Well I just made a reservation to take the train to Orlando in Feburary. Now that that was done I thought I would poke around and look into car rentals. Well it turns out that Hertz has a partnership of some sorts with Amtrak and so I thought I would check that out. I called their reservation number to ask a few questions. Yes I know it is early 10 months out, but I wanted info on how it worked and if there was any way I could make the reservation online so I could track the price. Well it turns out the first woman I talked to was clueless and the superviser was rude. Yes I know I was calling early, but I wasn't calling for rates, I just wanted some info and as a person calling for info...I don't care if I am calling 10 days, 10 weeks, 10 month or even 10 years from my trip, I expect my answers to be given to me in a friendly helpful way in order to convince me that I should go with them rather then a company I have been doing business with for years.

So my question is did I just hit a bad apple (or two) or is all of Hertz like this and I might be risking adding stress to my vacation if I go with them? What are people experances with Hertz? Thanks

Hertz will guarantee a car, but NOT rates more than 6 months out. Hertz people are about the same as most other car companys, some good some bad.
Hertz cars are the best in the industry. I have never had a problem in getting what was ordered. The cars are new, clean and ready to go. If the rate is good at the six month window book it, they tend to be higher than national, buget or alamo.

Yeah I know about the 6 month thing...I was mostly looking for info about if I could book online for the Downtown Hertz and still be picked up at the train station, which is something they do if you call and make your reservations, so I wasn't even asking about rates. They were very upset I was calling and asking about this.

they are fine, go to the web site HERTZ.Com and do a search, put in Orlando and it will ask for the exact location, find the one for AMTRACK station. NOTE: Make sure the location is open when the train arrives, some locations close early.

That is the thing you can't book a car rental online for the Orlando Amtrak station you need to call and make it over the phone. It is a reservation to the Downtown Orlando Hertz rental car and they pick you up from the train station and bring you to they Downtown location. I guess there is a special flag they need to put on the reservation to say you are coming to the train station. I wanted to know if I could make my own reservation online and they could add the flag to pick me up because I want to watch the prices. So it isn't as easy as just making a reservation on line. :D

I would make the reservation now online. You can always keep checking to see if the price changes. When it gets closer to the date then CALL Hertz and tell them that you want to modify your reservation and that you need picked up at the train station.

I am a 5 star preferred with Hertz and love their service. We use it all the time at MCO. We are at our car in less than 10 mins. Much better than National IMHO.
