A couple of rumors.

Just to add another rumor from another wdw fan site, Imagineering is taking over the old airstrip near TTC (until 2009) as a staging area for a building project in the area (possibly CR).

This is true as if you drive by you can see the bulldozers, etc, they have stored back there. Very exciting!

I saw a lot of 'stuff' on what I thought I had idenitified as the airstrip when we where there in Feb.

I can trust anything Dean has to say after watching these boards for so many years.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Remember I prefaced this as a rumor and even though the source is reliable, it is second hand.

I believe that if CR was to become a reality, you would be talking 4-5 yrs before construction and all legal issues would be completed. In that amount of time, $ cost will increase. As you stated, OKW was an option on the resale market (good choice) and you could always use your OKW points to reserve at CR. Waiting would possibly lose 4-5 yrs of value, plus if you are one of many people that visit WDW on a regular basis, your cost of staying on site or off site for these years could have been better used in your initial investment. Just my opinion.

Great thoughts! I've thought about that too, but was wondering something else. I've read that in the future there are going to be many, many more DVC members and the availability at "non-home" resorts could be compromised.

I was wondering if anyone had opinions on this. While OKW would be my choice for resale, I'd like to have the longer contracts on a newer DVC property. I realize that the price is going to go up and it will take many years if (or ever) a monorail DVC would become available...but wouldn't the cost of the other resorts come down since the years are disappearing on the older properties as well?

I have gone back and forth so many times it makes my head spin. And yes, we do Disney every single year without fail so I think DVC is a must do for us at some point anyway. I just don't want to finance a timeshare (have heard it's not the best thing to do) and to buy the amount of points we want on the resale market is just not in the near future.

Thanks for any input.

I own at OKW so this obviously isn't a slam on that resort but I can hardly imagine paying slightly below the selling price for SSR for a resale (whatever the resort) when your ownership expires in a significantly lessened time frame.

For your home resort, you are only competing against other members there until 7 months out so the number of total members means nothing. As such, certain times of the year and unit types will be an issue subject to the demand at that resort from the owners there. There are ways to give yourself the best chance of success. The problem will be trying to stay at high demand resorts, units, times of the year at or after the 7 month window. IMO, this has already gotten tougher and will even more in the future. Still, there are ways to increase your chances of success there as well. Down the line it all depends on how many units are built and the desirability of those resorts. More destination resorts like CR or AKL will lighten the load just a little. More resorts with slightly less demand like SSR, OKW, VB and HH will make it worse. The problem is that those second type of resorts tend to be large and offset the balance.

We saw all the heavy duty equipment parked at the airstrip last week too, and we joked that they must be starting a new park!
