A beer that tastes good?

As an Englishman I drink beer, as a supporter of CAMRA I drink Ale. On a hot day I also drink Lager but like one with flavour.

Two weeks ago I took my son for his Birthday Dinner and we ordered a Micholob Ultra, It was served very cold as is the way with American beers but it tasted like water!

As I will be in Orlando in August and would like a tasty US beer what can my friends across the pond suggest.

Will you have a car?

If so, go to the Publix and get a Sierra Nevade Pale Ale. Widmers has a flavourful "American" Hefeweizen.

Anchor also makes two good ales - Liberty and Steam. I prefer Liberty.

There is a Tusker House available at Animal Kingdom Lodge and in Harambe in Animal Kingdom. Not sure if it's American, though. There's also an African beer available at AKL. Can't recall the name. $8 for a 20 oz bottle.

I feel your pain.

Every time I go to England I literally wash in your wonderful beers (although last time I saw that American swill is making great headway in the pubs).

I rarely drink American beer due to its lack of character. However, I can recommend Bass ale.

The Michelob Ultra is for people on low carb diets.

The only beer I like is a Corona with lime.

I would let the bartender know that you don't like wimpy beers and ask for something hearty. I like lighter beers, especially Miller Lite, but Michelob Ultra does taste watery.

Micholob Ultra is not a typical american beer. I wouldn't even call it beer.

What type of Ales do you like? There are plenty of great American beers that you can share with your friends. Tell us what you normally drink and I can find some comparable American alternatives.

IMO, there is no good beer. The ones I've sipped, Coors Light seemed the least offensive - so you can cross that off the list. :)

DH likes Budweiser and Rolling Rock, but he always tries regional beers, too. Don't know if that helps, or if it is an American thing. :)

Bass have one of the oldest trade marks in the world in the red triangle. But their beer is not the best, as a good standard beer I like London Pride but enjoy sampling different ones.

For Information The Great British Beer Festival is on from the 7th to 11th August this year and will be held at the Earls Court Exhibition centre in London. Over 450 real ales are due to be there.

Actually, the US has some of the best beers and best breweries in the world. Its just that none of them are named Bud, Miller or Coors.

Sam Adams
I am not an American beer fan at all and I love my Sam

My personal favorite's Fat Tire; unfortunately, I don't think you can buy it east of the Mississippi. Sorry for being of absolutely no help whatsoever. :)

It's times like this that you wish alcohol didn't have an effect. I would love to sample 450 beers without dying.

I have tried Anchor beers at least they have some flavour, and Sierra Nevada.
I have not seen Widmars Hefewizen.

Hmm, I seem to remember a Monte Python joke about making love in a canoe. Sadly, not DIS-friendly…

Anyway, keep in mind that Ultra isn't beer - it's beer flavored water for dieters.

There are tons of Great American Beers. Most are regional, so it's tough to make a recommendation. Go to good bars and trust your bartender. In general, I think the craft brewers are doing their best with IPA's these days. I'll take a local craft beer over almost any mass market beer.

But if you want a mass recommendation - or you get stuck in a bar that restricts itself to the mass brewers, Sam Adams isn't bad. Right now they have a summer ale that's pretty tasty.
