We are staying at GCH next week, and it seems like I read somewhere on this board that there was a trick to keeping the a/c at a good temp. Anyone remember? I'm not finding anything by searching.

Also, it's been a little while since we stayed there. Any other GCH tips/secrets? We know not to use the GCH DCA entrance for rope drop.
Thanks!:)

The AC kicks on when people are moving about in the room. Drives me nuts to wake up sweaty and have to stand up so it kicks back on.

I had heard about this, but when we were there for Dapper Day, it was a meat locker (nice after the heat of the day). No extra steps needed.

There were posts 2 years ago about "new" thermostats with motion sensors (or other auto shutoff), but have not encountered one at GCH or VGC :goodvibes
We set the temperature very low and it stays there.

A couple ways to bypass the thermostat (depending on type):
  1. Press and hold the F/C button on the left side of the thermostat. "BP" will display on the screen.
  2. Hold the temp down button and the system power button simultaneously. "BP" will display on the screen.
(I have not needed to try either method)

Confirming what Nonsuch said, someone posted two months ago that method 1 worked for them, and that you can apparently request that someone from maintenance set your thermostat on bypass.

Thank you! I am printing those directions up just in case we have a problem with the a/c.

Any other newish tips or secrets about GCH?

All the bypass "BP" mode does is disable the motion sensor for 24 hours. There is a tiny motion detector that is on the front of the thermostats that will put it into an energy saving mode if there is no movement in the room. At night BP mode keeps it as cool as possible all night and won't allow it to go into the internal energy saving mode.

There is no "VIP" mode that some hotel thermostats have that allow a cooler than the programmed temperature hack...or at least that we we have not been able to find and I travel with some pretty good hacker types!
