would this qualify as a carry on size bag that could fit in the overhead bin? We have 2 suitcases this size and since we are planning on taking a kind of quick trip we want to stick to bringing these and leaving the larger ones home. We will either be flying JetBlue or Southwest, I couldnt really find anything on their sites. Any ideas? Thanks

You mean 8" wide or 8" deep?

Either way they aren't going to fit "wheels in" in a lot over overheads, so you might get stuck gate checking them.

I would say 8" deep. But I see what you mean with the wheels and all. ;) Thanks!

JetBlue carry on requirements

I have bad news for you. With the ridicously LARGE carry on sizes that JetBlue recently introduced, the bins will fill very quickly, and you may be forced to gate check your bags.

Earlier today I was on a United flight from IAD. The flight was only 1/2 full, but the gate agent made an announcement before the flight that she saw 'a lot' of carry ons in the gate area (21 inch, but well stuffed). She advised that those with larger carry ons would most likely need to gate check them. This caused quite a stir from the Spring Break crowd, but frankly I think that it was a reasonable announcement. Even on a flight only 1/2 full, all the bin space was full.

My bag is 22 inches and we always carry it on. It actually fits in up and down (East and West) to save room for others. Most people put their bags in side to side (North and South if the front of the plane is North).

We have only had a problem once. With more people checking bags, I think you will be ok.
