A bit of a cheat

That's more than "a bit" of a cheat. A heck of a lot more.

Well you will be charged $10 pp to walk around and take pics not to mention the space you cheated another family out of. So NO!

I think it is just plain rude. You would be taking up a table that another well intentioned family could use. Show some good manners and show up.

You're not guaranteed early entry with this, but the last two trips we made, on our first MK day we arrived early at the turnstiles and waited near the tunnel for rope drop, and both times were near the front. We were approached by a CM asking us if we would like to take a survey and be allowed in a bit early to the park to take some pics. We did it the first time we were asked and it was amazing how many people said no thank you. I guess they were worried that they would miss rope drop, but we completed the survey and had about 15 minutes to get our pictures. They asked us to stay on main street until the opening, but it was a nice opportunity.

Like I said, I know it's not a sure thing to be asked and I don't know if they do the surveys everyday, but it's another option if you don't want to attend breakfast.

Won't you get charged for not showing? I thougth you needed a cc to reserve at the Crystal palace?

No you don't need a credit card to reserve at the Crystal Palace, you are thinking of the castle ;) No charge for not showing they get it all the time just given to someone in stand by but I think if it before parks open then it is gone. :sad2:

You can normally assume that anything you have to refer to as a "cheat" won't be right with other people who aren't "cheating."

Stop on the way, take a picture or two, and enjoy your breakfast. Think long term: which will your son enjoy more: breakfast with the characters or some pictures of an empty building?

Have breakfast!

The point about taking a ressie from another family who wants one is a valid one, and reason enough.

As for the others:
1) We did do a pre-opening CP breakfast last year and were not impressed. My son (and the rest of us) enjoyed Chef Mickeys much, much more.
2) When we got in, there were a lot of people milling around. There was some sort of tour going on, there were people strolling up Main Street. We took pictures in front of the castle. No one ever said anything to us or anyone else that I saw.
3) We had 8:10 ressies, and they took forever to seat us. We didn't get out until about 9:30.

Ugh. :headache:

What was your point for making this thread then?

Because I didn't think about taking a ressie from somebody else. I was looking for a reason I shouldn't do it (as I detailed the reasons I thought I should), and as is usually the case, I got a good answer from the fine folks on the Dis.

Gus, It makes me feel better to know that you have taken our input about the other families!...........I have been one of those families that didn't get my reservation....a sad little 7 year old was crushed to not get to eat with her favorite characters, and it was our first Disney trip. ( Although, it was still an amazing experience all the way around!) But, just knowing her sadness makes me feel for any other kids that don't get into the character meals..........

Again, Thanks for rethinking your plans!

It is being reported on a couple posts that CP is now requesting a CC guarantee of $10 pp

Another good reason why this strategy wouldn't work.

I have 3 ADR's for Crystal Palace during our trip in Sept. and I was not asked for a cc# for any of them. They may in the future but they aren't asking for one now.

Then make an early ADR for Chef Mickey's :confused3 I have a 7:30am there and plan to be at the MK by rope drop. That way you get to eat and make the most of your day at the MK and you won't be keeping others that want to eat at the CP from getting to. I just don't see the point in holding up a table you have no intention of using.

Personally I think that is a rotten thing to do...you are holding a spot for a very popular meal that you know you will not use. All I picture is a family going for the first time and they want nothing more then to get into CP for breakfast and it is sold out because someone is booking a table that they will not use.

I hope if you do go to CP you have a fantasic meal, get in and see the characters and then get out in plenty of time to wander the park a bit. THis has happened to us once and it was great. The CMs that are in front of the ropes are great to talk to.
