Cast: Me 47, DH 47, DS 15, DD 10
August 9, 2004
Started the day with our REAS champagne breakfast (minus the champagne!). Warning: if you don't like your scrambled eggs runny make sure you note that on your order! Eggs were way too runny for my family's taste! Everything else was good though.
Left the ship about 10 am, with no real plans. I wanted to book a day room at the Comfort Suites so we would have full access to Atlantis but DH didn't want to so we decided just to wander around and explore. DS brought his birthday money and he wanted a gold chain so we hit the jewelry stores. After wandering through several stores he found a chain he wanted and bought it. I fell in love with the tanzanite jewelry but talked myself out of buying anything. I have so much jewelry that I rarely wear that I just really did not need to spend the money. DD wanted to visit Del Sol so we headed there. It was very crowded and after what seemed like forever she found a tank top and color changing nail polish she wanted. About that time DS decides he now needs a gold charm for his new chain so its back to the jewelry stores. He was looking for a crab (he's a Cancer) but finds a palm tree and decides that will be a nice memory of vacation and buys it. We then decide that as long as we were in Nassau we have to at least walk through the Straw Market. Thats exactly what we did, walked straight through saying "No Thank you" to everyone. Kids are ready to head back to the ship by then, it's almost 4 pm and we're all hot and hungry and I'm determined not to spend any money on food since we can return to the ship and eat there. Oh I almost forgot, every where you went the hair-braiders were there calling out "Pretty lady wanta hair braided?" It almost sounded like a song, over and over, in fact my kids walked around singing it the rest of the cruise! DD had decided not to have her hair braided as she's pretty tender-headed so again I just kept saying "No, Thank You"
We went back to the ship and had a hamburger by the pool then headed to scoops for ice cream! DD went swimming and DS went back to the room and took a little nap. DH and I relaxed by the pool with the 2 for 1 margaritas! DD is having second thoughts about the hair braiding, she's seeing how cute all of the girls who have had it done look. I tell her if she really wants it done she can at Castaway Cay tomorrow.
Tonight's show was Mark Nizer but we all decided we wanted to skip it, we were tired and just didn't feel like going (although everyone we talked to told us it was great!).
We wandered over to gaze at the silent auction items again and DH and I talked about how great it would be to rebook another cruise (especially a West Coast next summer since we live in California).
Dinner tonight at Triton's and they were doing formal pictures so we headed back to the room to shower and dress.
Went and had family pictures done and it's a little early for dinner so we walked around a little and ended up at the silent auction again. DH tells me to just put a bid on my favorite but I can't decide which is my favorite!
Off to dinner at Triton's and DS and I have the sirloin and it was delicious. Before we can even order dessert DS asks to be excused to go to Common Grounds. We have to detain him because they were going to sing Happy Birthday to him and DH tonight. (Both had birthday's just before we left and our TA had included that in our ressies) they brought a small cake that had a decoration on the top that was white chocolate with a picture of the ship inlayed in dark chocolate! As soon as they sang DS was off to Common Grounds. Our servers were teasing him about how many girlfriends he had waiting there for him! In reality he had made friends with 3 boys and a girl who were cousins and from Los Angeles. After we finished DD wanted to go to the Lab with her friends the twins from next door. DH and I went to the end of the Tropical Deck Party but didn't want to stay for the buffet as we had just eaten. We headed to the Cadillac Lounge and had wonderful Lemon Drop Martinis. Chatted with the waitress Gabriela (I think she was from Bosnia) she was real nice, talked about everywhere she would like to travel to. The place was pretty empty so it was nice just to sit and relax. After that we wandered around the decks just exploring for a while and enjoying the beauty of the ship. Headed back to the room when they paged that DD had gone to the room. Didn't see DS till 2 am when Common Grounds closed (tonight was Pajamarama Movie Night).
Tomorrow: Castaway Cay!
