Day 10 Monday 25th December 2006 Happy Christmas!
Happy Christmas!!
Again, a relaxed day was planned to avoid those heaving parks, with a trip out to the Grand Floridian planned for later. The weather forecast was advising us to stay indoors anyway as tornadoes were forecast. Fortunately it was fine enough to “hot tub” in the morning after admiring all the surprises that Father Christmas had brought our “much older these days” girls!! Being older means a full night’s sleep, yippee! I swear FC has a deal with Disney and gets a good discount though, what with elegant Mickey Mouse Journals, Finding Nemo cushions and very fluffy pens I think he must have, or else free margaritas!!
A Bucks Fizz or three later and we dry ourselves off and remember to take a couple of pictures of our little tree before devouring presents!
We had said the girls were only having little presents, but caved in and got them the mobiles they wanted (older two) and a Nintendo DS Lite (pink of course) The latter we had bought a few days previously at Downtown Virgin Megastore, one of the last five in the Orlando area we were told, and were so lucky that Sally got her present! There followed the obligatory two hours working everything out and reading the manuals (not!) Meantime the palm trees were bending over double and the rain was lashing down, we were glad not to be in a park! We phoned the two sets of Granny and Grandads, it seemed strange to think of the Queen and Sprouts and damp!! We picked at fruit and nibbles for lunch.
We all changed and set off for the Grand Floridian around 4pm. Now this was more Christmassy, with Carols in the foyer sung by a proper choir, lovely decorations and the Gingerbread House. The tree is huge, and the Fotopass photographer took a pic with our camera too, so a bad one of all five of us!!
It was quite an achievement to get this pic as there were so many people swarming around the house
We ambled around a bit before going upstairs and retiring to the lounge for pre dinner drinkies, the children went off to explore, the great thing about this holiday is that they are old enough to let us have some time together and they enjoyed the freedom.
I picked 1900 Park Fare for dinner as I knew we would get proper “roast” and it was nice to be in such grand surroundings on Christmas Day as we were not “parking”. We were rather smug too, as even in the GF there were a lot of very fractious, very wet and very tired people about, mainly adults!! It was a foul day weather wise.
We checked in about 6pm for our 6.30pm ADR We waited, took pics with the Fairy Godmother and waited some more, then it was our turn. We were led right through the restaurant and right out the back to the section that is probably used about 3 times a year when extra busy!! It was nice, and less frantic than the main restaurant. We dived into our food, which was fine but nothing out of this world. The characters were circulating very very very slowly, except the lovely mice who paid our area lots of attention, one of them even eyed up Steve and flashed him her stockings, made his day that did!
After several trips up to the buffet, and stretching our desserts it was now nearly 8pm and Cinderella still hadn’t progressed more than half way down the main hall. Steve wanted to go, but even at an old 10 Sally still wanted to see Cinderella, in the end a very nice CM did manage to get the entourage down our end, there were a lot of people not shouting pushing and distracting her like in the main hall. She had been to some tables three times! It seems far more this visit that shouting and screaming types get what they want, and being patient doesn’t pay. A quick pic with the lady herself!
We enjoyed the surroundings some more and slowly made our way home to relax and have a traditional Christmas evening in front of the box, with chocs and wine! Some traditions just have to be continued.
Tomorrow: Boxing Day Golf and Magic Kingdom and Holiday Parades/ Spectro and Wishes
Day 11 Tues 26th Dec Golf and Magic Kingdom for “Holiday” Parades
