A bad situation occurred at MGM...

Am i the only that thinks he is not so nuts. I mean he didnt really DO anything except to tell you to stop it, and honeslty I am not saying your kid is one of these but i have sat around quite a few where i would have said the same thing. its not like he cursed. Like I said I dont know if your son was squirting him prior, but if i had your kid behind me and kept getting wet, I would prob stand up and tell you the same thing.

Now if he just got annoyed because he had one drop when it fell thats a whole nother story. Then I would say he is a jerk and could have controlled saying anything. I mean it is a child and accidents do happen.

Maybe im just the mean one in the bunch cuz i have said things before to people being annoying as well.

If your nuts so am I because I'm thinking the same thing. I don't care how hot it is I don't like to be spritzed. And what if he had his camera out, he may not have wanted water on that. If I had been being spritzed for half the show and then splashed I probably would have yelled to.

Nuts here too and I have kids. I would not have screamed like that because I just wouldn't do that but I can understand his annoyance. I don't care how hot it is I don't think someone else should decide if I need to get spritzed. I would not have liked that at all. We would not have let our kids play with something like that in a place like the mentioned show because you are so close together. If they did however bother someone or whatever we would have apologized.

I think if the DS in question had already sprayed the man a few times (by accident), the man could have simply turned around and politely asked the OP or her husband to please have the child stop. Getting to the point where you're standing and yelling like that is just silly. And if the DS hadn't sprayed him already, then he needs a chill pill, he's totally overreacting.

I agree with the earlier poster who wrote that some people are just tense at Disney, because of the $$$ and because of everything they're trying to get done.

ITA.
::yes::

OH and I wouldn't have punched him but I might have "accidently" squirted him just one more time. :rolleyes1 OK, not really...but I would have been tempted. :stitch2: lol

I agree too. Also it's not just silly, but dangerous to confront someone like that. You have no idea what the other person might be capable of doing. Politely asking someone to have thier child stop is the right way to go.

I agree -- I don't like to be spritzed either. Then you're hot *and* damp.

It definitely sounds like the situation could have been handled better by everyone involved. I wouldn't have yelled, even if I'd been sprayed more than once...but I know I have *felt* like yelling before.

I also noticed that OP's DH said, "Calm down, it was an accident." rather than "I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again."

I would have enjoyed being sprayed with water, that show does get hot.

I think your hubby handled the situation really well!!!! Good thing he was able to manage himself...too bad the other one didn't. :thumbsup2

Add me to the nut list.:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

Since the man reacted the way he did ,I think he must have been sprayed more than once.

If it was me, I would not have yelled. I would have glanced toward the parents to see if they would put an end to the spraying. If they didn't, I would have smiled at the child and asked him (nicely) not to spray me again. If that didn't work, I would then ask the parents to make him stop. (I wouldn't smile and I wouldn't say it nicely)

Kids will be kids, but it's the parents responsibility to make sure their kids don’t bother those around them.

I don't think your nuts, I completely agree. I've been subject to little ones that parents can't/won't control and it can be really annoying. I never let my daughter do things like that so I expect the same courtesy.

I don't like being sprayed with the mister fans personally. It almost always gets on my glasses which can only be wiped with the special cloth. It's a real pita.

I don't like being sprayed either, but yelling at other people's (or any) kids is never the right answer. :sad2:

This doesn't make me feel good about how they'd deal with a more dangerous threat. Five minutes to respond to a problem at the gate? That's inexcusable. You think the security people checking bags in front of the gates would have broken up the fight.

And by 5 minutes I am being generous. I was floored that not a single CM ticket taker did anything. One was even just standing back watching! I agree about the bag checkers- but after that incident I noticed they don't have anything on them to break up a fight except a pen light! So yeah I learned a very sobering lesson on my last trip. And that is also the reason why there needs to be ADULTS on teen trips. You can't just let a group of teens wander the park alone.jmho

I agree. I can't stand those water spritzers. I've even had the occasional cast members spritzing me while I had my video camera out. I have no idea what on earth they were thinking??? I did not appreciate getting it wet. :sad2:

Well when we were in MGM at Easter we saw 2 teenage girls slugging it out right at the entrance to the park- inside the park. The ticket cm's just stood around watching. HELLO Isn't security suppose to be nearby. When I finally got a store cm to call security a elderly man strolled down the street 5 minutes later. It was a disaster- girls cursing like you have never heard and slamming each others heads into the pavement. My 9 year old was so scared I got her out of there to not scare her. But I was floored by the lack of security.
Relax people it is vacation. That guy sounds like a hothead. Good job screaming at a child too! Hope he felt like the jerk he was.

Oh My! My DD7 would be terrified and I would not want my children seeing something like this. They need to up security at the parks a bit  . Of course some people don't want to misted with the fans, especially if you ahve a camera. When my DS started to play with his he got removed from the show ASAP. That still doesn't give this man the right to yell at OP and her DS. He sounds like a hothead.

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still going. Just one thing to add to my OP, the guy that yelled was a total nutcase. His eyes were bulging, his face was red, and he was not wet. No matter what the reason, he had no right to yell at us like that - ESPECIALLY for getting a few drops of water on him. :confused3 I mean, please!! And when he was about to sit down, his wife gave him the dirtiest look leading me to believe that this was not the first time he'd lost his temper like that.

ITA! Little "accidents" like this happen all the time to me at Disney. I've been misted, foot run over by a stroller, bumped into, cut in front of in line...all usually by someones child. I don't like when these things happen but I couldn't imagine yelling at someones child (or anyone for that matter). I guess screaming and yelling in a threatening manner isn't such a knee-jerk reaction if it's NOT a part of your everyday life. Sadly, I bet his little girl had seen this type of behavior out of him many times. I'm so glad I have such a calm reasonable husband.

Not that this makes the guy's actions right, but perhaps he had been silently stewing while getting sprayed in line, then sat for the show and sat stewing even more while getting sprayed yet again (and not looking forward to it lasting the whole show). I get hot at Disney too, but do NOT NOT NOT like having water sprayed on me when I am not ready for it. I have had to ask kids to spray their fans a different direction, if it bothered me, but I didn't stand up and let loose like that dad, of course.

Anyway, sorry a fellow traveller to the Happiest Place on Earth went off on your family that way. He was within his rights to be annoyed at getting sprayed, but he handled it very poorly.

Beth

What a jerk. My Dh had to take my DS2 out of the Beauty and the Beast show at MGM because he was spraying the misting fan and would not stop playing with it. We turned the water off but DS had a cow so they just left the show . We got plenty of dirty looks but no one shouting at us. It was very hot and humid as it was Labor Day but not everyone wanted to be spritzed wuth water ;) .

As a fellow parent, my hat goes off to you. It is very difficult to remove a child from a show or something, but you guys did what you had to. I say good job!

Beth

I also noticed that OP's DH said, "Calm down, it was an accident." rather than "I'm sorry, sir. It won't happen again."

Good catch! I totally, totally agree. The man reacted badly, but he did REACT to something and an apology was certainly the MOST appropriate response.

Beth

Okay...three pages of replies is enough-but I feel compelled.........

Yes, the adult should have been nicer BUT so many times (and I'm not saying to the OP you are like this!!!) parents don't respect other people's space. Everyone is entitled to their own "space" and sometimes some parents (and I'm not saying you cause I don't know you and I wasnt there) think it's okay for their kids to squirt away or run around because "Oh aren't they so cute and aren't they having such a good time, etc. etc." with no consideration for the other people around them. I'm thinking this man must have had prior annoyances or he's just a nut case!
