We just returned from a week at VB. Great trip.

The boys saw a huge rat at the pool and while returning from the beach one afternoon we encountered a copperhead at least 6ft long on the walkway.

We had a 3rd floor room directly facing the ocean an absolutely wonderful view. The best we have ever had.

Dining; patio, capt. Hiriam's, Sonya's (seafood buffet) , and Sonya's.

Any questions?

Also the boys participated in the teen activities and had nothing but wonderful things to say!

Yup. They get snakes there quite often. One of the CM's who works there caught a few during our stay. He was telling the kids about it one night when we were out for a walk.

Did you see the rat? Did they trap it? My DH used to talk about "fruit rats" a lot when we lived in Florida.

We also just got back and enjoyed Shutters, Sonya's and Capt. Hiram's. I just love Capt. Hiram's. They have the best lime slushes (and good seafood, too. :D )

Sounds like you had a great trip. :D

Oh my! I really don't know what to say, but thank you for that info. I'll keep it filed.

Those rats are VERY common at Vero!!! Aren't they beach rats or something?? There was a very long, very funny thread about them a while back...

I'm surprised about the snake though!

I'm SHOCKED!

You'd think by now your boys would recognize Mickey Mouse when he makes an appearance by the pool!! :earseek:

Glad you enjoyed your view and your trip!

OMG! Rats are my biggest phobia! Snakes are second! I will be locking myself in my room at VB in September and I won't be coming out. I hope room service is really good!

If anyone is there over Labor Day, I will be the woman looking out the window for three straight days (glad I got that Ocean View Inn Room). Now if anyone has seen them in the rooms, then I'll be the woman in the car in the parking lot. Just smile and wave!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

We just booked VB and we are both freaked by snakes. So much so we are probably NOT moving south because of them. Please tell me it moved quickly out of sight. DH is freaking right now. Now he doesn't want to go. If we encountered one of those esp. that big, all DVC'ers around the world will hear me.

I remember the rat thread-they called them Dune Rats. Said they come out for the smores at the campfire.

The snakes they have there are more afraid of you than you are of them. The maintenance guys will catch them if they see them.

I wouldn't worry.

:D

So far, I have not encountered rats or snakes at Vero -- if I had, you would still be hearing the scream. ;)

Not only at Vero but at WDW as well, you are in a tropical area -- always look before stepping into grass or sticking your hand in a bush. You just never know what is there.

Here's an idea...let's go at the same time, I'll have DH wrestle the snakes, you wrestle the rats! (Notice, I'm wrestling neither)

LOL! That reminds me of my first trip to Disney, there was a cricket in our room. My friend was freaking out, and I was laughing hysterical. I kept telling her that it was just Jiminy coming in for a visit. How special was that? LOL!

Two summers ago we were watching the Electrical Parade at VWL on the lake. My dd said there was a snake nearby on the beach while my dh said it was only a stick. Well this stick moved and finally slithered away into the lake. So watch for them at VWL as well especially by the lake. It was too dark for us to tell what kind it was. There were quite a few kids in the edge of the water not too far away. I guess it was trying to get away from all of the splashing.

On our last visit to BWV, we were walking back to the Boardwalk from the International Gateway, and my DW spied a black snake sunning itself in the flower bed. When I first looked at it, I thought it was just a fake set up to keep the birds away, but then it moved.....and so did I.

I have a real phobia about snakes, and believe me - I was watching that pathway every time we made the trek for the entire week.

:earseek:

We saw a snake last week on the pavement right by the entrance to the boat at International Gateway at Epcot. We were also very careful the rest of the week in that area. :)

The snake was probably looking for the rat,

the rat was probably looking, to get back to disney:teeth:

What kind of teen activities did your boys participate in? We will be there in 11 days with our 14 yr old DD. She is abit skeptical of this first trip to VB and thinks we should just spend all our time at OKW.

I'm not even going to mention rats or snakes!

We were at VB just about two weeks ago, and my daughter said that she saw a rat. I thought that was very un-disney like, and asked her if it was a squirrel, to which she replied that she knew the difference between a rat and a squirrel. Never saw any snakes, though.

Daughter (14) did not do much of the activities, (too busy in the ocean) but one night wanted to go t the teen campfire, and we couldn't find it, at the soccer field. Also very un-disney like, it was very dark on the way to the soccer field, saw no signs indicating such, and heard no campfire noises, so we gave up looking. Two CM's told us where it should have been, but it was not obvious. And now that we know there are snakes around....
