figure.

LOL! Reminds me of the Russian soldiers in Germany at the end of WWII who would unscrew light bulbs and carefully pack them away, believing they would work back home (with no electricity). I guess this is the modern equivalent.

I may have the answer to the dishwasher mystery. I had this problem at my last apartment and somewhere on the dishwasher there was a warning (or reminder) that the soap container will not lock if it is stopped in the dry cycle. All you have to do is turn the dial to the Off/Start position. Well-Ah! This has worked in my new townhouse as well.

I don't use a heated drying cycle so I often open it beofre it's done to let them air dry.

Hopefully this helps!
