As told by a dvc owner that I would have a $95 transportation fee at check in, does anyone know about this?

If it's a reservation at a DVC Resort using DVC Points, there are no fees paid to the resort with the exception of Aulani which has a tourist tax.

DVC Points used for non-DVC reservations have a $95 fee paid when the reservation is made.

You have rented a reservation?

I'm going to assume that you've rented a reservation that an RCI owner has traded into the DVC system. Hence the $95 fee (which isn't for transportation).

Sadly, this is totally not allowed by RCI/DVC, and if RCI or DVC figures it out, the reservation will be cancelled. And you will have no recourse.

If you haven't booked this, don't book it. If you have...contact them.

Thanks for all the information, at least I've given no information and can walk away cleanly.

If this "owner" contacted you through our Rent/Trade board, or though the DISBoards PM/email system please let a DVC Rent/Trade Board moderator or WebmasterDoc know ASAP.

It's an exchange and it's against RCI's rules. The reservation could be canceled unilaterally by RCI at any point.

Wouldn't it be legal if the RCI member purchased a Guest Certificate? Maybe most don't actually do that, but I thought those certificates made it OK.

Just curious now. We are RCI members who traded into DVC (BWV) and when I completed the exchange my confirmation email says I will have to pay a $95 fee at check-in. OP perhaps this is what you are referring to? :confused3 It is separate from a $59 guest certificate charge.

Yes, that's what they are talking about. Exchanges can't be sold/rented per RCI's rules notwithstanding CarolMN's question above, because I don't personally know how the guest thing works).

The guest certificate allows an RCI member to give a vacation to someone for $59. You are correct they are not supposed to be sold.

No, rentals are against RCI's rules. They will semi official allow one to recoup the exchange fee and guest cert fee but no more. II isn't that forgiving but not currently available with DVC.

The $95 fee is payable to DVC and is essentially a "because we can" fee. It's called a resort services fee but it doesn't add anything that a DVC member wouldn't have had they just reserved and not exchanged and it doesn't add anything to the exchange party they couldn't do on their own. But it's still cheaper to pay in and pay the fee than other methods of staying at DVC.

It wasn't on these boards. I just knew to come here for the right answers. It was through red week.com. Thanks for all the info.
It's kinda disheartening, I've been skeptical to go with a dvc rental and the first person I try through seems to be shady. ;(

A 'safe' way to rent is through one of the brokers, David's or the Timeshare Store (both who advertise here). They hold at least part of your money in escrow until check in to ensure your reservations aren't messed up. We rented with them before buying and were quite satisfied with the service--they are a go-between between you and the renter. They have a reputation on the line. We ended up paying about $.50 more a point going with them but we weren't at all concerned we'd arrive with no reservation.
