8 adr's too many?

here is my question,

we are going to be staing at the YC for 6 nights this Aug and I have made 8 ADR's.

1 breakfast at cape may
4 lunches at via napoli, teppan edo, Cinderella lunch, and Yak and yedi.

Lastly dinner, Yachsman, rose and crown and captains grill.

My question is is this overkill on ressis? I have never in my life made so many but i keep reading that if you dont you may be shut out. So should I cancel some or is this about right?

Also I am starting to wonder with all these if DP might make sense.

Any input would be appreciated, thanks

We are going to be there for two weeks and have way more ADRs than that. It doesn't sound like too many to me at all. Enjoy your ADRs!!!!

No I do not consider it too many at all. For a 6 day trip the least we would have would be 12 since we always do a TS breakfast and either lunch or dinner. Our trip this year we decided to try the DxDP so we are doing 17 ADRs for our 7 days

The DDP would be too few TS credits and the DxDP to many unless you want to add more places to try during your stay.

I would look at the menus of where you plan to eat and estimate what you will order then compare that cost with the cost of the DP to see if it would be worth it.

for an 8 days I have 18 reservations and yes I plan on using all of them. we mainly have breakfast and dinner everyday and in 2 instances we have lunch planned also but as a shared meals.

to answer your question, no I don't feel 8 ADr to be too many for the lenght of your stay.

We just returned from a 6 night trip and had 6 ADR's and ended up cancelling 1 while there because we felt like our plans were ending up being around making it to eat rather than to enjoy the parks and trip. AND we were on the dining plan, so we actually didn't even use one of our TS after all that. I'm not sure who you are travelling with, but we had a 1.5 year old and 4.5 year old and they were waaay sick of eating sit down meals that frankly, took forever. We were PSYCHED to stumble upon a Ohana reservation for dinner late the night before.... we had just cancelled a breakfast... well Ohana was great, but it was SO LONG my kids were miserable, I had to leave and take the littlest outside, and the waiter KNEW they were DONE and they did nothing to speed anything up. I was ready to leave without dessert it was that bad! I think it depends what kind of trip you are looking for. The lunches will be nice air conditioned breaks for you, and might work well esp if you plan getting fastpasses around eating....you might be able to get a FP, eat, then use teh FP.... but for our kids at such a young age, we did schedule breakfasts and dinners. Found the dinners even though booked early, ran so long, by the time we transported back to our hotel, they were so late getting to bed, that the breakfasts weren't working out for us. Good luck! Just remeber, you can always cancel an ADR, that's the good thing.

I don't think it is too many. We are going for 11 days in Nov/Dec and we have 10 ADRs. I was wondering if that was all we want to do. It just all depends on your eating style and what you prefer. I personally don't like most of the CS.

We only get to go to Disney World every couple of years, so our number one priorty is the attractions, second comes the food. On our upcoming trip we have days with 2 reservations, others only 1.

I agree with one of the other posters. Think to how you normally eat on vacation or on a "typical day". Remember you can always cancel most reservations without penalty. I know on our last visit to WDW, one night it was pouring and would not let up- we ended up canceling our reservation and enjoying the resort.

For those who book 8-15 ADRs for a 6 night trip...are you making several ADRs a day but only planning on using 1. If so...that's  not right.

I'm as much an opponent of the practice of making adr's you won't use as anyone, but....

Quick math tells me that a 6 night stay (would include 7 days) with 2 adr meals per day is 14 meals, so it's right in the given range of 8 to 15.

If you're on DxDP you'd have plenty of TS credits to cover this, but also consider that you can make a TS adr and pay oop either in addition to the DDP or without having any dining plan.

We are staying for 5 nights in August, arriving early on the first day and leaving later on the last day, so we have 10 ADRs. Mostly a late breakfast or early lunch, then a 2 credit dinner. I know it's going to be HOT so we want to be able to sit down at a nice restaraunt and enjoy the a/c and a good meal. We plan on showing up for all of them! :thumbsup2

2 years ago we did DxDP and had at least 2 TS adrs per day - last year we did DDP and only had 1 TS adr per day.

While I enjoyed DxDP food and flexibility to use multiple TS in a day or go to signatures and shows, I'd say the major downside to it is being tied to so many adr's - it's hard to tour the parks when you're always worried about having enough time to catch a show or stand in a line and get to your adr on time. It's especially tough to make a lunch adr.

So, unless on DxDP and needing to use TS credits, I think that I'd avoid making multiple adr's per day.

Just don't forget to consider your touring style. Last year was our first vaca with the dining plan and ADRs, and I learned a lot.

1. I now make breakfast ADRs in the parks BEFORE opening around 8am.
2. I learned that, for us, table service lunches REALLY eat into park touring time, so we stick to counter service lunches.
3. For our 5 night stay, I booked 3 dinner ADRs - one of which is arrival night.

On our last trip, I had a few lunch ADRs and Dinner ADRs every night. I enjoyed my food, but it was the first time in all my trips that I felt like my dining plans were ruling my whole vacation. On top of that, we took a break every day for my DS to nap, so between that and my ADRs, I felt like we did nothing but eat and sleep! It was frustrating. So now, no TS lunches, just a few TS dinners, and a character breakfast or 2.

8 ADRs is not too many, I'm just suggesting that you use them wisely ;)

I don't think so! We do DxDDP so I book a ADR for every sit down meal we plan. Sometimes I cancel the night before or the day of if we change our park plans. On our last trip I cancelled or changed restaurants online using my laptop in our room a few times and it was easy. :thumbsup2

We always go on the Disney dining plan:

Breakfast: We stay at POR; buy breakfast OOP from cafeteria.
Lunch: Use QS in the parks.
Dinner: Sit down ADR. We always use there for dinners (except the time we did the Storybook breakfast at Akershus...LOVED IT! :cloud9:)
Snack: We usually will either do the snack before of after dinner depending on our ADR time.

So my question is how do you cancel reservations? Do you call them? Or stop at the front desk at the hotel? Stop at the restaurant yourself?

We changed our times last trip by going up to the restaurant and asking. Just wondering if there is any easier way. Thanks!

We do one TS every day we're there( this time 8 days). We get the DDP because that 1 TS usually costs more than 1 day of DDP for us. THe way I figure it that makes our snacks and QS meal free each day. :)

On parks days, I'd always make 2 dinner TS ressies per day... one for a rainy day scenario either at a resort or at DTD; and one at the park we planned to be at that day.

I always canceled the unused one a few hours before to early morning the day of the ressie. My method is always telephone. Usually I wouldn't be anywhere near the ressie I was canceling so walk-up cancel didn't work for us.

Also I make a TS ressie for a special big breakfast usually on the day we leave.

Oh yes, and we never do DDP.
