~ A 21 month old, a celebrity sighting, & a whole lotta food~2 week trip~ 2/28 update

After a full morning at Epcot, we got back to the condo at 3:15 to put Dylan down for his nap. We all rested for a while and around 5:30 my parents left for the conference that my dad needed to go to. Dylan woke up soon after, so we all got ready to go get some dinner. It was a cloudy out but it looked like it was going to be a great night weather-wise.

We decided to try to get into Beaches & Cream for dinner. We have eaten here before and I really wanted to get a No Way Jose. We drove over to the Beach Club and parked in the parking lot. We realized that we had never come in the front doors before…we usually will visit the Boardwalk and then walk around to the Beach Club and come in the back way. We’ve never seen how pretty the front of this resort is. I love visiting the beach, and the architecture here is so perfectly “beachy” that it makes me happy.

We walked around the hotel for a while and took pictures. Previously, we have visited here during the holiday season, so we have pictures of the lobby decorated with Christmas décor, but we had none of the lobby as it usually is. It is nice with how light & airy it feels. The furniture itself feels more formal but the overall atmosphere is very casual.

We checked out the gift shop and found a room called The Solarium. Let me just say that if I was staying at this hotel, I would have found some time to go to this room and read a book for a while. It looked so peaceful & quiet in there!

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

We got to Beaches & Cream and there was an hour wait to get seated. It really irritates me that this is a place that you cannot get an ADR for, considering there is always such a long wait to get in. We decided not to wait, because Dylan was hungry and getting antsy already, so we made a plan to come back around 9:00 and get just ice cream.

We walked to Epcot and went to France to get some dinner. We went back to the Boulangerie Patisserie because we saw that they had sandwiches there. We split a turkey sandwich and got another Napoleon :) . We had brought a PBJ sandwich for Dylan to eat, so I went to sit with him at the indoor seating while Todd stood in line for the food. We sat in the back corner because Dylan was getting a little feisty and I didn’t want him to bother everyone else.

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

Our turkey sandwich & Napoleon. The sandwich was good, but the bread was toasted so it was harder than expected and much messier! We had crumbs everywhere by the time that we got done eating it. We couldn’t even blame the mess on Dylan. :confused3

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

Dylan was starting to be a naughty boy, and I’m sure it’s because he was sick of being in his stroller. He was ready to get out & run. We tried to explain to him that we just needed to finish eating and he could get out, but he started doing the arch-your-back-and-cry thing and he wouldn’t stop. So we put him in a time out by turning his stroller around to face the wall. As soon as we did it, he stopped crying instantly. It was pretty funny. For some reason, using a time out on him works really well, and most of the time he only needs to do it once and he forgets that he was being bad. I know, we are lucky!

His time out. :)

ry%3D480

We finished eating and headed over to Morocco. On the way there we let Dylan get out of his stroller and run. There is a big grassy area right there and all he wanted to do was run on the grass and walk along the curb. We stood there for about 10 minutes and let him get on the curb, jump off the curb, get on the curb, jump off the curb. He was having a great time. You could hear the music coming from Morocco and I realized that it was MoRockin playing. We have never seen them before so we walked over that way.

When we got there, a lot of people were watching them but we were able to get close enough for Dylan to see them and to see the belly dancer. Todd decides to pipe in and say, “Nobody told me there was a dancer!” Dylan started dancing too, until he realized that we were videotaping him and that others were watching him. Then he got embarrassed and stopped. MoRockin was really good and it was a lot of fun to listen to them play. I wish that we would have done more of that on this trip. It is easy to walk right by and not even see the entertainment when you are on a mission to get somewhere.

We walked by the American Adventure and there was a band playing in the outdoor theater area. They were an Eagles cover band and they were pretty good! We walked to Japan because we have never taken much time to explore this area. We stopped out front and watched the Koi fish for a while. Dylan watched them for quite a while and was happy to point out all of the different fish.

ry%3D480

We walked through the shops and saw the pick-a-pearl station. It was full of people crowding around it. I have to think that they make a lot of money on this because all of the people create such a hype about it, and it makes others want to do it.

We found some great placemats here. They are rectangle in shape and they are made of bamboo. They had them stained in different colors, but we picked a dark brown stain. I don’t have any pictures of them but I will have to add it later. They are so pretty, and SO heavy. I couldn’t believe that they were only $5.00 each! Their value seemed much more to me than what they were charging for them. I almost didn’t buy them because they were so heavy and I was worried about packing them in my suitcase for the flight home. I thought for sure that they would put my bag over the weight limit. Todd convinced me that it would be ok, so we ended up buying 6 of them. I just love them and I’m so glad he talked me into it. I will try & take a picture soon and post it.

We walked over to Italy as it was starting to get dark. This is a lovely area already, but when all of the lights come on, it is even better. I guess we didn’t take very many pictures this night, but I know that we took a lot of video.

As we were leaving, we saw a CM walking around with a little girl that was probably 3 years old. You could tell that she was lost and was looking for her parents. I wanted to watch to see what they do when they find a lost child (I hope that never happens to us!) and she just kept holding her hand and walking very slowly in the area where she was found. You could tell that a lot of people were standing around watching because the little girl looked so scared. They finally found the parents not too far away, and they were sitting on a bench. The CM walked up with the girl and said, “She was lost and couldn’t find you.” The parents looked surprised and said, “Oh, thanks.” And that was it! They didn’t even realize that she was missing!!! Everyone watching the situation was instantly disgusted with the parents because they looked totally unconcerned. (We walked back by them about ½ hour later and the parents were standing and talking. The little girl was wandering away again and they didn’t even notice. Grrrr.).

It was 8:30 so we decided to watch Illuminations over by France so that when it was over we could get right out and walk back over to Beaches & Cream. We stopped to take some pictures next to the water. I was holding Dylan and Todd was getting the camera ready. I don’t remember what I was saying to Dylan but all of a sudden he grabbed my head and hugged me really hard. It was like a death grip on my head but it was so sweet. I love when he decides to get affectionate out of nowhere. The best part is that Todd got a picture of it. Sorry they are so dark…..

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

Then a nice man came up and offered to take a picture of all of us together. I love when people do that!! Unfortunately, it came out very dark too, but I like it anyway because it comes with a good memory.

ry%3D480

By now the clouds were rolling in and getting really dark. We stopped to listen to the Eagles band on the way back to France and they were playing Hotel California (which I LOVE!). We took some video and then kept walking. The entire sky was black by now and the wind was kicking up. We talked about our options, and we decided to leave. We didn’t want to be pushing Dylan’s stroller through a lot of people while they were trying to get out of the rain. I was really disappointed because I wanted to see Illuminations but it is just another thing to add to our list for the next trip.

We walked back to the Beach Club rather than waiting for the boat. We stopped at the bridge to take some video and enjoy the view. We heard Illuminations starting and felt that the wind was getting worse, so we didn’t stay there for long. As we were about 2 minutes from the hotel, it started raining fat drops of rain. There were people on the beach that had settled in to watch a movie on a big screen, and they all started running inside. We made it to Beaches & Cream and it was still an hour wait to get in. We didn’t want to wait, so we walked back to our cars in the rain. We had the cover pulled over Dylan on his stroller and we were using our umbrellas. Dylan kept stretching out his hands to feel the raindrops. Then the lightning and thunder started, so I was glad we were so close to our car.

We got home about 9:45, much earlier than we had wanted to get home. It continued to rain through the night. Dylan played with his ball until my parents got home at 11:00 and then we all went to bed around midnight.

The Beach Club is definately a nice Resort! Love the pics you got form it.

:rotfl2: Love the pic of his time-out! So glad you found something that worked.

Aw, I bet he was cute dancing!

Poor little girl! We've stopped to help little kids find a CM before. I just can't imagine that feeling. And her parents weren't even upset about it! :guilty:

Heck, even though those pics are dark, they are still cute!

Love the update!! Dylan reminds me so much of my son, Aiden. He even looks like him!! How old was he on this trip? My son will be 2 this November, and we are going in January.

The reason I was writing is to ask you how long the walk is to the Beach Club.Boardwalk area from Epcot? We are possibly planning on doing this to check the resort out. Also, is there a boat that can take you if it is really long?

I can not BELIEVE how those parents just let their kid walk around. We are the type of parents that stay on top of our kids (maybe too much?) but care for their safety. It is amazing they did not even know she was gone :scared1:

Very nice update Alison. Yes, those pics of you and Dylan are priceless. He is such a good boy. You do know how fortunate you are. Too bad you didn't get to eat at Beaches and Cream. But that is why you always plan to go back.

Ginny

You guys had quite a bit of rain this trip!!
Who cared, it never stopped all your fun!!
Bet the anticipation of DL is growing and
growing!!

My costume was funny. I was at Forever 21 and found this hilarious furry leopard jacket and I wore that with a black shirt and pleather skirt. I teased my hair up like crazy and it was just really funny. The best part was that when I bought the skirt and coat the guy working the register said, "Oh my gosh! This is going to be SUCH a cute outfit!" I looked at him like he was crazy and said it was for a costume :lmao:

Anyways - love the photos from Epcot. I've never been to Beaches and Cream but always wanted to try it. I cannot believe that lost little girl!! Although my brother in law and sister are oblivious sometimes :sad2:

Can't wait for the next installment!

That sounds like a lovely evening at Epcot. I can't believe the wait for B&C, that's just nuts! While it's a bummer you were home earlier than planned, thank goodness you didn't get stuck in that rain.

What a relaxing day!

Too bad about Beaches and Cream....:confused3

The Solarium is a great place to just chill. I've been able to hang out there and read some Disney stuff....

Great update!! Sorry you didn't get to see Illuminations--we didn't get to see it on our trip either due to rain. Next time!! Yes, how close is the Boardwalk to Epcot? Brent said he wanted to see it on our next trip. That's CRAZY about that girl being lost and her parents not really caring--so sad! I would have been FREAKING out!! Can't wait to hear more!

Great update! Too bad you didn't get your sundae!!! Next time!

Ummmmm....yeah..... some people should be forced to be neutered pre-parenting!!!! I know there is no real perfect parent, but really...your toddler is missing and you don't know??? That's is SUPER responsible!!! Maybe they had too many drinks around the world that day!!!

We are always amazed at how well the time out works with him. Most of the time we will say, "go take your time out" and he runs right to the spot and stays until we get him up. :confused3 It works, thank goodness!

I was really mad at that girl's parents. I understand that you can't keep an eye on them all of the time, but at least show some concern once you get your kid back! :headache:

He was 21 months old. He turned 2 about 6 weeks ago. You are going to have so much fun with him on your trip!

The walk is not far at all, maybe a 10 minute stroll? We were pushing the stroller as well. It is farther from the Boardwalk than from the Beach Club, but not by much. There is a boat that you can take. I'm not sure of all the places that it stops, but it will let you out right by where you enter Epcot.

We are really conscious of where Dylan is too. I would be so freaked out if that situation happened to me!

Very nice update Alison. Yes, those pics of you and Dylan are priceless. He is such a good boy. You do know how fortunate you are. Too bad you didn't get to eat at Beaches and Cream. But that is why you always plan to go back.

We were pretty disappointed about Beaches & Cream. Their food is good there, not just the desserts. We will just have to figure out when an "off" time is during the day to go so that we don't have to wait so long.

You guys had quite a bit of rain this trip!!
Who cared, it never stopped all your fun!!
Bet the anticipation of DL is growing and
growing!!

We did have a lot of rain. I didn't realize how much until I started typing up this TR. It forced us to change around our schedule quite a bit, but we probably got more rest on this trip than we would have otherwise.

I have been lurking on this TR for a long time now and I figured now is the time to say..........
How Totally Awesome!!!!

Fantastic TR! Thanks for sharing all your fun.

I am patiently waiting :rolleyes1 :surfweb: to see/hear about the celebrity sighting.

Can't wait for more

What a great update! We stayed at the BC in August so your pictures totally brought me back. We keep saying that we could just live there and be totally happy. The walk to Epcot and all that yummy food is so convenient, especially with a toddler. The pictures of you and Dylan are too cute. My DD does that every once in a while too and I just hug and kiss her back. I love it! That story about the lost girl with her parents makes me so sad. I was terrified of losing DD or having her run off while we were at WDW. Ugh.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'll be posting cake pics of the little guy from the past years next week since his birthday is coming up!

Great update!

I would have been so scared if I were that child's parents...doesn't it just make you mad how some people parent their kids?? :headache: Anyhoo, I digress...

Your pictures with Dyaln were SO SWEET! :lovestruc I just love those little moments. It was great you got it captured on film!

I wonder if he really meant it or if they are supposed to say that (no matter how terrible the outfit is!). LOL that is so funny. It sounds like your outfit was great!

I was most bummed about B&C. Their ice cream is soooo good. I wish that you could get an ADR for that place...

The Solarium just gave me that feeling like "you are now on vacation". What a nice place to hang out and have some down time.

The walk from the Boardwalk is about 10 minutes, but there is also a boat that you can catch that will drop you off right next to the entrance to Epcot. It's really not that bad of a walk at all. I would be freaking out too if we lost Dylan, even for a minute. The parents looked totally oblivious.

Great update! Too bad you didn't get your sundae!!! Next time!

I agree. The part that got to me even worse was seeing them later when they didn't realize that she was wandering off again. Maybe they had been drinking, but losing your child once already that day should have been a wake up call. :confused3

I am right there with you about living at the Beach Club. That wouldn't be hard to do at all.

I'm so happy that Todd caught that moment on the camera. It's so sweet when he decides to get "agressively affectionate". I love it! Hopefully he won't grow out of doing that for a long time.

Just thought I'd let you know that I'll be posting cake pics of the little guy from the past years next week since his birthday is coming up!

How sweet. What a great idea. I bet it's fun to see how much he has changed from year to year. I'll be looking for it!

Your pictures with Dyaln were SO SWEET! :lovestruc I just love those little moments. It was great you got it captured on film!

It was interesting to see how many people were watching the situation with the girl and how everyone's reaction was the same once she was turned back over to the parents. Everyone around us was seriously disgusted, and you should have heard some of the things that people were saying!

I love that picture with Dylan. I wish the lighting was better... it would be nice to put that one in a frame.

We were up by 7:15 this morning. We were headed to the AK and the main item on the agenda was to ride EE. Has it occurred to you that Todd and I have STILL not ridden a roller coaster on this trip yet? It is DAY 13 and no thrill rides have happened. We were in serious withdrawl.

Before we left, I got online to check the weather for the day and saw that Farrah Fosset had died. So sad that she battled her illness for so long. Definitely put a damper to the start of the day.

We left the condo by 8:30 and we got to the park by 9:05. I was so proud of us for being so close to the park opening! We headed straight to EE to get a fastpass. The return time was for 10:30. We were about to leave and we saw that the Stand By time was only 20 minutes so we decided to ride it right then. My mom said she would watch Dylan while we rode.

We started to get in line when we noticed the sign for the Single Rider line, so we jumped in that line instead. There was only 1 person in the line. In under 2 minutes, Todd and I were sitting on a train about 3 rows apart, and my dad was in the train right behind us. I rode next to a guy and his 2 young kids were sitting right in front of us. All of them were first-timers on the ride and they were a little nervous. The dad told me that the wait was over an hour the day before, so they came back this morning just to ride it. I told him that I would try not to scream like a girl. He said he would also try to not scream like a girl.

What can I say? It was AMAZING! Such a perfect first roller coaster to go on after all of that wait. I have to say that in my opinion, this is the best coaster in WDW. The view that you get from the top, all of the details that they give you to look at, the part that goes backwards, the Yeti, the huge drop… it is all pure genius. Sigh. I want to go on it right now. I noticed that the Yeti was not moving. I remember that the last time we went on it, he was really animated and I thought it took a swipe at you with him arm. Am I wrong? This time I think it just had a strobe light effect. Did they change this? I just remember him being much scarier the first time that I rode it.

As our train was returning, I told the dad about the Single Rider Line. It made sense for them to use it at least once since they had come all the way to the park to just ride this ride. We got off and after talking about it, we all decided to do it again using the SRL. I checked in with my mom to see how Dylan was doing. He was happily jumping on some stairs, so we went and got back in line.

My dad was laughing at Todd and I because he said that the first time in line we were both giddy with anticipation. I thought that was really funny because that is exactly how I felt. We waited about 5 minutes this time and then we were on. So in less than 20 minutes time, we were able to ride EE twice. Pretty cool. By the way, the dad and his 2 kids were in the SRL with us and he was so happy that I had told him about it. I’m so glad that they took advantage of it.

The second time I tried to pay more attention to the details of the ride. It is so pretty with all of the rock work, and what an amazing view from the top! I enjoyed it even more this time. Todd and I ended up on the same train again, so we walked out and found my mom & Dylan. He was still playing on the stairs and he had made some friends with other kids. It is so fun to watch him socialize with others and he tried so hard to communicate with them (since he had such a limited vocabulary).

ry%3D480

As we were getting ready to go I realized that I have left my sunglasses on the train. I went to the Lost & Found but they did not have them. The lady asked where I was sitting on the train and luckily I remembered the row number. She went out to tell the people who were loading the train and said they were looking for them. About 10 minutes later they found them! I was so relieved because I was already picturing myself having to shop for some tacky sunglasses (like Todd had to) to get me through the rest of our trip.

We decided to not come back to use our FP since we had already ridden it twice, so my dad gave the 4 passes to a family that was getting ready to get in line. He said they looked at him like he was nuts, then instantly became grateful. I love surprising people with FP. So much fun to see their reaction.

We walked over to the Safari ride. On the way there, I tried to take pictures of all of the things that I’d never noticed before. I don’t think it is possible to take a bad picture of this park. You really do feel like you are in another world.

ry%3D480

I remembered reading about this sculpture on someone else’s TR, and I had to take a picture myself. The sculpture is designed in the same outline as EE. So you look at it one way and it looks like this.

ry%3D480

You take a couple of steps to the left and it looks like this.

ry%3D480

The top points completely match up!! Who comes up with this stuff? Seriously. I could never be that creative. Thank goodness someone else is, because I really appreciate all of the thought that goes into it.

We saw Turk standing to the side and no one was visiting with him, so we walked over. Dylan was a little nervous because he had no idea who Turk was, but Todd held him the whole time and by the end he had warmed up quite a bit.

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

We got to the Safari at 10:20 and the FP return time was 10:55. Todd and dad went to get the FP but it was denying them because our old passes at EE were for 10:30 and that time had not passed yet. Todd talked to a CM and explained what had happened at EE and how we had given the passes to someone else to use. The person asked how many we needed and he told him 4. The CM gave us all 4 passes and the time was for that very moment! That was such a nice thing for them to do. I guess we had good karma from sharing our other passes!

We got in line with the FP and we only waited about 10 minutes at the most! We were on a jeep in no time. We had a much better driver than the last time we had ridden earlier in the trip. We rode along at a good speed and the driver was very informative. He was not trying for any humor, but he had a good, conversational way that he talked and we learned a lot on that trip. We were able to take a lot of pictures but it didn’t seem like there were a lot of animals out this time. Not sure if it was the heat, but they all seemed to be hiding somewhere.

More AK to come!

Glad EE was worth the waiting till so late in the trip
to ride. Now, with the intense summer fl heat, don't
you think AK is the hottest park? To me it is unbearable
in the summer. Still really enjoying the TR and anxiously
awaiting to hear what celeb you saw!!:goodvibes

Aw, I kind of like that warthog!

VERY cool about the SRL on EE...I need to remember that as an option. I cannot believe you were able to get your sunglasses back, that's amazing!

AK is definitely the hottest park to me. The first day that we went to AK stands out in my mind as the hottest day of our whole trip. Someone said they thought that all of the plants hold in all of the moisture and make it much more humid. :confused3 Makes sense to me.

EE was definitely worth the wait. My celebrity sighting happens on this day. Not sure if it will make the next update, but definitely the one after that. :thumbsup2

I think the warthog is kinda cute, in a very ugly way.

I never thought to ride the SRL before because I like to ride with Todd. After we had such good success this time, we have used it other times and it is really not a big deal to ride with a stranger. You still get to stand together in line while you are waiting. I can't believe I got my glasses back either! I just happened to look down at my feet while waiting to get on the train, and that is why I remembered what row I was in. VERY lucky!
