9-4-21 Currently being evacuated from Tom Sawyer Island

When you just focus on the little girl in the middle, covering her ears and then her mouth, it breaks your heart to see what their children are being taught, I hope they were all banned from returning.

I read that this happened at the end of the night.

It is not good for the MK to now close with the fireworks. Not sure what Disney is thinking, but they’ve always known this was a poor exit strategy due to transportation. Now tensions flaring with tired (and traumatized) families herded out at once only to wait more. MK really needs to go back to closing the park later past fireworks.

OK, I took the post down. I hope everybody involved was dealt with quickly and it doesn't happen again.

I heard it was a 17 year old kid who stole a toy hatchet from one of the stores and was hiding in caves scaring people.

Yeah, no, Disney doesn’t get the blame for trashy people fighting with each other. This is all on the people who are willing to act like uncivilized idiots.

So what do you suggest be done to curtail “trashy, uncivilized idiots” from hurting and traumatizing children during an unsafe exit strategy?

I don't thinkk that "trashy, uncivilized idiots" can be curtailed; but much can be done to lessen the likelihood of people becoming stressed to the level where they become less civilized. As the PP suggested, having options so that not everyone is trying to exit the park at the exact same post-fireworks time would be a good start.
Unfortunately as the cost of a disney vacation significantly rises, I expect this to get worse. More and more families are having to save up longer and harder to afford a disney vacation. For many this is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime trip, so the pressure for a "perfect" trip is correspondingly higher. I believe the recent price spikes lead to spikes in expectations and then the melt-down behaviors we're starting to see when expectations are continually unmet. Sure, expectations are not met for all of us everyday; but how often are they so poorly met when we've paid so very much for the priviledge. I hope that soon there will be more to effectively spread crowds out and provide varying entertainments in different areas of the parks. The vast majority of guests wanting the same thing at the same time is a recipe for melt-down behaviors.

Agreed.

I was not blaming Disney for adults and children assaulting one another. Absolutely absurd.

Families deserve to be safe; children deserve to be safe. Guests should not be locking arms and defending themselves in bottlenecked crowds. I know years of expertise went into facilitating MK closures and perhaps it’s time to revisit orderly and properly. NOT saying guests won’t fight, but it’s worth a try in helping ease some of these issues and tensions.

Saw this shared in a group ...

That’s awful. My family of four was verbally abused at Narcoosee’s by an English family who took exception to my group speaking in Welsh to each other. It was just after Storm Dorian and restaurants were very quiet so that only three groups were on the balcony watching the fireworks. An English group of three chose a place at the railing and my adult daughter and her friend sat with me on a bench. The girls were talking quietly between themselves and suddenly the matriarch of the English group came over, admonished them for talking during the fireworks and very rudely told them to ‘shut …. up’. I had a bad feeling about these people, and when the fireworks were over, I held my group back to allow the English group to re enter the restaurant before us. However, as we re entered the restaurant, the adult daughter of the English group started shouting abuse at us for speaking in Welsh. She used some very choice Angle-Saxon words. I politely suggested that she return to her table and she became even more angry. My group sat down and then the patriarch of the English group came towards our table, with his fists raised, ranting about Welsh people. My young adult son, was concerned about the girls’ safety and stood up and walked the man to one side to try to calm him, while I asked the barman, Sergio, to get some help. Eventually security came over and walked the man back to his table. Sergio brought my son a complimentary double whisky and congratulated him on how well he had managed the situation. We later saw a well dressed lady go over and talk to the English group, perhaps the manager of the restaurant. There was no rhyme or reason to the attack and we can only think that they were attempting to cause an incident in order to try to obtain a free dinner. They are some weird people out there .

I don't think Disney can cure the over abundance of trashy, uncivilized idiots. These kinds of incidences get a lot of press ( as they should) but in reality, they are rare. I don't think it's a problem that needs to be addressed other than to make sure that when it does happen, the penalties are consistent, swift and severe.

I've yet to figure out why people insist on rushing out at closing only to stand in a massive crowd outside the park when they can just as easily sit down on a bench and relax for half an hour until things become more manageable. You aren't forced to be in that sea of people so the cure is just don't be. A little bit of common sense would go a long way.

Maybe it’s time to bring back the DJ

This. I've been going to Disney now for 40 years and it's always been a mass of people exiting MK and heading for the monorail and steamboat. This is nothing new. I totally agree that I don't understand why people have to get in the huge crowds walking down main street and then stay in it all the way to the transportation options. Stop in the shops for a while, sit on a bench and relax, nobody is forcing you out of the park right at 9pm.

In one way I agree with you: Disney can't be responsible for the horrible behavior that is running rampant in our country right now. But at the same time, they are arguably among the most creative and inventive people in the world. Surely they could implement some strategies to help with poor behavior.

On a lesser level, I saw rude behavior at California Adventure on Sunday that stunned me, from line jumping in virtually every line we entered, to cursing loudly with little children everywhere to hear it, to people making out on the sidewalk. It was a very, very hot day, so I know that doesn't help. But it was also an extremely frustrating day, with incredibly long waits for food and no empty tables to sit and eat it (because most tables were filled with people with no food holding them for people who were hovering around the mobile order lines because their food wasn't ready). Looking around the sea of people while I was eating lunch, literally NOT ONE person was smiling. NOT ONE. If that would have been my only visit to a Disney park, I would have said, "Never again."

I do think behavior is getting worse everywhere right now, from road rage to air rage, and I think Disney could respond to the situation more proactively than they are.

Well, the only positive (?) thing i got out of that disturbing story is that “trashy, uncivilized idiots” exist in other countries too.
