9/23/06 Let's go!!!! Who's with us???

Hi Everyone,
I am new here and really haven't read too many of the posts but I am excited to "meet" you fellow cruisers beofre we go!

We are from Colorado and there are 3 of us sialing. My husband, and my son (he's 11) and me!

I do have a question. How do I get these great smiles into the thread?

Hope to "meet" you all soon.

Paula in Colorado

I'd laugh if that post were not mostly true. Locals just gird up and deal with summers around here. We get our revenge though in October through April when we are mostly moderate. If we do get cold (it can get below freezing on occasion) it warms up in a matter of hours. We enjoy 60's-70's generally for our winters with blue skies and cool breezes. That is when living in Texas is magnificent and we laugh at the snowbound north. (and I can laugh as I am an Ohio transplant)

While we do feel for all of the rest of the country for the extreme heat, we wallow in self pity knowing that a cold front won't see our parts for another two months!

Scott, my mother and father in law spend half the year in Texas. I'm sure you can guess which half.

Greetings, Paula. I have an 11 year old son, too. Did you figure out the smilies yet? Have you clicked on the ones on the right of the posting window?

Hello all! I am new here and have learned so much about DCL from this board.

We just booked our first Disney cruise. DH and I have been on two CCL cruises and this is our daughter's first cruise.

We currently live in Tampa, FL and are originally from New Orleans.

My daughter just turned 9 and so far, hasn't seemed overly excited about the cruise. I am surprised but I think she doesn't really know what to expect and is maybe a little apprehensive.

As this is a long thread, it took me a long time to read it all, but have enjoyed meeting you all.

Kim

Just a quick post. Hope everyone is staying cool.

Is anyone staying at the Hyatt at the airport on Sept 22nd and if so did you get a good deal? Plus who are you using a a car service?
TIA

Welcome to the thread, Kim. You actually read the whole thread? That's what I call doing your homework.

From what I've heard about CCL, I'm not surprised your daughter isn't overly excited. It doesn't sound like they have an awful lot to please little kids. She's going to have a wonderful surprise seven weeks from now!

Peggy,

Our original plan was to stay near the Airport then take the DCL buses to the port. But, the Hyatt was too much at $199 a night for us. So I chucked the original plan - for $110 a night(including taxes), we are staying at Port Orleans Resort near Downtown Disney and am renting a car for under $30 a day. This way we can hit the road on Saturday at our own discretion. We will also be renting a car for the trip back, so that we can do our own thing before having to fly back home.

:dance3:

Sounds like a plan. Renting a car seems to be the way to go for a lot of us. Last February, we went to Florida to see my mom. It was much cheaper to rent a car to get around than rely on shuttles or taxis, etc. We're taking the Auto Train down this time, so it's not an issue.

Less than 7 weeks to go! I'm so excited. :bounce:

Welcome aboard Kim.

We have tentative plans to stay at the airport Hyatt. We have gift certificates for $125 there, so the $200 rate is not as steep if we do stay there. We however are considering staying at the Hyatt near Downtown Disney instead and renting a car. We have to go to DD for a silhouette (we've done one each year of our daughter, so being close, we want to get the next step of her growth) and just to get into the Disney mood. The bus service from the airport is terrific, but as others are indicating a car rental is really a bit cheaper. The payoff is the luggage handling I guess that is managed for you with the bus service.

I really wish I had time to go back and read all 38 pages! I keep telling myself next weekend and another weekend passed by -- there's always next weekend, but then I want to make those door signs as well!

We are getting excited now that we can say next month we're going on our cruise. I came home from work today and the first thing out of my DS11's mouth was "I can't believe we're going next month!".

What he doesn't know is that we're staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge the night before -- he's been really wanting to stay there ever since we ate at Boma's a couple of years ago. We're more moderate resort budget, but at $135 per night we couldn't pass it up.

He also doesn't know we're going to MNSSHP the night before. We've told all three boys that we can't go to a park this time. They think we're staying at Pop Century and will be spending some time in the pool the night before.

My parents are also joining us and I can't tell who's more excited, them or the kids (or is it us!).

I look forward to getting most of this thread read before next month. It really helps pass the time just keeping up with the daily entries.

sftnslky,

I don't know if you've got your question answered about the beepers/pajama party but we had three boys last year (at the time 10, 8 and 3) so they were all in a different club/lab. The little one had a pajama party, but we had to pick him up at the same time. He enjoyed it and was "mad" when we picked him up as he thought he was really going to get to spend the night.

I don't remember the older two having such an event. If they did, they did not participate. Usually at night they'd go up to the sports area and play games on deck 9, spend time in the lab or even see a movie in the theater.

WIth respect to pagers, yes we left the boat without the kids at both Cozumel and Key West. No problems either time but we didn't stay gone long (actually my Dad and I were gone a while at Cozumel but my wife and mom were only off the ship for about an hour). We trust our kids, but are nervous about letting them have their own check-in/out priviledges. After reading this thread, I would definitely not allow them their own check-out while we are in port.

Also, if you have AAA, the Hyatt is offering a rate of $179 for the 22nd at the Hyatt which makes it even a bit chaeaper.

We are Peggy. As I indicated in my post above we secured a rate of $179 with our AAA membership. Every little bit helps, right? :thumbsup2

I don't know if anyone else was trying to make reservations for the Dolphin Encounter but I was really bummed when all the reservations were gone at the 75 day mark. Well apparently. DCL held them back because they were in transition between Cancun and Cozumel and they are now allowing bookings for Dolphin Discovery in Cozumel beginning on August 30. Sure enough, it was available to me on my reservations window. :cool1: We are officially booked for 8:30 am on September 27. I can't wait! :cheer2:

 Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you have stayed at the new Nickeldon hotel in Orlando FL? It looks AWSOME ::yes:: and they have some great rates for September :thumbsup2 . Our cruise is on Sept 23rd, we will be flying in on Sept 21 in the evening and will be staying in FL the whole day of the 22nd...We orginally thought about staying at Ron Johns, but this one is MUCH cheaper :woohoo: for the two bedroom suite... over $100 cheaper and it has a SPONGE BOB themed room :lmao: and the water slides and nick zone area are very cool. :teeth:

Would love to hear any feedback good or bad. ;) Have a great Wednesday pixiedust:

Peggy- Thanks for your kind words and thoughts about my FIL. We are hoping things turn out like they have for your DH :goodvibes

Monica - LOL about the Texas heat. My relatives are having it nearly as hot in Eastern WA. No one would come visit me this summer in Hawaii because "why go to Hawaii in the summer? We will visit you when it is cold here". We have had a comfortable summer so far, about 88 every day. Sunny nearly everyday with a little rain here and there so I don't have to water the grass. They have had such hot days followed by a few cold ones (60's) and then back into the 100's. I think summer is a great time to come to Hawaii.

We are supposed to have two more years here but with the military you never know. I am only counting on one more year. I really really don't want to move away :guilty: .

:welcome: Paula and Kim! I can't believe you read the entire thread, Kim! WTG :thumbsup2 , you probably have everyone straight better than me. I have a bit of trouble keeping everyone's names correct.

It feels so weird to be saying, "next month, on the cruise......" :bitelip: . I'm not quite ready for our trip yet. So much to get done here at home first. The first leg of our vacation will be to see family/friends in WA, then the cruise, then WDW for a week. It WILL be great but also hard to be away from home for an entire month. I've got to make sure I have packed for the different stages of the trip and have it all fit into our suitcases and then into a rental car.

I was looking into prices on the Universal Horror Nights tickets. I can't see how to get it cheaper than $59 for Sat. night 9/30. I don't really want to go but it is the big reason why my DH even agreed to the cruise. Just looking at the promo adds for the thing makes my tummy hurt. At least the kids will be happy back at the resort with Grandma that night. They may use the pool or relax in front of the TV. They will have tons of energy for their first day to a Disney park the next morning and we will look like what the cat dragged in :cat: .

Never stayed there, but a friend did. She only did it for the Dora character breakfast for her daughter. She was glad to get back on-site to a Disney hotel.

Using the mousesavers code, you can get excellent rates for a hotel on-site with Disney on the 21st and 22nd. We're at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for $135 a night. The moderates are only $99 per night.

Hi, guys. I just wanted to say hi and see my trip ticker. LOL. I have 60 more pounds of peaches to can tonight so there will be no hanging around the Disboard for me.

:wave2:

Hello to everyone new. Sure are a lot of us on the boards going on this cruise!

We are staying at the airport hyatt... did not get a good deal :sad2: But our flight gets in late and we wanted as short a trip to bed as possible so we can be well rested for the next morning! :cheer2: So I really can't complain.

Our journey towards the cruise will be starting very soon. Everything we own will be packed up next week to be sent to our next duty station. We will say so long to Alaska and take a "mini cruise" out of this awsome state on the Alaskan Ferry. :rotfl: Then lots of stops along the way to visit various family.... and then the icing on the cake when we get to the Magic!

Really getting excited! I hope everyone's plans go well and we will all soon be having a wonderful time sailing with the mouse! :wizard:
