My DH doesn't like the pre-frozen hamburger patties you get in a box. How do I make my own patties -- do I add stuff, do I make them in advance and freeze them, can I cook them frozen? Thanks (I hate to cook).

When I make them in advance I don't add anything. Yes, you can cook them frozen but you will have to cook them much slower so they cook evenly.

I like to pat them out then put waxed paper between them, then put in a ziploc bag for freezer storage. If the waxed paper is folded in half it will make them easier to seperate when taking out of the freezer.

When I make them, (it's very rare that I do), I just use hamburger and mix in egg and italian breadcrumbs, sometimes chopped onion. I'm pretty sure you can freeze them(although I never have but I know people who do).

Hope this helps.

You can make them yourself, just form them out of chopped meat and freeze them. they're better if you defrost them before cooking. there are a lot of good recipes out there for thing syou can mix into the meat if you want to, but it isn't necessary.

I mix Teriyaki sauce, egg, chopped onion, and Wrocestershire Sauce if no Teriyaki.

I don't add anything to the ground beef. They'd taste like meatballs with eggs and breadcrumbs in them.

I have a device that was my mother's to make burger patti's. You fill it with ground beef, then twist its handle, and voila! perfect patti.

I wrap them individually in plastic wrap, then foil, and freeze them.

If you can't find a patti-making device or don't want to be bothered, you can buy them pre-formed from the meat case at the supermarket. The price per pound, though, is usually at 50 cents more. I don't think it's worth paying that.

Yes, you can cook them frozen. I move them from the freezer to the refrigerator a half-hour or so before I'm going to cook--so the seasonings stick.

I season them with salt and pepper or McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning on both sides before cooking.

A tip--cook the first side until the top side becomes covered with blood, then flip it (once). Cook until the other side looks equally browned.

We don't do anything special to soup them up and we never freeze them. I think freezing makes meats drier and changes the texture too much. We buy fresh ground sirloin the night that we plan to have burgers and just patty them out. Top them with a little salt & pepper, and throw them on the grill for 16 minutes, turning them every four minutes. They're great. :D

We don't add stuff to them either, that makes them taste like meatloaf or meatballs.

Hamburgers are just ground beef formed into patty shapes. Remember that depending upon the fat content, they will shrink, so plan accordingly to fit your buns.

You can mix a bit of seasoning or something into it if you want, but we usually just salt and pepper it before grilling them, and everyone can add whatever sauce they want when they make theirs.

You can form them ahead of time, wrap securely, and freeze if you want, too.

Don't freeze. Just buy fresh ground chuck, mix with some salt, pepper, garlic powder, finely minced onion, and worchestershire sauce. You can also add brown sugar. Then grill.

Or another one I like is mix the ground beef with lipton's onion soup mix and some worchestershire sauce. YUMMY!

I don't like freezing my patties, they tend to be too dry.

I usually mix in some minced onion, garlic powder and and seasoned salt. I couldn't tell you how much, I just guess. Maybe a couple of teaspoons per pound.
