Magical Express-very cute...I'm not quite sure of the agreement with Mears, but Disney's touch made it much more enjoyable. The welcoming video certainly gets you in the spirit.
We stayed in building 1 on the bottom floor with a standard view. A little bit of a walk compared to other buildings, but definitely doable for us. Our first time at POFQ, and despite my hesitations (scared of clownish figures!
) the resort was beautiful. Luckily, most of the clownish theming was in the food court.
With the free dinning plan, we ate at many places I don't think we would have-I'm vegetarian and DM really doesn't eat a lot of meat. It can be hard to find things to eat especially at fancy places. However, I made a list prior to our trip with help of allearsnet.com menus of places I would eat and what they had on the menu. Overall, we ate some wonderful meals and entirely too much most of the time!
Our first experience was at Mama Melrose's-the food was very good, I don't think we would return if we were paying. I was weary of being treated differently once the waiter/waitress knew we were on the dinning plan. We really only had two obvious instances of feeling less regular customers. Mama's unfortunately was one of them, the other was at Wolfgang Puck Cafe, but the food was amazing-try the pumpkin ravioli!
We had two character meals-Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace, both breakfasts, both very good. Chef Mickey's was on my birthday with a special place mat and a cupcake-cute interaction as well.
Our favorite table meals were Ristorante Alfredo in Epcot's Italy and Les Chefs de France in Epcot's France. The waiters were absolutely yummy
, I mean...the food. Our waiters really were wonderful both places, so much so, we felt tipping in addition to the plan. At Italy, we had the alfredo-amazing. At France, we had the macaroni (I know) but it was also very good.
As far as counter service meals, we found Pinocchio's village haus to have a good amount of food (salad, pizza, dessert, and a drink). Pizzafari in Animal Kingdom had similar selection.
POFQ's food court breakfast was disappointing-we got used to those buffets!
We had to try the no way jose sundae at beaches and cream. DM decided we should get one each and not share-please share, it's huge, but at least fun to see how far you can get-that was our lunch for the day! If you can help it, don't sit at the counter. It took a bit of time to be waited on and I felt to be such a burden at the counter. Some of the crew were subtly rude to each other-which is something you may not be able to avoid in the work place anywhere, but I didn't care to watch it...just a heads up
Our best souvenir was the official album cd two disc set. It has most of the songs from attractions. It's great to have at home!
We really loved Soarin! I usually get sick at Imax movies, but this is much better-I was dizzy, but not sick.
Maybe I just hadn't been looking for it, but I don't remember reading about the Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon bus. For the FQ folks, you're the last stop when dropping off-usually FQ is the first stop off the bus. The boat ride is a nice change from the busses.
Any questions, feel free to ask
