Way to go Kathy!!!!!

Bump

Thanks Brandi!

I am sublimating(?) all my job stress by DISsing.

I found out yesterday that I "cost too much to keep" in my current position and since I am technically a temporary they don't need me again (if at all) until the project starts up for next year.

Tomorrow is my last work day until (if) they find me a job at a much lower rate than my current one. Two days notice is horrid......

That is not a nice notice! Are you going to look for something else?

Yes but it's hard to find anything on quick notice and with as much flexibility as this job provided. Plus I already have plane tickets and plans for about 9 days in May and June.

Technically releasing me is a result of 'sequestration' since our company does a huge amount of federal government contracts. In a different economy I would be kept on regardless of my pay rate because I am so skilled at what I do and know. They're keeping my colleague who is much less skilled but "cheap" to pay.

But I have been through situations like this before in life (three times).

It gives you enough time to enjoy your trip. Unfortunately in today's economy they want cheap labor.:furious:

I hope something comes along for you.

I too have been through it and does not make it any easier.

Do you qualify for a severance package?

No package per se but if I decide to leave permanently I would eventually get paid for my unused leave and my IRA funds. I will probably have to spend unpaid time waiting for possible placements.

I have an interview next week in the company for another short term help desk position but it runs during my two trips this spring. They may not hire me given I have to lose so many days.

So you have there too Brandi.....It's not any easier, you're right but I will live through it. :rolleyes2

Kathy - So sorry to read this. I hope things work out for you and that you'll keep us updated. :flower3:

Thanks Princess! You know me....I always spill the beans!

It helps to unload here!

My LAST day of work after almost five years here; most of it with the same manager

Yes you will live that is for sure.

And yes I got my lay off notice, the day I left for bereavement leave for the death of my mother.

I ended up getting a job before the time ran out, but I thought that they could have handled it better.

David got his lay off notice last year, and he too was able to get another job.

Both of us work in the Government sector, so all of this sequestration and continuing resolution effects us everyday. We could be laid off at any moment.
