It's usually just my daughter and I, so moderate resorts usually suffice. However, Christmas Eve it was decided to take an extended family vacation to WDW in 2011. 7 of us in all. I decided that a villa would be our best bet. However, I am not a DVC member and I have no idea how to proceed. I have read most of the post on the pitfalls of what to look for, how to keep safe, and how to calculate the points. Still waiting for 2011 chart.

But what do I do with the points that I need. How do I calculate what the cost will be? Let's say I need 470 points. Most of the posts read that we (the member and the renter) need to agree on a price. How do I know what's fair?

Any advice would be appreciated. Hope this is the correct board for this question.

Yes, you have reached the correct board for all of you DVC questions and I am sure you will get multiple responses to your questions.

1st of all, don't worry about waiting for the 2011 point charts as they will not really change from the 2009 or 2010 charts except for the dates which change to account for the change in the calendar. If you have looked at the 2009 point chart and determined that you will need 470 points then the cost to rent that many points from a DVC member will be in the range of $9 to $12 per point. If you are looking at using the points for a holiday period then expect to pay on the higher end of the range, while if you are looking at low season then you maybe able to rent at the lower end of range.

The earliest reservations can be made are 11 months b/4 the beginning of your trip and since you are looking to make a trip in 2011, I would not be in a hurry at this point.

Look over the point rental board to see what DVC members are offering for prices on point rentals and that will give you an idea of what is currently being offered.

Good luck.

It may cost a little more but you can book any DVC Villa directly through Disney. At least this way, you know there is no chance of being ripped off by a dishonest person. You also won't run the risk of no availability. To contact the Walt Disney Travel Company, call 1-407-W-DISNEY.

There was a point reallocation in 2010 and some are speculating (since the 2011 charts have not yet been released) that there could be more changes in 2011 so, depending on when the OP decides to go, there could be a difference in the # of points needed.

Having said that, I agree, that there is no huge rush since booking for 2011 is still almost a month away, but it is a great idea to get things started now as it gives time to find an owner who can has points at the resort of choice (so the 11 month booking advantage can be used if that is what the person wants).
