A Boardwalk Gal's view of OKW

We never valet park. My DH will not let anyone touch his car!

We spend at least 2 months twice a year on Sanibel and go to Disney both coming and going. Because we are gone so long we have a lot more luggage than the average person. For this reason we do not check in early and store luggage.

We make sure our room is ready and then DH self parks the car and I go with the bellman to the room. When checking out I call bell services as my husband leaves to get the car. There has never been a time when the bellman and I didn't get to the loading zone before my husband. With at least 4 trips a year to Disney, usually 6, this has never failed to be the case.

I am not putting OKW down in any way, like I said before I love all the DVC resorts. It's just in our case, BWV is more convenient with their bell services. I forgot to mention we also have at least one huge Rubbermaid container that is completely packed. It is difficult for one person to get out of car.

As I also said before I like the parking at OKW better than BWV.
Usually the only time we touch the car is when we go to AKL for dinner or if we are staying more than a week, we make a second trip to Publix. We might be more apt to drive if we could just walk out to the car.

Bathroom - Again I think Boardwalk has the edge. We are in one of the older buildings (14) and to get to the bathroom from the living room you have to walk down the hall, into the bedroom, through the jacuzzi room and then into the bathroom. I know they did a second opening in the new models and I think that is smart.

Does anyone know if any of the OKW bathroom setups include that second entrance? Is every OKW 1BR setup so that you must walk past the jacuzzi to get into the shower/bathroom???

Buildings 30 and above (which were phase 2) have the 2nd door through the laundry room.

OOPS! Sorry Debbie. I must have been typing while you posted the bathroom answer!

Thank you!!! That seemed like the one thing we found a little disconcerting....DD was in the jacuzzi and just wasn't up to having anyone walk through (just imagine, at 13, anyone in the bathroom with you!:o :o :o ) to the shower/lav area.
Next trip, we'll try to get into one of those buildings.
Thanks, again, DebbieB. :wave2:
Thank you, too, dianeschlicht. :wave2:

Mary,
Thanks for the post! I was good to hear about your opinions on your stay. So sorry that it got hijacked into something else!! Even with your disclaimer.

I was just thinking to myself that the problem here was the title of the thread - maybe any title with Boardwalk and OKW in it together should automatically contain some sort of disclaimer!! Especially for the newbies! ha, ha  :jester:

:cool1: Seeing as how I own at VWL, I can just sit back and enjoy the show. Carry on :D .

Enough. You people have turn a nice trip report into a arguement over symantics. I do not want to lock this thread as the orginal post was a wonderful non-judgemental comparison of the two resorts. Please end this arguement over what contitutes bell service or I will strip this thread of those comments and leave the original post.

If there's one thing that OKW *and* BWV owners can agree on, it's that either resort is *far* superior to VWL.
;) ;) :p :teeth: :teeth:

Disclaimer: I don't actually have a problem with VWL (other than the themeing doesn't really work for me. I'm just stirring the pot and am actually staying at VWL for our July trip. ;)

If fact, it's just ruining my DVC vacation before I even leave. Why so negative?? I may have to stay away from the boards for a while.....etc, etc, etc.

Sorry...but it's about the point in a thread like this that someone had to say it. ;) ;) :o

Please do not let any of the comments influence where you stay. Our worst experience with bell services/luggage was at the Grand Floridian. We love the resort and one bad experience would not run me away.

I am not sure why some can't just say they like one resort better than another and not try to force that opinion on others. I like all the DVC resorts and have tried them all. They are all very different and offer different pluses and minus.

At times I think some owners are by their favorite DVC resort like some are thier children. They can never see their faults and constantly are tying to make others look bad to make theirs look better.

I think all the resorts can stand on their own merit. To say one is better is to say chocolate ice cream is the only good ice cream.
There is not single one that does not have some minuses.

The thing you have to remember is being different is ok to most of us, you will have a great time at OKW. It's a beautiful resort, villas are spacious and bright. Having so many windows is a feature we love.

Have a great trip!

Say thank you to the last poster (not the one you see, but the one that has been trashed). This thread has been stripped of the discussion about bell service.

Thanks for a wondeful TR! We own at SSR but have a last minute opportunity to go to WDW, so we will be staying at OKW in June. Thanks for the information -- sounds like agreat resort to visit!

Thanks for you assessment. As you can see I am taking my entire immediate family with us in August. I have a 2Br. from us 5, and a Studio for mom & dad, and a studio for my sister, and her family, so I am hoping we will be comfortable there.

One statement I would make on the debate that has begun here. As a DVC member, I feel I own at all the DVC resorts, even though my actual deed is at VB. It didn't seem to make much difference to reservations when I made mine, even though I had to wait an extra couple of months to do it.

No argument here that DVC is by far the best value for my hard earned dollar. As far as being in the middle of it all, last time we were are WDW we stayed at the Poly, now that's being in the middle of it. :D

One of the nice things about being a DVC member is that we have multiple DVC resorts that we can stay at ... each unique in its own way. I've read it said more than once that those thinking of joining should choose the resort that fits them best. I just love the fact that DVC members don't try to make everyone fit their mold. If only everything else in life were so considerate. 'nuf said!

Thanks to the OP for the comparison. My last trip was in an OKW 1 BR, next trip to a BWV 1 BR. Just one question-at OKW there was direct access to the porch from the bedroom. If anyone was sleeping in the LR, I could go out onto the porch without disturbing them. Does anyone know if this is the case at BWV?
