$89/night at Red Lion

That sounds almost too good to be true.

I've read one review by a half marathoner last September and a lot of reviews on travel sites. Honestly, the main reason I went for it (besides the overly positive reviews) was because anything not positive listed was either long enough ago it's irrelevant (old stuff gets updated a lot) and the customer service rep personally responded to every one I saw which shows they care about feeback.

We've booked it for our half marathon trip at the end of August so if you want to wait that long, I'll be reviewing it after.

If it helps for perspective, we booked our room for 73.50/night in a king, fireworks-view room (no buffet or parking as we need neither). The trip report I saw from last September said she got it for 70/night on priceline.

I stayed there last Thanksgiving for 5 nights.
It has nicely updated rooms with comfy bed's and nice leather like headboards.
Large flat screen t.v.'s...
The bathrooms are nice too.
The rate I got was $75.00 a night on Priceline, we didn't have a car, so no parking fee.
The breakfast, which we got for free the first morning, was HORRIBLE! I wouldn't have gone back, even if it was Free!
The Fireworks view room was Awesome, and a great view of DCA and the Funwheel changing color's all night long, that was very cool.
We took ART, it stops right in front.
The housekeeping was a little slow. One day they didn't show up until we had come back in the afternoon to rest... like 4pm. We had to wait in the lobby...
They have a bar, but it was never open while we we're there. Nice pool area, but to cold to use it, while we we're there.
If the rate is actually what is stated, I'd say it's worth it!
I hope this helps!:hippie:

I would also maybe look at how much the buffet costs if not included and parking as well. If you're going to use both anyways and say the buffet costs 11.99 and parking 8, then that's a good deal. If you're not going to park anyway, and the buffet is normally 5, then the savings might not be as great. :confused3

Just FYI....website says the buffet is $9.95 and parking is $14. But from the reviews I'm reading it sounds like the buffet is horrible....and that if you call the hotel to book your room some people got the parking fee waved.

We stayed here at the beginning of July and thought it was a lovely hotel, close enough to the parks to be able to walk, infact the car park for Disney was on the next block.
Had a problem with the safe on arrival but was sorted out very quickly.
The parking was around $14 but ours was free with the package we had booked.
Only tried the breakfast buffet once but in the end had to see the manager as it was truly awful, food was cold and not very nice. As we joined the queue to see the manager there was about 3 other parties in front of us all complaining about the same thing so doubt very much they made money from it on that particular morning. There is an IHOP right next door.
Wouldn't hesitate about using this hotel in the future.:thumbsup2

I knew you were from England when I read "car park". :drive:

;)

Thank you for posting this deal!

Wow about breakfast! A few of the very most recent reviews on TripAdvisor say the breakfast buffet is actually good (even a negative review called the breakfast buffet a saving grace!). Is there nothing remotely edible there? I'm not picky; I'd take a bagel, donut, toast, etc. (At this rate, I'm considering the buffet effectively "free.")

The AAA rate may be lower than the TravelZoo rate (it was I believe $10 cheaper than the TravelZoo rate for our dates). But the AAA rate doesn't seem to include parking. So if you won't have a car but do have AAA, and you don't want the buffet, you might do better booking the AAA rate. Or you could try calling the hotel to get the parking waived, I suppose. But if you want the buffet and/or can't get the parking rate waived, the TravelZoo rate seems to be the best bet.

The deal says an upgrade to the premium fireworks view if available, but it's listed as $10 more per night on the site. Do you think it's worth $40 plus tax for a view room? :confused3

It's a good deal. We stayed at the RL two summers ago. We didn't have breakfast vouchers, so we didn't eat there. They did waive the parking fee for me. I went via priceline .I actually had a miscommunication and was asking for the parking ticket not a free vouchers but that's what they gave me ;)

I just booked on hotwire and was really hoping to get the RL again, if I had just waited a few days I would have seen this deal. I'd have done that in a heartbeat.

It is absolutely the best deal for a 3 1/2 star place in the immediately vicinity including free parking and free breakfast.

very bad experience with Red Lion maingate last year. Will never stay again.

It would be a lot more helpful to everyone if you explained what happened and why you won't stay there again. For many people who have never been, hearing others' experiences can really help them avoid potential problem hotels. Simply saying it was bad and you won't stay there again doesn't really help anyone learn what may be wrong with the hotel.

Ok here's my review I left on all major tavel sites last year

We are a family of 4 2 boys 3 and 5 year old. We booked this Hotel thru Costo travel which is one of Disney's good neighbor hotels. When we first checked in we were given a room that had not been cleaned yet. Next day after a 1/2 day in the park we came back to find our room keys not working. My 5 year old who is autistic old pissed his pants cause we could get into our room. The front lobby had only one person working at the time so we had to wait 1/2 hour until they could fix our room keys. You can imagine my Autistic son did not handle this well. They tried to tell us that we demagnetized the cards keys even thou both my wife and I had different card keys that would not work. After getting into the room the room had not been maid up and it was 3:30pm So we left so they could make up our room. The next morning when I was taking a shower I noticed that the shower drain was not draining they came to the room and tried to use some type of plunger on the drain. On the third day after returning from the park guess what? Our room keys did not work again. Again they tried to blame fault on us saying we demagatized the room keys. Come to find out the battery in the door lock was low so they comped us breakfast for the rest of our trip. On our last morning while I was using the toilet I noticed the dirty water starting to come up thru the bathtub drain. This was sewer water from other people. At that time I had enough and just wanted to leave. Thank you Red Lion for making our vacation a living hell. This was to be our family summer vacation that we saved up for 2 years. Red Lion made it the worst vacation ever.

I was wondering if you used the pool at all? When we were there at Christmas 2009 there was no pool heat and it was freezing, my kids could not even use the pool the whole trip and we were there for ten days.
If anyone knows if there pool is better now, please let me know. Thank you :)

Only my kids did. They enjoyed it, but I honestly don't know if it was or wasn't heated. This was in August however, so they may have been oblivious or loving the cold water if it was cold. Maybe read thru some trip adviser reviews if no one else has the answer here.
