We are going in July for 9 days and have 9 day park hopper passes booked for the four of us. We may go back in December to a conference, can we upgrade two of the tickets to annual passes when we get there? If so, do we just pay the difference? How difficult would it be? Thanks, Steve
You can upgrade just two of your tickets. From what you wrote, I assume your tickets were booked together with a Disney resort stay to create a resort package reservation? It's always best to upgrade tickets after using them at least once to enter a park. Resort package tickets that are used first are given current gate price value in calculating the cost of upgrading. There was a price increase on Feb 22, 2015. If your resort package was booked before that day, and you upgraded your tickets
before entering a theme park, you would owe the ticket increase in the upgrade transaction. However, using the tickets first automatically elevates their worth to current gate price.
If you booked your tickets separately from your resort stay, from Disney online, you will have to pay any ticket price increase no matter if you use your tickets first.
Assuming you use your tickets first, and they are given current gate price value, an Adult 9-day PH ticket is worth $446.24. An Adult Annual Pass is $696.51. Difference you will owe is $250.27. Your AP will be dated the first day you used your original tickets and expire on the same date in one year. That covers the fact that you were given full price for these tickets towards your upgrade. Your upgrade can be done at a park Guest Relations (inside and outside the front gate of each park), at DTD Guest Relations, or any theme park ticket booth. Very easy procedure. Be sure to have ID for each person who is upgrading.
