Hi

We'll be on the Dining Plan (standard) but I'm wondering about CS meals.

The Dining plan brochure states that, for lunch and dinner, you can get 1 entrée, 1 dessert and 1 non alcoholic beverage.
I've seen lots of reports according to which you could substitute the beverage for another dessert, or substitute the dessert for another beverage, as long as you had 1 entrée and 2 other items.
Is this info correct ? and if so, is that standard procedure, or just hit or miss depending on the CM at the register ?
The case is that, while at our resort (POR) a beverage would be of little value as we have the reffilable mug anyway. And even a bottled beverage is of little to no value as we already will have a large pack of bottled spring water.

But a second dessert sure sound more interesting for that sweet tooth of mine :)

And next, what does qualify as a dessert ?
it's my first time on the dining plan and I'm a bit confused. The only dessert we ever had were either as part of a combo meal, or in the "market" place at the resorts.
I can think of POP right now, where there is a fairly large selection of cakes and other dessert items, but how does it work ... is the selection limited ? or ... well, please help :)

I wouldn't count on substitutions. You can ask, but it will be very hit or miss. We don't eat at the resort often, but we usually got a bottle of OJ for the kids for breakfast the next morning or a water for later. Do you really need the case of water? You can get free water at all CS places, or get it with meals, or use a snack credit.
You can choose Any dessert available! There is NOT a limited selection for DDP users.:thumbsup2

We've done a DDP 9 times now. I've never heard of switching a beverage for a dessert. CS Desserts are typically more than beverages (about $4 vs. under $3) so I don't see them allowing that. It's possible they'll let you do the opposite, but again, I've never done it.

With the refillable mugs what we do is get a bottled beverage (there are many to choose from-juice, teas, milk, soda, water, etc.) and drink it later. You can even carry it into a park if you want. Your refillable mugs aren't refillable outside your resort. We find the milk and juice good options for our in-room breakfasts.

Besides the standard desserts-cakes, cookies, cupcakes, muffins, turnovers, ice cream, etc. you can also get fresh fruit as your dessert option.

I doubt you'll be able to do the substitution, but it never hurts to ask.

When we eat at the resort food court and are using our refillable mugs, I usually get an orange juice for the next morning....The kids get a milk to go with their cereal (that we bring with us) - and both are kept in the frig and used for breakfast the next morning.

1. I've seen lots of reports according to which you could substitute the beverage for another dessert, or substitute the dessert for another beverage, as long as you had 1 entrée and 2 other items.
Is this info correct ? and if so,

2. is that standard procedure, or just hit or miss depending on the CM at the register ?

1. People are often able to replace the dessert with a bottled water, but I haven't heard of people getting a second dessert instead of a beverage. Since the refillable mugs can only be refilled at your resort, the bottled water comes in handy to bring into the park. Subbing a bottled water at the park CS is pretty popular because overall the dessert choices there are more limited. In many places there are only 2 choices. However, ask because you never know.

2. Subbing an extra drink isn't a SOP, so I would check with the cashier before doing it.

3. Again, ask the cashier or CMs at the food court about what items are considered dessert. Sometimes the options will surprise you. For example, at some food courts you can get ice cream. The cashier will stamp your receipt if you choose the ice cream and you'll have a specified amount of time (usually about 1 hour) to get it which is nice because then you won't have melted ice cream. :) Also, if you have children with you, they have to order their entire meal from the children's menu. Their desserts are listed as among the choices of "sides" they can pick from.
