Layne Staley had a great vocal instrument. Alice in Chains and Mad Season were something special. Loved the Staley/Cantrell contributions. Chris Cornell in Soundgarden captured me as well. His vocals in "Ugly Truth" and "Hands All Over" were something I have never heard before. That gentleman "ROCKED". And he has kept it up with Audioslave. Which brings me to my next 90's band, "Rage Against The Machine". Zach and "Bulls on Parade"....wow!!
As far as "alternative" was concerned, Morrissey, The Smiths, The Replacements, Paul Westerberg (lyrics - Love Untold) were outstanding. I also loved Toad The Wet Sprocket and Frankie Black.
Now, you can give me Disturbed, Godsmack, Breaking Benjamin and P.O.D. And don't forget the greatest "unfamous" band of this generation, Kings X.
And as posted by Ducklite:That said, there's plenty of other great music out there. New releases by Three Days Grace, KoRn, Breaking Benjamin, Halestorm, Seether, and P.O.D. have all earned 4.5 or 5 stars from me in the past six months, and I expect that several other not yet released CD's I'm waiting on review copies of will earn the same grades.
Check out the band "More" form New York. Some of their tunes can't be forgotten.
