Ok, ya'll wanted to debate on the teen board. Here's a topic that is about Disney, and should be kept clean and unpersonal.Since I'm on the debate team I'll post it as it would appear at tournament.

Resolved: Disney movies with people are better then Disney movies with cartoons.

Now if ya'll want to debate ya'll can do so about this.

The problem is that I need to be passionate about the subject. If I ever become passionate about Angels in the Outfield, my life is officially over.

I think that the disney magic is more there in the cartoons. That is what mickey was AND will always be.

i didn't post until now too cause i'm not so very passionate on the subject.

but to make my reply have a purpose, here's my opinion. neither is better than the other there will always be good and bad of each.

I think that all the best Disney films are the animated ones before Walt died.
Compare Snow White or the Jungle Book to Pocahontas or Hercules, and the earlier ones are just so much better. Better songs, better characters, and just generally better. The voices were better then too, compare Mary Costa's opera singing with Jodi Benson's broadway type voice. No contest. And Walt's films never had some awful direct to video sequel to ruin the whole image of the original (although Eisner's sadly changing this). Today's Disney films are all trying to be modern, and its not working. Will Emperor's New Groove be a true Disney classic? No way, but 64 years later, Snow White is till as popular as it always was.
Just my opinion, I still love them all :D

I love watching Disney movies of any kind! But I'd have to say that I like the animated films better than the ones with real actors. When they're animated, it makes everything seem more magical, like anything is possible! With all the new technology today and special effects, the films with real actors are getting much better. But Disney started with animation, Mickey for example,so I'm sticking with that, and that's my opinion on this subject.

:smooth:

As long as they're good, I'll watch ither cartoon or real, but lately, the cartoon movies really.........suck.

I just saw Shrek, and I thought that it was absolutely incredible!!! Everything about it was so much better than any of the recent Disney films (and most of the old ones). What does anyone else think? Did Dreamworks finally manage to copy the Disney magic?
I'm hoping that the success of Shrek is going to be a shock to Disney, and cause them to actually start making good films again.
Has anyone here seen Atlantis? Was it any good?

I agree Pigsolider! The disney refrences were so funny! I loved the IASM part. "wipe your.........face!" Atlantis was amazing, it was a disney movie for older kids like us, i highly recommend it:D

Well I think it would depend on witch movie yall are tallking about because some movies with cartoons in it I don't like but it is the same way with people in the movie! :earsgirl: :sunny:

I also liked Shrek, but the part that made me think was when he was wrestling those other guard guys. I mean, you don't usually see 700 = pounds things throwing dropkicks.

Well, one of my favorite movies is Disney, of course, and it's one with real people...Remember The Titans. Buth then again there is NOTHING like old Disney cartoon movies. If I had to choose I'd say with real people.

I like both live-action and animated Disney films, but usually, I prefer things with real people in them. More emotion can be shown and the films etc. seem more real. On the other hand, nothing will ever compare to the Disney animated classics because when I was little, they WERE Disney!

I personally dislike the very early Disney films like Snow White, Cinderella etc. because the way in which the characters are portrayed is totally different from today.

e.g. I would not want to be compared to snow white. No offense to Snow White or the film but she IS a bit silly, girly, wimpish and totally dependent on others. However, the film was made a while ago and She's not really what I would call a role model of todays' women! All she does is daydream and sing etc. and she acheives nothing from her own work. We talked about this in Media class at school and quite frankly she is a rather poor representative for the females of the world.

I agree that Snow White is a terrible role model, but this was one of the things which made the film so good. There weren't any morals, it was a simple love story about a prince and a princess, which was what made it so good.
When Disney animators tried to change this, and make the women less passive, we got Jasmine, a spoilt brat, and Megara, who spent most of the film making 'witty' comments. I don't think that Jasmine running away from home, and Meg deceiving Hercules to get her freedom makes them any any better role models than Snow White or Cinderella.

I saw Atlantis last week, because the girl I was with wanted to see it. I have yet to see a Disney movie I didn't like, even though I though Hunchback was mediocre. I can honestly say I did not like Atlantis. Yes, the animation was the best out of any Disney movie, but the story and the plot was really boring and confusing, even for a 17 year old. I didnt care about any of the characters, and there was nearly zero humor. Big dissappointment, and I almost fell asleep.
And a quick note about the Disney classics. Yes, despite the fact that I love Emperor's New Groove, it won't be considered a classic. But you shouldn't dismiss all of the new Disney movies. Look at how well Beauty and the Beast and the Lion King and Aladdin and Toy Story have fared. Sure, youre going to get a few Mulans or Pocahontases or Emperors, but there were some Disney animation flops back in their day, like how Fantasia was a total bust among others that are rarely heard about.
And Jasmine wasn't spoiled at all, she just wasn't allowed to leave the castle and wanted to rebel. And Meg was irritating. But also, Disney has made many great strong female characters such as Mulan or Pocahontas, so don't just point out the negatives.
I talk too much.

Ok, I'm going to state my view. I for one love both types of Disney movies, but! I think that other then "the Emperor's new groove" I haven't liked any of the new Disney Cartoons. However, Action movies like "Remember The Titans" really catch me attention. You can see the feeling and really get into the movie, but with a cartoon it's nothing to go on but what a cartoonist draws. Now where is the felling in that? How Am suppose to relate to a person who falls a sleep by eating an apple? There is way to much Blah! in that. I mean, I'm not saying movies should be about real life, but at least the girls in them don't hve to be soo weak. And in almost all Disney Catoons the girls are soo weak it makes me sick!

Meg, Jasmine, and Mulan are better role models because they have their own mind, are intelligent and can acheive things without the help of a handsome prince.:p

True, those three are good role modles, but they are only three of hundreds of Disney females. I mean, little girls get to know snow white, and all the girls that have to wait in the Handsom prince to save them. Even Jasmine has to be saved by her prince.
