A Couple of Chef Mickey's Questions

Hi everyone!

As a surprise to my girls, DH and I want to take them to Chef Mickey's for breakfast. My DD, Emily, (age 4) has seen it on the Unwrapped :WDW show from the Food Network and she really, really wants to go. So, here are my questions:

1. When is the best time to go? Is there a time when it is not as crowded?

2. How will we get there? We are staying off property and plan on heading to the Magic Kingdom right after.

3. Do the kids really get to make their own desserts? On the Unwrapped show, they talk about parents allowing kids to "play with their food" after the Chef Mickey's segment. I"m trying to figure out if the kids get to make those cool desserts they show.

Any other information/advice that you have is much appreciated! Thank you!

You used to be able to drive there, and with Chef Mickey reservations just park at the contemporary and then walk across the street/take the monorail to Magic Kingdom. That may have changed now, if that's the case park at the same place you park for Magic Kingdom and take the monorail to the contemporary

You can drive there still. We were there in August 2004. You do have to drive thru the gate entrance to the MK. Just tell the booth attendant that you have PS at Chef Mickeys. They will let you go w/0 charging you the parking rate for MK.

When you get to contemporary, tell the booth gaurd that you have PS @ chef mickey's. He will take your Id and write down stuff on a clipboard. You will get a visitor parking permit that is good for 3 hours.

If you want the most character interaction, get a very late PS.

First you're going to have to decide if you want breakfast or dinner. Sounds like breakfast. If that's the case, I don't remember if they have any type of 'dessert' station like at dinner. As far as when it might be less crowded...I don't think there is such a time! We've been at all different times of the year, days of the week and it hasn't made much difference. You will have to book it at the 90 day mark tho. Most times I've seen 'walk-ups' have to wait an hour or so to be seated.

If you are staying off-site, your best bet for parking will be the main parking lot for the TTC. Then take the monorail to the Contemporary. Then, after you eat, just walk over to MK.

We love Chef Mickeys a lot. My dd, 11, loves it too. We always eat there once for each trip. It's crazy hectic, loud and frantic in there...but that's part of the 'scene' I think. So, call and make those PS's for the time/date/meal you want. Have a terrific time.

It used to be that the desserts were just at dinner. We haven't been there in a few years, but used to go 2-3 times during each visit. For breakfast, we always tried to get there when they 1st opened, and we were always out before the crowd.

If you go for breakfast, one of the last seatings is best as the restaurant tends to empty out and there is more quality time with the characters. Have a quick "light snack" as breakfast and then use the breakfast at CM as lunch. They seat until 11:30 and do not break the buffet until the last guest leaves.

This way you could be at MK at rope drop and have over two hours in the park. Then take the resort monorail one stop to the Contemporary and CM is very close to the monorail exit.

I beleive the "do it yourself" dessert bar is at dinner, not breakfast.
