A second earthquake measuring 5.8 on the richter scale has hit only a few miles from yesterdays quake in southern Italy two hours ago. No new injuries or deaths occured from the aftershock.

The death toll from yesterday's quake is now up to 29, 26 of which are children. The devastation in this small Italian town is unbelievable. An entire first grade class was lost, my heart breaks for all of those families who lost loved ones. I have a first grader and can't even imagine how they are feeling, it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

:( Keeping you all in my thoughts tiggerlover. I have a friend in Genoa I need to email.

This is because Etna is stirring isn't it?

I am wondering if there is a connection to the volcano? Are they connecting the 2?

Thanks for the update, TL. I'll be thinking of everyone out there today. :(

I am thinking of you all.

I lived in Naples for 3 years in the late 80's. We moved there shortly after the last really big quake to hit that region and the damage was terrible to see. We knew that living in that area there was always the possibility of big quakes but it is still hard to deal with when it happens.

I heard about the earthquake this morning on the car radio. So sad, I can't even imagine what the parents of those kids are going through.

Stay safe!

I'm so glad to hear you and your family are safe. That is so awful for those families. :(

So Sad. Those poor families. :( :( They and you are in my thoughts and prayers!

I was thinking of you this morning and wondering if you were close to where that happened.
How horrible!:(

tiggerlover -
I thought of you this morning when I saw the reports about the first earthquake.
I am relieved that you and your family are alright.
My heart goes out to the families that lost children, as I too have a first grader & can't imagine the pain they are going through. They will be in my thoughts & prayers.

Mt. Etna is a volcano... it is said to be stirring and usually seismic activity occurs before a volcano erupts.

TL, I thought of you immediatley when I saw this on the news. So glad to hear you are ok. My heart breaks for those poor children and their families. Stay safe!

oh Debbie :( How sad! Please stay safe.........

Debbi I've been thinking about you & wondering if you were affected by this at all.

It is so sad that so many children perished. I do hope Mt. Etna settles down again soon, so no more devastion occurs.

Thanks for letting us know that you're ok tho............. never sure what to do in situations like this.:(

This is so heart breaking. I can't imagine losing an entire first grade class :( Bless
