Ok, we want to go to Disney....All 8 of us.

Me (34)- Sheli, soon to be disboard junkie
DH (37)- non-disney dad who can "take it, or leave it"
Alex (12)- too cool for "kids stuff"
Matt (11)- Happy, love of my life, also High Functioning Autistic
Quin (6)- Loves everything and everyone loves him
Emmy (1)- monster baby...from happy to screaming in 2.8 seconds
My Mom (old)- nice but gets crabby easily (remember this)
My Dad (old)- Heart valve replacement, Stroke victim and hates that he can't ride the coasters anymore.

But when will we go?...lets look for good airfare and go over April Break (aka- EASTER WEEK) Those of you who have done this might know better, but I had my heart set on that week, told the kids about going, and signed up for Ding! from Southwest. Thinking "This is going to happen!!!!" I was so excited!!!

Of course, we missed the release of southwest's tickets for our time by a day and when I noticed that the dates were up the price was already through the roof. We would have paid for the higher price but my parents refused- so it was a no-go for April.

2 weeks later...A new airline is announced...flying out of Pease, NH...Allegiant Airline...and they have tix for $59 each way....YEAH!!!! But wait... the trip dates are changed to summer since they won't be flying by Easter...and Dmom decides that July 4th eweek sounds great...a holiday at Disney...what's not to love?? (ok, you can laugh at me now)

I buy plane tix for 8. Then I think..wow, not much more to plan... HAHAHA...Little did I know. (can you tell this was all PRE-DIS ?)

My dad is retired military so the first plan was to stay in 2 rooms at Shades of Green. But DH doesn't want to stay there...he wants to stay at the Contemporary (my life long dream.) Ok, look on the disney.com site, price out the CR, decide that we could swing it and parents can stay at SOG and on their budget. But 2 days pass and when I go online to book it not all the days are available at the Contemporary...ok Hubby...now what? What about the Polynesian? HEY- what about both? Let's stay at one then the other...how fun. So we book it, 2 stays, 2 deposits, all done online, Yeah! We're going to disney...nothing can stop us now!

This is when i find the Dis-Boards...full of people who KNOW about disney...they're talking about some DINING PLAN and a AAA discount, and GAC's and at least a Zillion other things I didn't know.

Well...we have AAA and the Dining Plan sounds like a great benefit...so I call Disney to have our reservations fixed. They can put on the AAA discount or the Dining Plan but not both. So I say...skip the plan..give us the discount. Wait though, Online reservations can't be modified like that so they have to cancel the first 2, and make 2 more with the discount. They refund my Credit Card but I don't have enough credit left to Charge the new reservation. 9 days of PANIC! followed while we waited for the credit so I could call back and give the deposit. Deposit was finally paid and I jumped into Dis-Boards full time. (This was when I told my parents about not staying at SOG with them, they were not happy but understood that it was what we wanted to do.)

I then found out that you can have the AAA discount and the Dining plan if you book through AAA. Back and forth for a week whether it was a good deal or not. More DIS and time made me NEED to change the reservation once again. Off to AAA I went with my home-made estimates in hand. They take my information and call me back with a number. A BIG number...but it is almost the same as my estimate so I say "Go for it!" This time I have credit available and put down the 2 deposits like an expert. I wait for the confirmation call from my AAA guy then cancel the 2nd original reservation. (Now we're going to Disney with the Dining Plan!)

ADR's??? I called from the hotel last time but this time people are saying to call 180 days out...OMG..that is in a week...I need to figure out where to eat....I need to know where MOM and DAD want to eat.... "How are we supposed to know what we want to eat 6 months before we get there...you plan it Michelle" (only my mother calls me Michelle, and when she does it grates on my nerves.) Fine- I'll Plan the meals and don't gripe about it later!
So, it becomes 9 restaurants in 7 days and if they don't like it they can eat burgers. I even went to allearsnet and printed menus for all the places and gave them to her. I don't think she ever looked at them.

Weeks pass and mom decides that she HAS to be at the same hotel as the grandkids so off to AAA they go to make their reservations, but she gets some idiot who does not know what she is doing and her package came out more than mine. My Dad and I go fix it and mom still has sticker shock..."Michelle, are you sure you want to stay there? It's SOOO much money!" Yea, I'm sure....stay wherever but don't ruin my trip.

Next Up: T minus 7 days... Allegiant flies into WHERE?

Can't wait to see how it goes with mom and dad! You are a brave girl. I would never attempt to keep my mom and my family happy at the same time!

This beginning post is STRESSING me out! Sheli!!!!!? How did you DO it?? You are awesome, girl! If I brought my parents along I'd go mad as a Hatter. I'd be worried my kids were buggin my crabby mother and not enjoy myself. Love the description of your family and cant wait to read more!!! Oh, what is a GAC? I couldn't figure out that one...I'm sure I'll slap my forehead when you clear it up.

I'm so glad to find you early on...So hurry up (just kidding!)
Sincerely Yours, Utahmama

Having any of my family (other than DH and kids) makes me crazy, they never plan, only want to eat fast food and just wander around sooooo much!

Keep posting, can't wait to see how this all works out...

Bev

Enjoying your report so far. We were there the same time with my DMIL. We all ended up irritated with her, but we still love her.

Give us more!

OMG! I have to be honest you are scaring me.... I am also in your boat, as I am the planner for our Grand Gathering. Me (33) Hubby (42) DD's (12) then Mom (60) Aunt (60), Aunt is the 'buffer' for Mom...she can be very irritating and loves to complain. Then we have my best friend (33) her hubby (31) her kids, d(13), S(5), s(18mos). I hope we will all survive. I will be looking for your updates!!!!!

Great start! Can't wait to hear more. Hurry up please....

I think this is going to get very interesting :rolleyes1

Do you always start something you do not intend to finish? You left us hanging?? What about the pie eating???

It sounds like your off to a hectic start. Can't wait to hear how the rest of your trip went. Sounds like something that would happen to me if I tried to plan a trip with my family.

Did I mention that I booked the air plane tickets? (ddad suggested the new airline)
Did I mention that I booked the dining reservations? (dmom couldn't possible decide what to eat 6 months before the trip.)
Did I mention that I checked the EMH schedule and planned what park to go to each day and where to avoid?

10 days before the trip
Dmom suddenly wants all this information. She doesn't know what time we fly, land, eat or anythign for the trip that starts in less than 2 weeks. She somehow doesn't know it despite the fact that I gave her the information 5+ months ago. (Don't you have a folder with all this stuff in it mom? Don't you have pages upon pages saved on your hard drive about Disney? Don't you listen? No, that's me.) I e-mail it all to her 3 times (she lost the first 2) so she can make a visual planner for my 11yo son Matt. He needs it, without "seeing" what is going on the next day he will not enjoy the trip. Worrying all the time about what is next or where he is going. She is doing a good thing, I will not be irritated! (I e-mailed it 3 times!!!)

7 days before the trip I am frantically trying to clean the house.

At this point I should say that I found the dis-boards chat room. I have made some wonderful friends (HI LADIES and DANNY!) and I enjoy any excuse to talk Disney and avoid housework.

So I am cleaning...the "WE WILL NOT GO TO DISNEY IF THIS HOUSE IS NOT CLEAN" cleaning. Packing for the trip is almost done, this is the "mop the floor, clean the bathroom...Sheli hates to come home from vacation to a messy house"....cleaning. The phone rings and it's Dmom.

Dmom-"Where does allegiant fly into?"
Me- "Sanford"
Dmom- "Do you know where Sanford is? I thought we were flying into Orlando."
Me- "It's an hour from Disney, It's Orlando-Sanford airport."
Dmom- "AN HOUR????"
ok, pause, breathe, count to ten.
Me-"Yes mom, an hour, it's just north of Orlando, only about 30 minutes more than the big Orlando airport, we'll be fine."
dmom has the nerve to ask where our rental cars are reserved for- "Does your dad know where we're flying into?" (He's right beside her- I can hear him, telling her to calm down. He knows what's going on.)
Me-"Gotta go, Matt needs help sweeping the floor, bye mom."

1 day before the trip.
I am the only one not fully packed for the trip, because as the mom I have the fewest clothes in the house. All my stuff is washing or drying and going straight into the suitcase. Alex (ds12) has been pressed into duty to help with the laundry. 3 of my shirts have stains on them so I ask him to put some dish soap on the spots before tossing them into the wash. 2 hours later they come out with giant bleach spots on them. 2 other pieces that were in the load are bleached too.
I am now the screaming mom from any number of bad-mom movies. What happened to my shirts? I needed these shirts. Disney does not want me topless! Quin's blue shorts are ruined...his only dressy shorts.

In tears I go to the chat room (9pm Saturday night- my last before the trip) And as everyone is excited about my iminent departure I crumble.....

My shirts are ALL ruined...my son used dishwasher soap (with bleach) not Dawn dish liquid. I have nothing to wear. and of all things DH is mad at ME..... "If you did your own work instead of making a kid do it this would not have happened...." He stomps off to bed not speaking to me as I sat crying that my trip is really ruined before it started. The stores are all closed.

but wait.....

Rhonda, my sister-from-a-past-life, says..."Just run out to the store and grab some before you go in the morning. It'll be fine." We have time in the morning, I check the store hours online, they open at 8am. I finally calm down...I can get the shirts replaced...it will be fine. I then stay up until after midnight chatting with my friends who I won't "see" for a week, and roll into bed for my last sleep before DISNEY!!!!

You all know - I over-slept in the morning. At 9:36 it was too late to get to the store and still get back, packed and off to the airport. I am almost sick with panic...what can I do if I have 4 shirts for a 7 day trip? And where is DH anyway? The house is strangely quiet, his car is not in the driveway.

Up next- Departure Day. Allegiant Cattle Air and the Airport that Isn't.

A GAC is a Guest Assistance Card. It is issued by Disney for use at Disney. I had never heard of it before I found this wonderful place. It is for people with various handicaps to be able to access and enjoy Disney when they otherwise might not be able to. With an Autistic child this is a good think to know about but it turned out we did not need it as much as I was worried we might.

Check out the dis-ABILITIES board here for more information.

And thanks to everyone for your support. I promise to write the whole trip report even if we all wish i would just shut up and go away ;)

I am so sorry about your shirts! So, Is your husband at the store replaceing all your shirts for you??? Is that why it is quiet in the house???? Please say yes!

Wouldn't that be a nice thing if it did happen? Can't imagine my DH ever doing that for me. So sorry this clouded the start of your trip, I know all about pre-departure panic, I'm a pro :grouphug: Keep it coming,

Your report started off so good. I'll keep looking for the rest.
Can't wait to see where DH is, yes that would be sweet if he were out buying shirts, my dh would never know what size to buy or anything. He can barely buy his own clothes.
