9/23/06 Let's go!!!! Who's with us???

Welcome to the thread Randall's mom! We rebooked on our first cruise back in April of last year, and it seems like forever ago. Our youngest had just turned four when we sailed last year. Here's a picture of her telling our waiter.

Just checking in. Have not been on for awhile. Granddaughter and her sil are geting more excited the closer the cruise comes. Cruise number 1 for them, number 5 for the wife and I.

Any cabin on a Disney cruise is a good cabin. DW and I have been on deck 6 all five times. Cabin 6624 3 times. 6640 once and 6641 once. Granddaughter is in 6633. Hope to see all of you in about 8 and 1/2 weeks.

Welcome to the boards Randalls Mom!

I see that you are from the Eastern Coast of NC. Would that be the Eastern Shore area? We live in Virginia Beach - Just a hop, skip and jump to the Eastern Shore:)

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the invites. This is our third cruise on DCL.
We (myself, DH, DS16, DD12, and DS6) will be sail on the 23rd too. We were suppose to sail last Sept but had to postpone due to DH becoming every ill. He recieved a heart transplant, doing well and ready to go! The doctors just recently gave us the okay. We are from east TN. I guess I need to go through and read and get caught up.

I'm glad you found us Peggy. Now's a great time to get caught up on this thread. It's way too hot out to do anything but read the Disboard. ;) Just kidding. We went to the beach yesterday and while we were gone not one of the items on my "to do" did themselves. So, it's back to the housework.

Eight weeks from right now.....

Hi! We live halfway between Wilmington, NC & Myrtle Beach, SC. We actually go to Myrtle Beach every weekend to shop or go out to eat. Would you believe that we live on the coast, but it seems like the only time we go to the beach is when we go to Cocoa Beach, FL and the Disney Cruise. Most people don't realize that when you live at the beach, you also work at the beach. We are counting the days until we set sail. Hope everyone is surviving the heat........Talk to you later. :dance3:

I see new faces to this thread :thumbsup2 ! Welcome everyone.

Peggy - It is good for me to read about your DH's heart transplant. My FIL was just recently diagnosed with sudden onset Giant Cell Myocarditis which has destroyed his heart. Just a year ago he was told he had the heart of a young man. He has had two open heart surgeries already, to put in pumps ect. They have to get rid of the disease and then he can have the transplant surgery.

We just got back Friday night from spending the week with him in Denver CO. Exhausting trip, over 7 hrs flight each way, 4 hrs time difference. It was good for my DH to spend time with him and for the kids to see him.

I'm so glad that things worked out well for your DH and that you are planning to cruise :sunny:

Weather is still pleasant here. I don't remember exactly when it got too hot last year. I do know that by Sept. the breeze had stopped and it felt hot and muggy. It started feeling good again in Nov. We don't have air con. so we are dependent on the ocean breeze.

Hi everyone!!!!! :wave2:

Things have been so crazy here. Anyone else tired of buying school supplies?
And I am going back to work! I've been staying home with my nephew for the past 18 months, but an old friend called with a job offer. I'll be working in the office of my old high school. It's going to be so wierd, but I'm very excited! :cheer2:

I've been working on my door signs and will post a picture of them when I'm done. I can't believe how close we're getting!

Welcome to all the new "faces".

Hi All,

I will also be sailing on the 23rd with my DH and DD (7). It will be our first disney cruise and DDs first ever cruise. We are really looking forward to it. We haven't told DD yet, we don't want to hear about it for the next two months! I think that she'll like the surprise though.

:welcome: & glad you found us.... DH abd I are bringing our two youngest girls... Macy is 7 and Jennah just turned 10 the other day. They both have been on one cruise before.... but the "fun" ship was not fun for them.... very long and sad story...so we are SOOOOOO hoping that this cruise will be much diffrent and much better for them and for us.

We also have not told them that we are going...they know that their two aunts, one uncle and two cusions are going [both are girls ages 5 and 13] but they don't know that we will be going..and they think that they are all going in November.

We have a time share and we told them that we might fly down to FL and stay at Ron Johns for a small vacation in late September..lol that way we can "explain" the flight and hotel. :rotfl2:

Well the plumber is due any second..so I should go...but welcome again.

:thumbsup2 :Pinkbounc :cheer2: We finally broke our EXTREME heat wave... We have 13 straight days of temps over 100 degrees and 9 of them were temps over 110+...with the hotest day being 116. California has had a total [so far] of 164 confirmed deaths due to the heat... They still have bodies stack up in the morgue they have to figure out how they passed away. One of the nursing homes in our town...their AC went out for two days...and they had people literally sweating to death. :( They sent 5 of them to the hospital..and 160 were transfered to other homes...and out of the 5 two of them passed away. :sad2: There have been MASSIVE cattle lost due to the heat as well....our neighbor lost his dog..he kept him outside while he worked...thinking that a bowl of water and a dog house would help him...very sad.

We were runing our AC 24/7 at 70 degrees..but since it was SOOO hot the AC could'nt keep up and would only be able to cool our home down to 80 degrees or so.... We lost total power twice during the wave...once for 7 hours and once for 4...it SUCKED I feel HORRIBLE for the homeless or older folks who can't/won't run any fans for AC :guilty: The past two days have been HEAVENLY...only in the high 80's and today should be in the low 90's

Well, enough of the sad talk. I can't believe that we have less then 2 months to go... :cheer2: :cheer2: and this next month is going to fly with getting kids ready for back to school... :teacher: and DH and I have our yearly worship arts retreat this weekend..we leave :drive: Friday afternoon. We are signing up our tiwns for soccer when we get back...they should LOVE it..they have been chomping at the bit to play sports..but they had to wait till they turned 5 :thumbsup2 Have an awsome Tuesday everone...Much ::MinnieMo & ::MickeyMo love.

Lol, that is exactly what we are going to do! I also have had plumbing problems this week, and we had our big chest freezer overheat and break due to the extreme heat (We kept it in our garage.) Luckily I found it before we lost all of our food. Our heat wave is still going strong, I am so thankful to have AC!

 Hi everyone.... Here is [probably] a stupid question, but are we allowed to leave the children in the kids club while we go into :moped: town/port? If so are the fully supervised, and how would they contact us in case of an extreme emergency?

And sorta off topic, but along the same lines... Do they have any type of sleep over for the kids? On Carnival they had what they called a PJ party..and they "watched" the kids party party: from 10pm till 3am....BUT they charged for it.. :confused3 and it WAS NOT CHEAP... anything along the same lines? Just wondering if Mom & Dad will have any night alone time

Thanks in advance for any advise. Much ::MinnieMo & ::MickeyMo Love.

Tired of buying school supplies? No, but then I haven't started. Congratulations on the new job! Are you going to be a school secretary? I think that would be a very interesting job. I wouldn't mind doing that when I'm done homeschooling my children. I better learn Spanish first.

Welcome datsyukchick! I'm glad you found our thread. Keeping a secret for 2 months should be a piece of cake. NOT. We rebooked on our last cruise, 18 months out. We were supposed to sail in October, but a very dear friend of ours announced his wedding date for the same day we'd be cruising, so we changed dates. There was no way we were going to keep this trip a secret for a year and a half. I think we told the kids about 4 months ago. Then, we made a trip chain using the computer and my paper cutter. Each link has the date and how many days left on it. I think it's going to become a tradition.

Becca, I can't imagine what you're going through out there in California. We usually get our power outages in the winter. Last summer we had a few "bad" ones, but even the worst was only a few days in the area and a day and a half on our block. ( I think someone important must have a relative in our neighborhood. LOL )
We had a little respite from the heat, but we're back in the high 90/low 100's again. I don't know how my chickens are holding up so well. I don't know how much longer they can take it. We've been putting ice cubes in their waterers a few times a day.
Why is the plumber coming again? I thought the plumber had already been to your house.

We haven't even left for this cruise and dh and I are talking about taking one, just the two of us, next year. If DCL schedules a southern Caribbean next September, I want to do that itinerary.

That's not a stupid question at all. Those beepers we get from the Club may not have enough range for us to be reached if there was an emergency on board and the staff needed to reach a parent. As for supervision, there is constant and diligent supervision in the Club and Lab. I can't wait for you to see the Club and the Lab in person. After what you'd shared about the "fun" ship, I think you're going to really appreciate what DCL children's programs have to offer, not just in the facilities but the staff, too. They're attentive about safety, cleanliness, and order but they, at least the ones I've met or witnessed, seem like they connect with the kids well. Even though the boys will have sign out privileges while we're on the ship, if we go to Key West for a few hours, their signout privileges will be halted for that time.

I'm glad you brought this up because I hadn't thought about the sign out privileges in terms of when dh and I leave the ship.

I don't know anything about the sleepover/ pajama party.

I am no expert on the kids clubs, but my research tells me that yes, they do watch over the kids while we are in port. I understand the pagers have some range, but not nearly enough for most excursions I suspect. So, that becomes a call on your part as to how good you feel about leaving a child.

Yes, there is a Pajama party - details don't readily come to mind, but there is no cost I am fairly certain. I think I recall hearing some characters come to tuck them in to the sleeping bags, mats, etc... and then they have movies running to lull them to sleep.

Wow - your heat stories are worse than ours although ours remains. Our biggest concern - on top of the 100 dgeree temps that continue - is the lack of rain in north Texas. We are over 25 inches short from last year and no end in sight. Last year when the drought was beginning, we started hoping for hurricanes to head our way to bring relief. We were warned that Rita might come our way and we got excited. But as has been our luck, the storm blew east of us into Louisiana. The heat we can manage (although we hate it!), but the dryness is starting to cause severe rationing and shortfalls.

But as the rest of you indicate - keep an eye on the ball, so to speak, and count down to cruise time very shortly.

I can't imagine Temps of 110. In east Tennessee we have been in the high 90's (yesterday 98) and it seems unbearable.

strawberryblonde- I hate to hear that about your FIL. I know it is a hard road to travel. My DH's heart failure came on quickly and strong. We know he had inherited a condition, found out in 2000, we found his condition by accident. He didn't have any symptoms but he was under a doctors care and never had any problems. Then last July 4th life changed and in Dec. he was transplanted. He also had heart pumps call bi vad's (bi meaning 2 and vad meaning Ventricular Assistant Device). He was to sick to be transplanted. The bi vad's did there job in record time. :cheer2:
It is really a miracle that he is alive. We were suppose to go on a cruise last Sept. But was unable because of his illness. He had planned that cruise as his last chance to take our kids on vacation as a family, he kinda felt something was going to happen. Then he became sick right before finally payment was made so, it was postponed, he lived by the grace of God and now we are going to celebrate living. He is doing great and to look at him you would never know. :dance3: It kinda sounds like your FIL is following a similar road, sudden onset, pumps and waiting to get better to be transplanted. I will pray for everything to resolved quickly and for your FIL to have a health heart soon.

Is sounds like your FIL is getting the best of care and I am so happy to hear that.

Organ Donation & Transplants are a good thing.
The wonderful gift of giving keep our family complete.
I wish your family the best and will keep you in my thoughts.

I can't believe we are almost down to the 50 day mark :cool1: . I am so excited and ready to go. Still need to do some shopping.

Time will pass quicker with the kids going back to school and stuff.

Back to planning. :surfweb:

This is for Scott. Forgive me you've read it before. Forgive me if it offends anyone.

NEW TEXAN'S DIARY

May 30th:

Just moved to Dallas, Texas.
Now this is a city that knows how to live!!
Beautiful sunny days and warm balmy evenings. What a place!
I watched the sunset from a park lying on a blanket.
It was beautiful. I've finally found my home. I love it here.

June 14th:

Really heating up. Got to 100 today. Not a problem. Live in an
air-conditioned home, drive an air-conditioned car. What a pleasure
to see the sun everyday like this. I'm turning into a sun worshiper.

June 30th:

Had the backyard landscaped with western plants today. Lots of cactus
and rocks. What a breeze to maintain.
No more mowing lawn for me. Another scorcher today, but I love it here.

July 10th:

The temperature hasn't been below 100 all week. How do people get used
to this kind of heat? At least it's kind of windy though. But getting used to
the heat and humidity is taking longer that I expected.

July 15th:

Fell asleep by the pool. (Got 3rd degree burns over 60% of my body).
Missed 3 days of work What a dumb thing to do. I learned my lesson though.
Got to respect the ol' sun in a climate like this.

July 20th:

I missed Morgan (our cat) sneaking into the car when I left this
morning. By the time I got to the hot car for lunch, Morgan had died
and swollen up to the size of a shopping bag and stank up the $2,000 leather
upholstery. I told the kids that she ran away. The car now smells like
Kibbles and sh-ts. I learned my lesson though. No more pets in this heat.

July 25th:

The wind sucks.. It feels like a giant freaking blow dryer!! And it's
hot as hell. The home air-conditioner is not working and the AC repairman
charged $200 just to drive by and tell me he needed to order parts.

July 30th:

Been sleeping outside by the pool for 3 nights now. $1,500 in damn
house payments and we can't even go inside. Why did I ever come here?

Aug. 4th:

It's 115 degrees. Finally got the air-conditioner fixed today. It cost
$500 and gets the temperature down to 85, but this freaking humidity
makes the house feel like it's about 95. Stupid repairman. I hate this stupid city.

Aug. 8th:

If another wise *** asks, "Hot enough for you today?" I'm going to
strangle him. D-mn heat. By the time I get to work the radiator is boiling
over, my clothes are soaking wet, and I smell like baked cat!!

Aug. 9th:

Tried to run some errands after work. Wore shorts, and sat on the black
leather seats in the ol' car. I thought my butt was on fire. I lost 2 layers
of flesh and all the hair on the back of my legs and butt. Now my car smells
like burnt hair, fried backside, and baked cat.

Aug. 10th:

The weather report might as well be a darn recording. Hot and sunny.
Hot and sunny. Hot and sunny. It's been too hot to do squat for 2 damn
months and the weatherman says it might really warm up next week.
Doesn't it ever rain in this freakin desert? Water rationing now, so my
$1700 worth of cactus just dried up and blew into the darn pool.
Even the cactus can't live in this d-mn heat.

Aug. 14th:

Welcome to HELL!!! Temperature got to 115 today. Forgot to crack the
window and blew the d-mn windshield out of the car. The installer came
to fix it and said, "Hot enough for you today?" My wife had to spend the
$1500 house payment to bail me out of jail.

Freaking Texas. What kind of a sick demented idiot would want to live here...

OMG, Monica! That is too funny! :lmao: :rotfl2:

I've gotta copy it and send it to some of my Texas friends. It's pretty hot here in Florida, but not as bad as that.

:lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: OMG that line is hysterical.... it reminds me of a few weeks ago our church had its anual kids carnival...its a huge deal...5 bounce houses, 2 GIANT waterslides, petting zoo, face painting, carnival games, bbq lunch...etc... and since it was sooo hot I wore a light weight [aka very thin] skirt and shirt... and without thinking... FRIED BRAIN SYNDROM...and went to save a table for DH, me and kiddos... well...... I had my hands full of 4 plates full of bbq...and sat right down on a FRIGGEN METAL FOLDING CHAIR..that had been sitting in the :sunny: 112 degree heat for 4+ hours... to say I JUMPED up 4 feet into the air would be a huge understatement... LOL not only were the back of my theighs and my booty cheeks burned a BRIGHT red..but "something" in between the two  was ON FIRE!!!!!. :rotfl: :lmao:

Thank you for making my day... have a nice evening...much ::MinnieMo & ::MickeyMo love
