9-08-2010 Pirates through the Mediterranean/ Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Us

Simba One, we stayed at the Boardwalk last Christmas season on our land and sea, and absolutely love love love it. We're probably going to stay again this Christmas season, so if your daughter is still there, we'll have to make sure to say Hi to her! (Not doing the land and sea, anything less that 7 days is just too short for me, I get all sad having to leave the ship so soon!)

So general question, are we all actually going to plan a meet or two? Maybe a timeframe on the first sea day or something? I've cruised, but just found the DIS before this cruise so I'm not sure about that part...

A meet and greet sounds great, just not on the morning of the 1st sea day, as my wife and I have reservations for the Exotic Rasul spa service, the first morning:woohoo:

Hi Everyone!!!
Well...it looks like they are starting to assign rooms. We just got ours last night! We were hoping for a better upgrade for the med portion (we are doing the back 2 back) however, they gave us the same room that we have for the TA. So the good news is that we don't have to change rooms between cruises which is nice. So, myself, my dh, my dd Megan(8) will be in room #6053 and my ds Jacob(12) along with my mom "g-ma Cathy" will be in room #6507. Good luck to everyone on their room assignments. I think they should all be done by this weekend, 45 days prior to sailing.

That's great that they're assigning rooms now! I just checked ours and we're still GTY, but I'll be looking for it even more now!:cool1: I'll also update the FE post to show the room numbers.

Yes, my daughter will still be at BoardWalk in Dec so I will give you her name when we meet. She works concierge evening shift almost every day so I am sure she has met many of you Dis'rs who stay there! We are totally up for a meet and greet the day at sea, so thanks again for all your welcomes and wonderful answers to my never ending questions! Can't wait to meet up in a month and a half!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

We were wondering if anyone was going to do Naples on their own or if everyone was booking an excursion? We thought about doing Pompei, but weren't too sure about the safety and directions of walking from the ship to the train station. Any thoughts???

I think my family is going to be doing private cooking lessons in Naples. We learned that doing this on our own is about half the price that Disney charges....

No clue about the distance to the train station, but I am sure it's not too far.

With the big day coming up soon, any suggestions on packing lists? Also, can someone shed some light on what exactly Disney's definition of cruise casual is for dinner. I.E. are Jeans acceptable.

I still can't believe that it is almost here!

Jeans are fine for cruise casual. There is a big variation between what people wear from very casual to smart. Disney says no shorts or flip flops. I tend to wear linen pants or smart jeans with a 'nice' top. There should be one formal night and one semi-formal I think - what people wear on these nights varies also from tux's to the not so smart! I have an evening dress for formal night and a less formal dress for semi-formal night.

Hope this helps! :)

some of the advice from some of the Magic crew and is just to take the train to pompei , not much in Naples to see according to them ...were still undecided if we want to get a driver or take the train ...:confused3

If the room assignment is the number on our reservation when I log in we have #8002! LOOKS GORGEOUS!

Even those rules are really guidelines, though-----some families don't really dress at all in my experience...and I have never seen anyone turned away from dinner.

Jason and I dress up every night for dinner.......although I do wear leather flip flops, even with my dress slacks and shirt and tie, to every meal except formal nights. In fact, usually the only "real" shoes I bring on cruises is my tux shoes! This trip we will bring sneakers, too, because we are doing some high activity level excursions on the WBTA (we're B2B), but I will still be wearing flip flops (and a different Disney themed tie) to every meal every night except formal and pirate night! :thumbsup2

Good to hear - I am still GTY - CAT 6. Hoping since I am doing the B2B that they will Upgrade me on the 14-day (from a Cat 10) and give me the same room for both as well.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. We are very excited to do our first Disney cruise and can hardly wait for September. I hope we get our cabin assignment soon. We booked the cat 12 cabin so hopefully we get an upgrade.

Renegade7,

I have emailed the company for Malta and gave them a list of sights we wish to see. The island is small and the driving distance between sights are not that long. We were able to see Mdina, Tarxiem Temple, Mosta, Hypogeum temple and Valletta last year with only a 5 hour stay in port.

We would like to visit the following sights: with pickup at cruise terminal waterfront at 8:30 am and drop off at 5:00 pm
Mdina & Rabat
Hagar Quim Temple
Dingli cliffs
Blue Grotto
Marsaxlokk
3 Cities: Cospicua, Vittoriosa, and Senglea (across from the Valletta harbor)

The company will provide us with a van that can seat up to 10 people and an English speaking driver for 130 Euros (that's per van not per person). I emailed them back to check on a car that can seat 4 if I can't get a bigger group. I will let you know when I hear back from them.

We would love to have you join us. If anyone is interested, please let us know.

Thuy (Twee)

Kimmy and I are definately in!

Sounds fun!!!

Hi Cali Cruiser, saw your post re; trains to Pompeii and found this link for you, hope it helps www.europeportreviews.com/Naples5.htmMarie :)

Marie...Thanks so much for the directions. These are a great help. I have already printed them out.

Thanks for the advice. We are undecided too! I know it would save money to do Pompeii on our own, but the DCL 1/2 day Pompeii looks good....and the Pompeii & Sorrento Value Package looks good too.
I was reading through the hundreds of TA pages and wanted to say Congratulations to you and your son on his graduation and thank him for his future service to our country. My husband was at Fort Benning too. (I think that's where you said that he would be). Also, good luck to all of you! You are very deserving of this vacation!!!

It sounds like they are trying to keep everyone in their same rooms. I guess it is less luggage for them to move. That would be awesome if you were upgraded from a 10 to a 6. You should find out soon. I think DCL said 45 days out, which should be Sunday?? Good luck!!!
Michelle

We got our room as well! 8020, so it looks like there was some pixie dust in the air!

I'll get everyone's room updated on the FE post over the weekend, it's late, I'm going to bed!
