will there be any extra security or other events since we are coming in on the 3rd anniversary of sept 11??

Security was already fairly tight prior to 9/11/01 and has much tighter since. And it's tightened even mor every time the Homeland Security Threat Level is raised to Orange. My guess is that the Threat Level will be raised to Orange for the 3rd anniversary like it was during the 2nd anniversary. Their levels of security are such that you will be slightly inconvenienced, but you shouldn't feel any undue anxiety.
