I would find a thrift shop that uses it's profits for good that you agree with and donate them there.

We donate to our church thrift shop. They are pretty good about the toys.

The other thing--what if she had a yard sale and used the money to buy a new gift for a toy drive.

Too cold for a yard sale up here in the northeast now, but that's a great idea for next year!! Just do the weeding out earlier in the year.. :)

How about freecycle.org? You could sign up for a local group. I use this all the time to give away stuff. It's easy, and there are a lot of people in need that use it.

I've donated used toys to our local YMCA. They run a daycare for low income parents.

church nursery
health club child care center
day care center

Ask all your local churches. I'm sure at least one of them will take them and give them to a needy child. You could also find one ot those resale stores which specializes in baby and kids funiture and clothes.

Try your local daycare centre or the local hospital - they're always looking for toys.

another thing, contact your local home makers clubs, some of those do toy drives, fire deptments and police stations often use teddy bears etc...

i'm sure there is an organization some where that will gladly take them and make sure they get where they belong.

I donate most everything to the Hospice thrift store, they sell them but I don't think their prices are high like the Salvation Army or Goodwill and I know what wonderful things they did for my mother so like to help them whenever I can. You may also want to try a womans shelter in your area that houses moms and kids.

We're giving all the board games that didn't sell at our yard sale to our local Salvation Army, specifically for their Kids Cafe. Kids Cafe is a place where I volunteered during high school. It's open 4 afternoons/evenings a week, and the inner city kids go there for a warm dinner. After dinner they have activities, and they have a board game room, so we're donating to there. You can see if there's some program like this that you could give too. Daycares also like to get toys.

Schools are always looking for toys for their younger grades. With so many children playing with the school toys they get broken or misplaced and school budgets do not always allow for "toys" although they can be a great learning tool. Sometimes we barely have enough in our school budgets for textbooks, not to mention toys .... please consider them too ...

I was going to suggest a woman's shelter as well. In fact that reminds me, I need to drop off my old cell phone, batteries and charger to its business office.

What other items are needed/accepted at women's shelters?

I tried to donate lightly used toys to my local hospital and they would not take them due to health reasons. these were definitly clean toys but they were afraid of toomany children playing with them and getting sick from passing toys from person to person.

In the past my high school would do drives for personal toiletries for them. I'd assume pretty much anything from clothes, to toiletries, would be accepted. We usually drop our phones off at Verizon, and they program them there before sending them to the shelters.
