I am a DIS posting newbie but I have been a thread lurker on and off for the past two years. (Part of the reason I haven't registered before is that we don't have the internet at home :scared1: so I have to troll at work. Anyway, that is neither here nor there) So forgive me if this question has been answered a million times.

Okay. I am wondering what things we can do as adults to add some magic to our stay? My DH and I are planning an off-site trip to Disney in Sept 2008. (read= I am planning a trip to Disney and my DH is tagging along) I have been to Disney several times as an adult with my family and this is his first time to Disney as an adult. I've always had an absolute blast everytime I've gone. This will be our first couple trip to Disney and I want his experience to be a positive one. We aren't really big on going out and partying it up but we still might check out Pleasure Island.

Also, all the things that I have read about couples in Disney requires a lot of money. For our splurge at Disney I am planning on doing the Segway Around the World tour so we don't have a lot extra to spend. DH doesn't like the spa and we can't really afford a big nice meal at a really nice restaurant. We plan on checking out some of the Deluxe resorts but what other activities are there for couples?

I'd appreciate any suggestions you can give me. Thanks!

Believe it or not my DH actually enjoyed going to "tea" with me at the Grand Floridian. We've also had fun renting the small boats. We've done it at Wilderness Lodge, the Poly, and Boardwalk.

Thanks jx3smom. I don't really enjoy tea but I do like the Grand Floridian. Do you know how much it is to rent a small boat?

As you said you aren't really in to partying Ragland Road might be right up your street. Its in Pleasure Island but its a pub rather than a club. They have an Irish band in there Fri/Sat I believe and an Irish dancer and its a lovely atmosphere. You can either just go in and sit at the bar for some drinks (there are two bars one on left and one on right as well as some bar stools around the middle area) or go and have a meal and sit at one of the tables. Its a lot of fun

Well it does cost a bit of money but there is the option of going for Afternoon tea? I believe its $18 each for a choice of tea (unlimited) sandwiches scone pastry and strawberrys and cream. Its really nice

Boats I believe are around $30 for 30 mins or something like that

For free you can do the boat trip from POR to Downtown Disney thats a lot of fun

Looking around the hotels is a definate must. Also some hotels do Hidden Mickey hunts that are free from the front desk. Animal Kingdom Lodge and Wilderness Lodge definately do. Animal Kingdom Lodge also has a culinary tour thats free. When I was there it was at 4pm each afternoon but I would ask at reception (lie and say youve lost the welcome sheet that said when the tour thingies were). Animal Kingdom lodge is also a good one to visit due to going to see the animals around the resort.

Thanks gismo1554! Ragland Road sounds perfect for us. We are definitely pub people! I had forgotten that it was there.

Touring the hotels is also something that we would like to do. We are not spending a lot of money this time around because he isn't totally into the trip. I hope that by seeing what Disney has to offer (especially for hotels) he will catch the Disney bug! <cross fingers>

For our honeymoon we went on a Disney cruise and he liked it but wasn't wowed. Part of the problem was that we were so exhausted from the months of planning and lack of sleep that we didn't do most of what the ship had to offer. I was really bummed when we slept through the character breakfast. Grrr. I feel like I really need to make this trip count!

Dex,

My wife and I are doing disney/orlando alone for a week in 10 days. I kind of posted the same question as you.

If we find anything special to do, i'll be sure to post when we get back. I think we are going to try more of the "adult" things on this trip (Jellyrolls, PI, comedy clubs, etc.) That way we can sleep in and enjoy our resort a bit during the day and head out at night.

Go Vikes!! :rotfl2: Haaa

Hey.. If you are going to PI.. go to the Comedy Warehouse.. AND the Adventurer's club.. LOVE that place.. again.. its not a nightclub.. but a comedy club of sorts.. there is lots to see and sit and relax w/a drink.. have a lot of chuckles.

We are leaving tomorrow am for Disney.. its my 35th bday weekend.. and we are going to the Adventurer's club tomorrow night.. I just cant wait!!!

How old are ya'll??? The Adventurer's Club is really neat, but it will cost you 20 each to get in...however...that includes ALL the Clubs on PI.

A FREE thang to do is to be on the Poly's beach for fireworks...it is romantic, altho I wouldn't go in dress clothes after dinner...make sure you don't mind a little sand. There are hammocks for 2 and bench swings.

Just a thought.

Have a Magical Trip...he'll become Disneyfied!

check the prices (especially with any discount - look on mousesavers) at Pop Century.

It has both an outside bar (pool) and inside lounge. It can be a fun place - especially the pool bar.

---

now what do you and he like to do - go for long walks - then go visit POR before sunset - walk around it and POFQ until after sunset. then go back to POR to their lounge and watch the entertainment (I think it is still Wed-sun?)

---

as wdwtheplacetobe - says - walk along the Polyn beach to the GF - just walking around the Polyn at night when it is lite by the torches is pretty romantic.

--

go visit the WL - just to see that lobby - you won't believe you are in Florida.

Same can be say of the AKL.

bw - go walk along the bw - it has some things to do that don't cost alot. but be carefully - little things can add up. just walking is free.

Mid 30's for us....hopefully we won't be too old for PI!!!

And thanks for the beach idea...we might just give that a shot....

9 days and counting!!!

We're in early 40's and Adventurer's Club is the Place to Be!!!

We stay out of the teeny-bopper clubs, but AC and the Comedy Club are entertaining.

AC is a unique Disney experience--the premise is that you have entered a Adventurer's Club in the 1930's. It has a Club President, Curator, Butler, Maid, A couple of Dashing Adventurers...etc. The Pre-show includes the Mask room and the Rare Artifacts room. It is Disney for Adult Humor (but still fairly clean)

JUST CHERISH THE TIME SPENT TOGETHER!!!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

We go to WDW about once a year now - just DH & I (no kids). We are late 30's/early 40's and still enjoy PI. We don't stay until 2am anymore, but we LOVE the Comedy Club and Adventurers Club. We also enjoy strolling around the boardwalk and DTD at night.

We also try to do a different character breakfast each year. We have no issues with being two adults at a character breakfast and you see other adults with no kids there. It makes you feel like a kid again and the characters come over and greet you too. DH had a ball getting his picture taken with all of the princesses at CRT! If you time it right, you can have one of the later ADR's and it will really be a breakfast/lunch, and you can get more for your money. I can't recall how much they are...some vary, but I think they may be around $20 ea before taxes & tip and most are buffets and you get a lot to eat. We spend atleast that for breakfast and lunch counter service!

This trip I'm hoping to catch the Electrical Water Pagent on the 7 Seas Lagoon. It is my understanding it goes by each of the MK Resorts and you can sit out and watch it. I have wanted to do this for the past trips, but just never got to it.

Another idea is to visist the AKL and going to one of the general viewing areas to see the animals. Generally first thing in the morning or around dusk is the best, as they come out to feed then (they place their food in hidden areas near the viewing areas). We had the luxury of staying at the AKL a couple of times (for just a few days) and had a Savannah view. There was nothing more peaceful than sitting on the balcony with my coffee in the morning and just watching the animals. And the AKL itself is just a gorgeous place and I think they have cultural guides that can take you around or tell you many things about the South African art thru out the lobby. And although we never did it, I think there's even a "story" hour by the firepit where the cultural guides tell storys about their homelands. We just loved it, and it wouldn't cost you a thing.

Our best "couple stuff" is all free. We burst into spontaneous dancing when walking through areas with music. We have a kissing game with all sorts of silly rules about what constitutes a "kissing place" (and we stack the deck in our favor) so there are lots of random moments of affection. For us the joy of being a couple at Disney is not about special extra activities, it's just about being at Disney and together.

Completely forgot about Jellyrolls. I think you pay to get in there after 7pm and its at the boardwalk but its really fun. They have 2 pianists who sing and they take requests from the audience and its like a big sing song. Its fantastic! Definate must!

now what do you and he like to do - go for long walks - then go visit POR before sunset - walk around it and POFQ until after sunset. then go back to POR to their lounge and watch the entertainment (I think it is still Wed-sun?)

POFQ also has a comedy bloke but hes not as good as POR. I think the POFQ and POR entertainers are both Wed-Sun.

as wdwtheplacetobe - says - walk along the Polyn beach to the GF - just walking around the Polyn at night when it is lite by the torches is pretty romantic.

And dont forget you can watch the fireworks from there and see the electric water pagent which I believe is on about 9pm

Sorry I haven't gotten back to everyone, I've been sick! :sad1: Thank you everyone for all the great suggestions! We are in our late 20s so age restricted activities aren't a problem for us (well, unless you are talking about Pooh's play area. Then we are too old. Bummer.)

The more I hear about PI the more excited I get! I was slightly skeptical at first. I had heard mainly about the clubs and as I said before, we aren't huge party people. We like to have a good time and stay out later but I find that body shots just don't do it for me anymore :goodvibes The Adventurer's Club and Comedy Club sound like a riot!

We will definitely go to AKL and I really like the suggestion of walking from the Poly to the GF on the beach. I was planning on walking down the BW just because it is a nice atmosphere. I want DH to understand that Disney isn't just about the rides. It's the whole experience. I know that he generally gets the idea because I have taught him better but he is bombarded by a lot of anti-Disney sentiment out there. "No, it's not just for kids. No, we are not bringing kids. No, there is more to Disney than IASW. Yes, I've been there before. Yes, actually I did have a good time. Of course when you see Mickey you give him a hug, you are in his house. No, I am not CRAZY." Okay, whew. Had to get that off my chest.

Now I am batting around the idea of going to US. I have been to IOA but not US and I was wondering if it would help him to get away from Disney and get some perspective. I can get some cheap tickets and I was wondering if it would be worth it. I would like to try the Mummy ride but other than that I am wondering if we should bother. DH has pretty much given me carte blanche and he says that he'll do whatever I say. He may live to regret that...

Im not a big ride person (hate most Thrill rides) but I find that I can go on every ride in US other than the Mummy. I think its fun and everything is a bit less kiddie orientated. Shrek 3D is the most fantastic thing in the world. Its not like the 3D movies at Disney you really feel like you are part of it and I love that! Also the behind the scenes stuff is fantastic!

You could eat a nice dinner at Coral Reef and arrange for a diver to bring a sign that says something like "Our first couple trip". The divers are free you just have to arrange it ahead of time.

Wow! I had no idea you could ask a diver to hold a sign for you! That's awesome. Disney just does it right. (sigh) Our trip is too far away! It does give me time to savor the planning, though.

I think we should go to Universal. Just to shake things up a bit. Yay! More things to research!

One of the things that my DH and I did the last time we went to WDW (Nov 07) We rode the monorail around the magic kingdom and stopped at each resort to just look around. We had fun with the cast members just wanted to look around. We at at Ohana with No reservation. It was a really good time.

I enjoyed traveling around to the other resorts to see how they are decorated and at AKL we watched the animals.

Just wander around and enjoy everything!

One thing DF and I really enjoyed doing was watching the sunset from a hammock at Caribbean Beach Resort. It was so soothing and relaxing. :goodvibes

Also, 'Ohana at the Polynesian has a really pretty Hawaiian performer who sings, dances and plays the Ukalele with the kids. She invites any adults who want to join and she also did a love song for couples to slow dance to. So much fun!
