9-08-2010 Pirates through the Mediterranean/ Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirates Life for Us

To those of you interested in the tour in Villefranche - I just sent you a PM with the details. Please respond as soon as possible to be included - I only have room for 6.

:wave2: Hi Everyone ,

I know its been awhile since I have posted in this thread , but being B2B and the TA thread has been a chore to keep up with along with some of the things we are getting knocked out here before the cruise ..

Im Just curious ...How many B2Bers do we have ???

Also out of you B2Bers do you plan on doing themed nights since this cruise is so port intensive ??? We have decided that we are not doing any theme nights based on we wanna see as much of the ports as we can ...Dont wanna have to rush back to the ship for dinner when we will have only few hours here and there ....

Now on the TA cruise we will be doing most themed nights cause that is our relaxation half of the cruise ...lol

Most of our excursions we are doing on our own , in Malta , my wife Helen use to work/live there and has contacted her driver that use to drive her back and forth to work and he has graciously offered to take us around for the day .... In Tunis , we have no idea yet ..lol In Rome we are just taking the train ourselves and going to see the sites , Pisa and pompeii pretty much the same ....Corsica still no idea ...and in VillaFrance , i think we will train to MonteCarlo since its pretty easy ..

Looking forward to seeing everyone on the ship , Old and New friends alike ...

pirate:

We're B2B....we are bringing pirate costumes for both the Med portion and the Transatlantic that are slightly different....and formal wear, etc. obviously. We are not bringing anything special for Villains on the Med...but we'll have our villains ties (and maybe masks) for the WBTA.

We're doing b2b as is another couple traveling with us. Not bringing theme night outfits, just not enough luggage allowance. For excursions, we're doing Adventures by Disney.

We're Adventures by Disney, as well! :)

What day are you flying from cdg to bcn? We are on easy jet flying the morning of the 7 th from cdg to bcn

We are on an Easy Jet flight out of CDG in the evening of the 7th at 6:25 with an arrival in Barcelona at 8:10 PM. I love Paris and DW (Mrs. Fish Extender) has never been there - I want to get in as much time there as possible. We are going to do some sightseeing in Barcelona on the 8th (I am shooting for getting to the terminal at about 2:00) and also on the 18th when we get back.

Ah we are just missing you! We'll be in Paris from the 2nd to the 7th. We don't know if we are doing Paris Disneyland yet or not - sort of playing it by ear. Since we are going to try to upgrade at the port, we will probably be at the port early so that leaves mainly the 7th for sight seeing Barcelona. I had thought about staying another day after the cruise gets back, but figured we will be exhausted by then and will probably just want to head home. Are you doing Paris Disney? What other plans do you have for Paris?

Just a quick note to let you know that DL Paris and Studios are very small. You can probably do both parks in one day. Also, if your not staying on property, you can easily take the metro/subway in. Not hard at all once you learn to navigate the lines. Interesting to say you've been there but I wasn't all that impressed with it. Subtle differences but not enough to make it a must do. But then again, that's easy for me to say as I've been there.

Barcelona now, that might be interesting but I would suggest that you do the hop on hop off bus.

Well, the only reason we are considering it is for our 3 year old - she's never been to any of the parks and I know she would freak at the sight of the castle etc. We were thinking maybe just half day there and taking the train in from downtown Paris as its only a 30 minute ride. We will probably do the HOHO in Barcelona - but depending on time and sleep level, we may just take a cab to a couple of places - we'll play it by ear when we are there.

Actually, you won't miss us, we're going to be there the 4th - 7th, we're hitting all the main hot spots, doing a dinner cruise on the Seine, also going to Versailles on the 7th, it'll be a great few days!

Has anyone had reviews of the DCL Sidi Bou Said and Carthage tour in Tunis? I'm thinking of booking it for all of us. Traveling in the city alone with the kids makes me nervous and this looks like it's pretty affordable for us and hits the big sites you want to see...

And if the last two posts weren't enough, here's one more!!!!

I've got all of the cabins updated for the FE list, I'm just missing one for Tink Rules?! Anyone? The whole list is on the first post of the FE thread here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2486906.

Pengiunmomma asked if there are any suggestions for FE gifts, my group doesn't have any allergies or issues with anything, are there any peanut, honey, seafood (ew, in a FE, bleh, but, you never know...) or other allergies that folks aught to know about?

That's the tour we're doing, the though of being in Tunisia on 9/11 "unsupervised" of sorts was not our cup of tea. Plus, we're not huge shoppers and while everyone says the markets are great there, I hate being accosted by merchants and totally suck at bargaining.

Our only requirement is to play frisbee with Wilson (the frisbee, think Tom Hanks in Castaway) somewhere on the African continent, he's been all over!

I've heard good and bad about the tour, mostly good, the one complaint was about their tour guide at Carthage, so we'll see how that goes, I'll keep my fingers crossed for a great one!

The 9/11 date hadn't even crossed my radar and it should have. I'm reserving our spots now. See you then! After the champagne of course :) I"m looking forward to meeting you!

During the stop at Villefranche - I was thinking about going to the Chagall Museum in Nice. Is anyone planning on visting this Museum and can tell me the best route?

I am a bit geographically challenged and am somewhat confused on the logistics on how to get there. :confused3

Thanks!

OH! You'll love Versailles! I was just there in April and was heartbroken that the gardens were closed. Please, please, please if they are open, please visit them. They are amazing especially when the fountains are on. Also, way down there is a small outdoor restaurant that you can eat outside in. Make sure you visit Marie Antionnette's little village.

Sorry if you've already been there, but I  that place. Interesting note that was passed on by my tour guide. At the time of the palace opening, there was no pipes laid out all over the gardens so what the king instructed the gardeners to do was to hook up a hose to the fountains and turn on the faucet. Then they had an established route and the king would have the gardeners run ahead and "turn on" that particular fountain for his guests to see. Of course, now, they are all attached. Don't miss the grotto or the main fountain 1/2 down the back. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Hi
Just booked this Cruise yesterday so I have a lot of catching up to do in the short time we have left :surfweb: Grrr I have missed the gift giving thingy I love stuff like that. I will read back through the posts @ some point in and amongst getting info etc. Oh so exciting. We chose this cruise due to bringing my Grandaughter on her very first Cruise We Love her to bits (as we do our other grannie children) We have cruised many times before from inside to out to balcony rooms. The dissision this year was a balcony room for my Hubby and myself or an inside and bring our Grandaughter (Think you know what we chose (not that hard a dissision really:flower3:) So because I am so late in joining can anyone give me a quick update On any other meets planned (wants to join the gift giving) No I totally understand that their had to be some sort of cut off point. Oh forgot to mention my DG is 7. I wanted to get the dvd for her of the cruise from the officail site but so annoying they only send to Canada and USA grrr unless any one knows diferent and can point me in the right direction to get one sent to the UK. Any links to threads on this site that you think may be of interest helpful to us please send them me like i mentioned earlier i will be here day and night searching info lol and need all the help I can get. 1 thing I do need to ask is have they got tea/coffee making facilitys in the rooms? Well I have rabbited on long enough. Cant wait to see GD face and share in her excitement I am a big kid @ heart:laughing: dances off singing disney tunes .........Oh and thankyou to Thuronald from the other forum for adding the link to this site in his post.

:)

I finished my black-and-purple dress today that I am wearing for the Villains Ball night on both cruises! You'll see me in the same clothes all the time.....only so much luggage can come with us!

The "official Champane Girls" are SO UNOFFICIAL!!!! Just a group who like to be silly and wear pink boas and tiaras! If you drink champagne, fine, if you don't, fine!

Are Adventures by Disney separate from the Port Adventures on the DCL website?

Yes. You had to book the Adventures by Disney package separately and the very BASIC descriptions of ABD port activities are actually on the ABD site, not the DCL site.

You do different port activities than are offered as normal excursions. There is some overlap (like, for example, the Coliseum in Rome is something that is offered as a DCL excursion and our ABD package also goes there), but there are some other things that I think only DCL is offering (Pompeii, for example, we don't get to see with ABD sadly) and others that only ABD package is doing. I also understand the ABD package (I've been closely following the trip report of DIS user sayhello who did the MEd ABD earlier this summer) is a lot more intense with longer days in ports jammed with lots more activities...and you're in a smaller group (no more than 40 folks) who remain the same from day to day....and there's a bunch of other perks you get, too (since you pay a LOT extra for the ABD package :lmao:).

Jason and I are really excited for the ABD feature just because we love letting Disney do all the planning and legwork (I'm on vacation...I reserve the right to be lazy) and we love the idea of the smaller group and a more hands on feel.
