Hi,

We just found out that we're getting gifts for all of our nieces and nephews...yippee skippy! Anyway, I have nephews who are 9 and 7 and have no idea what I can get for boys that age without breaking the bank. The seven year old is very studious and likes puzzles, science, reading, etc. If anyone knows of any good magazine subscriptions that would be great for that age, please let me know. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. I'd love to keep the cost @ 15.00 but I'm sure I have to go at least $20 or more. Any ideas, no matter what cost, would be welcome. Thanks

You can try biocolies-sp?? Very popular with boys who like to put things together. Or a model car, airplaine, dinosaur that they can put together and paint.

Drawing a blank on magazines for now -- check out the library under the children's magazines and peruse and then, if interested, get the subscription for it.

I get my nieces (10 and 7) RANGER RICK and NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICS FOR KIDS subscriptions. They too are book worms. There's also HIGHLIGHTs for children. Good luck!

Michaels carries lots of hobby kits, and they have a 40% off one item coupon running this week-you could get a couple of nice kits with the savings you'de reap off the coupon.

bionicles is a great idea. My mom got them for ds5 and dn9 for christmas (we celebrated early last weekend) and they both loved them!

National Geographic for kids is great, my DS7 loves it! My other son (ds9) loves Sports illustrated for kids. Another inexpensive but wanted toy this year are Fly Wheels. You can get 1 wheel & pull set for about $7-8.

I think the above poster means "Bionicles" which I agree is a good gift for both the 7 and 9 year old. Bionicles are creatures that the kids put together like a puzzle and are made by Lego -- they are in the $10 range for each figure. Here's one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t.../104-1347773-5487119?v=glance&s=toys&n=507846

I also agree with the recommendations of Highlights and National Geographic for Kids for magazines.

If the boys are into computers, you may also want to look at some age-appropriate computer games. Both my husband and son love the Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver and Stunt Track Driver II games for the PC. The cars are scaled to the same scale as actual Hot Wheels and there is no violence in the game. Players can earn new tracks and cars by successfully completing old tracks before time runs out. Excellent games for boys. (DH found these two games bundled together for $10.)

You might also want to look at the "I Spy" computer games which use riddles, puzzles and mind games to solve adventure-type games. Here's a link to one: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...-1347773-5487119?v=glance&s=software&n=229534

My 8 year old DS likes Bionicles as well. Those Fly Wheels things are very popular right now and not too expensive as we have given those to several kids as birthday gifts. If they like Star Wars or anything like that, there are always action figures, etc.
