a couple of things about TIW card

We are DVC members who just purchased and used a TIW card for the first time over Christmas. I had a couple of hiccups with it that I thought I would share. Mostly "user error" but it might help others.

1. I intended to purchase it at the guest services window outside of MK on day 1 when we arrived early for RD. I brought my ID and DVC member card but was told that they couldn't charge it to my magic band--I had to have a credit card, which I didn't bring. They said to go to Guest Relations inside the park and I could use the magic band. I didn't want to miss RD so I waited until afternoon when we were leaving MK...big mistake. The line was huge and we didn't have time to wait because we had a dinner ADR at Ohana.

2. I ended up purchasing the card on day 2 at HS where a nice CM told me that I could get a refund for the 20% off that I had missed on our dinner at Ohana if I showed my Ohana receipt to any Guest Relations. She made a note in the computer and gave me a reference number and I easily got the credit at GR at Disney Springs a couple of days later.

3. The Top of the World Lounge isn't listed as taking TIW but the waitress told us that they do. Always take it and ask because you never know.

4. On our 2nd MK day we had breakfast at CP and I forgot the card. I had taken a pic of it on my phone, and I showed the waiter. I actually didn't have my ID either (really messed up that day!) but my husband had his ID showing the same last name. The manager ended up giving us the discount which was great!

Exact same thing happened to me at the exact same place. They ended up phoning my resort and let the charge go through on my MB.

The CM who helped me at HS (inside the park) also thought it was strange that they wouldn't take my magic band as payment.

I believe that TOTWL is not listed on the TiW website because the lounge is not open to the general pubic.

Good point. They have always given the discount on valid days.

Another cautionary tale: Check the expiration date in your card! I bought mine in January 2016, and it had an expiration date of 2/29/16! Of course, my card was rejected when I tried to use it last July...

The problem was easily fixed at Epcot GS the next day. They thought the error had something to do with the computer not understanding leap year. But I learned my lesson to check the date from now on!
