Seriously??? Could anything have dampened my happiness more? Geesh....seller accepted my offer of $57/pt on a 120 pt pkg @ SSR, Sept UY, no 2012 pts. Thought it was a pretty good deal, and then our a/c unit goes out :( Maybe I can get a home equity loan for both - LOL. Trying to see what repair guy says tomorrow so I can send back signed contract or not. I will be so bummed if I can't take this deal .

FWIW, our AC went out two days before leaving on a 10-day trip. Got someone out same day and it ended up being just $200 for part + service call. No biggie.

Hope things work out for you.

Hope everything works out for you, one way or another. Quite frankly, this might work out for you after all...there are much better deals to be had at SSR, especially considering your contract doesn't have any points for the next 13 months. I'm not trying to be rude, just pointing out what might be a silver lining. Good luck. :)

I've had my 15 year old A/C unit go out twice this summer. Both times it was a little less than a $200 repair, so here's hoping the same for your situation. There are lots of electronic parts and control boards that can fail. The repair cost for those is usually pretty reasonable.

I have to agree with ELMC here, but I hope your AC gets fixed without too much expense.

Ours also went out a week before we left for our Disney trip in June. Thankfully, it was also a $200 repair, but our guy told us to expect to have to replace the unit fairly soon. But yeah, we almost canceled our trip in June for the same reason. Good luck.

I know it's an inconvenience but if the finances are so tight that a single item makes it not workable, one has to wonder whether buying DVC (or any luxury purchase) is a good decision. Hopefully it'll work out either way.

These kind of posts bug me and they come up frequently. The OP didn't really ask if they should or should not buy DVC. I am sure the person is an adult and knows more about their own financial siutation.

Them I think you'll have to be bugged. It seems an obvious issue related to the OP. What I did is to raise the issue, not tell anyone what to do. If you think it shouldn't be posted, that's your prerogative, to me it's a very important question, one the OP and anyone else in a similar situation has to answer for themselves.

I understand what you are saying and even why you are saying it, but I disagree. This is a forum dedicated to purchasing DVC and I believe that all aspects of that process are fair game. This forum has often been referred to as a "No Pixie Dust Zone" because we don't sugar coat or blindly offer hollow words of support. We offer critical and (hopefully) well informed opinions with the intention of helping people consider all aspects of a DVC purchase.

Think about it this way...how would you respond to a post that says "Bad news, I just got laid off and I have no income. But the silver lining is that my offer on BWV resale was just accepted!"?

Would you give one of these..

pixiedust: :welcome: pixiedust:

Or would you tell the person to stop and think for a minute about their DVC purchase and how it may turn out? Certainly one response is easier, and will certainly go over better, but how is that helping anyone or contributing to the level of discourse that people have come to expect on these boards? I had reservations about posting what I did in post #3. And who knows, maybe I was out of line. But my opinion was that based on recent contract sales, the contract was overpriced and completely stripped, thus making it a bad deal. Yes, I run the risk of hurting the OP's feelings by suggesting this, but who does it help for me to just say "that's too bad" and nothing else?

In the end, although a few feathers might get ruffled, many posters here try to provide sound advice. If that helps the OP or any of the readers of this board, then that is a good thing. I suspect that on the DVC Mousellaneous board the OP would receive the support and well wishes that you are expecting to see over here.

1)bugged about the suggestion that perhaps this luxury purchase is not smartest thing to do if finances tight.

2) Giving the finance advice to alert the OP that if an AC set back is a monetary hardship, then perhaps this purchase is not the best use of available resources.

I actually agree with both of these points of view...at the end of the day people are going to make decisions that differ from ours and that differ from our perception of what is the "right" or "best" decision. And, those decisions, even though they differ from ours, at the end of the day might end up working for them.

I've been avoiding posting on this thread, but I just have to say...

I don't care WHO you are, replacing your A/C is a financial blow. Period.

Absolutely, they are much more expensive than even just a few years ago. I am not looking forward to the day that my 15+ year old unit needs replacing.

Guess I should have posted on the Mousecellaneous board...sorry. Was just so shocked that the AC problem happened the same day! Was only $106 to get fixed ;) Love the repairman! As far as the contract I bid on, the smaller pkgs at SSR seem to be going fast, and for asking price (100 pts in Sept 2013, nothing banked, sold at $64/pt). I know that a better deal on a 150-160 pt pkg could be found with banked points, etc, but even so, that was out of my financial range right now. This will get us started with DVC, and maybe we will love it so much we will succumb to "addonitus"! Nevertheless, I am excited now that the AC didn't break the bank!

Great news! Hope all goes well on your resale! :cool1:

Great news on your A/C!! I hope all goes smoothly with your DVC purchase.

Great. Welcome home.
