Doing some quick math...I stand to save about $2000 by renting out about 800 points and paying cash for two category 7 staterooms for a 7 day western caribbean Disney cruise in November 2005. Can I rent out banked points? How difficult is it to rent out that many BCV points? I'm not sure I want to deal with multiple renters, the time involved, etc.
Am I being lazy or being wise not to deal with renting points?

You'll probably end up with multiple renters. You could always look for posts from people looking for a large sum of points and contact them yourself. Or you could look to transfer some of the points to another DVC member--one phone call and you're done.

Yes, you can rent banked points, but you cannot transfer banked points. Remember, a rental is simply you agreeing to book a room in someone else's name. You keep total control of the points throughout the process.

Hard telling how much time you may end up expending. You may get contacted by a non-member that doesn't really understand DVC, only wants 80-100 points for a studio, and runs you around in circles checking availability on multiple dates and resorts. Or, you could get lucky and find someone that wants 400 pts right off the bat.

For $2000, I'd say it's worth a little time and energy. Just make sure you're up to it--I'd be pretty leery of sending a total stranger hundreds of dollars if he/she couldn't even respond to email messages in a timely manner. ;)

It is easy and far more beneficial to rent points and pay cash for the cruise especially when you look at the cost of the cruise and the number of points.

I would be extra careful renting out the borrowed points. Remember once you borrow they cannot be returned to their original use year.

Just make sure you have a firm agreement in place and a backup plan if that renter should cancel their ressie. I would try to secure renters that want to use those borrowed points early in your UY so if they cancel or reschedule you will still have time and not be down to the wire and have to have a fire sale on those points.

We rented points to pay cash for the Member Cruise, so I agree that it can be worth pursuing.
