A battery question?

Hopefully someone on these boards can help me. We are going to need quite a few batteries for various things but especially our digital camera which eats them! Mainly AA & AAA. Can you get these easily in Orlando at a similar price or cheaper than the UK? I don't want to pack too much but don't want to get caught out either!

Why not get rechargables?

We got 24 AA batteries for about $8 (£4.70) at Walmart in the summer so alot cheaper, except in the parks then expext to pay simialr to here!

Target can also be quite cheap and Walgreens also stock them, but at a higher price. We take recharables, they take a bit longer but still cost effective.

Its usually recommended to use NI-MH rechargable batteries for Digital cameras as they should last longer than normal batteries for even Duracells then you can just use them again - they are about the same price as Duracells on-line or in Mapplins. Roughly £1 for a high capacity NI-MH one.

you can buy a charger and re-chargable baterries in walmart for around $10.

If you decide to go down the rechargeable route, there are 2 points to consider.

1) Check your camera's manuals - some specifically say not to use rechargeable batteries. The voltage delivery curves are different for rechargeables.

2) Check that the charger will work on 110v if you're going to take it with you. Or get a cheap charger out there.

We've got a Solar recharger which we stick on the dashboard when we're driving. Charges our AAA batteries a treat and works anywhere. It cost $12 from Blacks and charges 4 AAA at a time for free! (and there's no need to worry about different plug sockets etc.)

I've got the Uniross Globe Trotter charger. It works at 110-240V AC and has US plug connections built in. Folds very small and comes with 4 AA rechargeable batteries and UK/European adapters.

I used my non roaming charger, it worked but needed 2 charging runs to get them topped up.
