We are two-park premium AP's at DLR and we like to go to DL or DCA to ride a couple of rides and get a bite to eat at least once a week. From what I understand, many days up to 70% of DCA's attendees are AP's...most of whom, like us, are coming to ride a ride or two and grab a quick bite. Is anyone else finding it hard to get excited about ANY of the medium priced food at DCA? First of all, the couple of things that we did like (Hollywood and Dine and Lucky Fortune Cookery) are closed almost all of the time. The Farm walk-up window and Mali-burritos are also never open so this leaves:

Wharf - MIssion Mexican food (fair)
Boudin Soup and salad place (over-priced
and not real good)

Pier - Chicken Strip place (fair, but not really
a meal.)
Pizza-MowMow (yuck...terrible)
McDonald's (nuff-said)
Corn Dog Place (not really very good)

Condor Flats - Taste Pilots (the best of the lot
but you can't have it everytime)

Backlot - Award Weiners - (High priced hot dogs)

Where are the restaurants like Redd Rockets, or The Plaza, or the Riverbelle Terrace, or the French Market, or The Mexican/BBQ place, or The Carnation Cafe, or the soup and sandwich place in New Orleans? It's came to the point where my wife and I eat BEFORE we go to DCA. I'm sure that statement really makes the brass feel all warm inside! But seriously, we're usually not alone on how we feel about things. Is anyone else having trouble making DCA a semi-regular meal destination? Now I know that there is Avalon Cove and Soap Opera Bistro and the Winery thing but I'm talking places to eat without breaking the bank, with Disney quality food...not shopping mall and county fair quality food?

I haven't heard of anything in the works to fix THIS problem. If AP's really are 70% of DCA's attendance, God help em' with the food they're offering now.

Step back everyone, I agree with Roy. ;)

We usually leave the park and go eat at Storyteller's Cafe or Downtown Disney. I did like Hollywood & Dine but since that's closed all the time there aren't many choices left at DCA for us. I like good salads, the family likes burgers, and there is no counter service place where you can get both (the salad at Condor Flats was disgusting).

Definitely an area where DCA needs to improve.

I, too, agree with Roy, though it certainly helps that I think he's taken just a bit of the edge off compared to his older posts...

The lack of restaurant options was something we noticed when we were there. We had Corn Dogs for lunch, and ate at Avalon Cove, but this was back when it was a Puck restaurant.

I can't stand Soap Operas, so had no desire to set foot in the SO Bistro, but if rumors are true, that option will be taken away anyway... (The rumor is it will be turned into a Playhouse Disney indoor play area...)

Yeah I have to say that I am not too hot for the food there, in fact at a recent trip we ended up leaving the park to eat - how sad is that? I am okay about getting a snack there but not a real meal. They need a couple of good solid eateries there - we know that they are capable of it but it is a shame that it misses the mark.

Has anyone tried the "bistro" (less expensive) place at the winery? It is a sit down place that has pasta and salad and soup and it is moderately priced and very good. My husband and I ate there for a total of $23, incl. tip, which is not much more than we would have paid at one of the overpriced fast food stands. It was airconditioned and decent atmosphere and the food was good.

Why is Hollywood and Dine always closed??

Also - I wanted to stick up for the corn dog place - I think they have FANTASTIC corn dogs (although corn dogs are so greasy and unhealthy that you can't really eat them all the time)

So it sounds like i shouldnt plan on eating at DCA?? Are most Rest. open at least for lunch??

JLS, I've eaten at the Wine Country Trattoria they now have at the Golden Vine Winery. It's not bad, nothing to write home about.

Bob, there are several counter service places to eat at DCA for lunch and a few sit-downs as well (Soap Opera Bistro, Wine Country Trattoria and Avalon Cove). You don't HAVE to leave for lunch but we generally do. Storyteller's Cafe at the Grand Californian is a great choice and you can exit the park through the GC entrance and be there in a couple of minutes.
