Please tell me these were not from moped accidents. Hope you have all of yours behind you. I am always knocking on wood b/c I've never had surgery and figure they will all come when I am 60.

No, the the 1st knee surgery was because of a birth defect to my right knee,it used to dislocate all the time,I was 14. The second 2 were bone spurs, left knee. I have no cartiledge in that one to speak of. Had to have a series of 6 shots in that knee after the last surgery. The heart was because of blocked arteries. The first stent was put in at 42, I blew it out and got the second one at 44.

Incidentally(sp), I did wreck my scooter this last summer. Not paying attention,I hit an uneven spot in the road, hit the front brake and flew over it. Poor Kevin was riding in front of me and saw the whole thing in his rearview mirror. :scared: I just happened to be wearing shorts and a sleeveless top at the time(it was 107* that day). N0 broken bones, lots of road rash. Ride in an ambulance on a back board. No stitches either. I was really surprised because I'm on blood thinners! Oh, and did I mention that I did this in front of the Scooter Shop where I bought the bike? :rolleyes1 The owner was standing outside with a potential customer at the time. I took my eyes off the road, hand off the handle bar and waved hi:wave2: He was the first one to me. And now I'm getting the Pink Tink ready to consign into the shop so I can get a Bigger bike:banana:

Thank you for clarifying your intentions. :) Under the circumstances, it will need to be a separate endeavor. Disneypilots has volunteered to help organize the DL meet on 8/16/08. Would you like to work with him as part of that? It sounds like a great opportunity to get to talk with each other instead of just gathering outside of a ride.

I know it might sound wrong, but what if there are those of us who aren't intending to go to DL before the cruise?

We're invited to the neighbors for some board games so I'll be missing another lovely night of chat. Before I go...I thought I'd leave you with a little pirate joke:

A pirate & a sailor were at a bar in Tortuga. The sailor looked over & noticed the pirate had a peg leg, a hook & an eye patch. The sailor asked the pirate, "How'd you get that peg leg?" The pirate replied, "An alligator bit it off." Then the sailor asked, "How'd you get that hook on your arm?" The pirate answered, "I was fighting in a gruesome sword battle & I got me arm cut off." The sailor then asked, "Well how'd you get that eye patch?" The pirate mumbled, "A seagull pooped in it." The sailor asked in amazement, "How could seagull poop do that?" Finally the pirate grumbled, "It was the first day with me hook!"

Wow, sorry you had such an experience! :grouphug:

I think we all have to sit back and reflect for a moment. Why do you think the government is intruding so much? They are starting to cover all the bases when it has to do with our kids. From puberty (and Family Life), to morals, to manners, to vaccines, onto going to the doctor or dentist... We ask for it more or less. We want them to do something about teen pregnancies, STDs, criminals, drugs, etc. What do we expect them to do? Their only option is to put it in the schools. This is where they can reach the masses.

Now I for one do not agree with most of it. I think the government is a bit too much into our business and how we deal with our everyday lives in terms of protecting ourselves and our families. But we keep turning to them for solutions...

We have turned into a "It's not MY fault" society and the government is trying to protect their butts much the same way as companies do with all of their (mostly) useless warning lables. In a perfect world, parents would take care of their own business. It is just really hard for the ones that DO take care of their families to deal with being put in with the masses that don't.

yes, it is really hard for the ones that do take care of their families to deal with being put in with the masses that don't. And it affects my sensibilities/etc. because I feel like we're slowly morphing into a communist state. Freedom? What stinkin' freedom...
But do you like your hair. Love highlights.

I just have to butt in here. I don't have any strong feeling either way but that is because this is really the first time I am hearing about most of this. I knew that the vaccine existed but I didn't know it was being pushed on some areas. I have taken my DD15 to the doctors so many times in the last year that she meets the deductible with in the first month of the year and this has never, ever been brought up to us. I will have to ask her doctor when we go back in. I do know that having a child in this range and talking to friends of mine with kids in the same age group that as well as we raise our children, there are those that will doing things that their parents have no clue about. We have raise our kids in a Christian home and have talk to them about abstinence and all that goes along with living a live pleasing to God. My kids know where we stand but I hear from them all the time about things that I had no knowledge of at their age. They just grow up so fast. Not to say that our kids do these things but they know kids their age that do. And they happen on school buses, in bathrooms during school hours, at sporting events. If their is a willing child then they will find a way. Not right and certainly, they think they are invincible at this age but they will soon find out that that is not the case. I will have to find out much more about this before I can make a decision. I have enjoyed the discussion on this because, as I said I am in the dark on this vaccine for the most part. Hmmm, I guess, I had more to say than I thought.

Yes, actually this time I do like my hair! We've been trying to repair what a previous hairdresser did to my hair, slowly over 6wks periods, and it's finally looking like I want to. (ie: more natural instead of like some bimbo bleach blonde LOL)

I know what you're saying about if there is a will, there is a way. And I realize that for the MOST PART that is true... but considering how I was raised, I know that this is not always the truth. If you have a parent that is all up in your business and never allows for ANY time for that to happen, then it can't. I had a parent like that, and it's why I was "the way I was" until after I was an adult (ie: 19yr old virgin). My children don't ride school buses, there is NO WAY this could happen in the bathrooms here with 4min between classes and so rushed my daughter can't even go to the bathroom between classes (just had a litlte "discussion" about this today with one of her teachers who gives demerits and points off conduct if they EVER have to go to the bathroom for any reason during class), we are there supervising them at sporting events, etc. Now granted my mom might have taken it a little too far at times once I was older (16+) but her method worked... :rotfl: So I'm proof that willing child does not mean it can happen, not if you have a mom like I had!

Ruby survived her track meet tonight and not only that, she was the only one from our school that won her 300 hurdles heat! (apparently they had 4 races in 300 hurdles, one girl from our school vs 5 other girls from 5 other schools in each race. The one Ruby did, she won! It's so awesome, her first track meet and she gets 1st place... and here I was just hoping she wouldn't injure herself. LOL

:cheer2: Congratulations Ruby - way to go!!!!!!:cheer2:

Thanks! I'll show her all the congrats posts. :)

I must say...

Reading your remarks here ring true with how my spouse and I feel and behave. ALthough our children are younger (5 and 3) I am intensely interested in the future... and how to be a better parent. Rather then reply piecemeal and edit out the remarks I found endearing or agreeable I left almost the whole reply intact above so I would NOT be quoting out of context. I imagine more than a few folks here will be unable to reread the entire thread... and a few may not want to click back to see the original posting.... and BESIDES... so much of what you had to say was so GOOD that I thought it would be tolerable to repost the entire thing.

At any rate... who knows what the future holds. I might one day wake up and discover through parently ignorance and inattention I or my spouse may commit a parenting error of significant magnitude. I won't say what I fear most ... but I will say I am trying be very level best to be a great Dad to my little girls and husband to my spouse. I do believe my kids are good ones and doing their level best to be kids <chuckles>.... but decent ones. They're not psychotic or troublesome... just vexing and stubborn at times... which I can deal with easily. And the same or similar is true of my best friend ... Alicia ... in that I believe she is trying her level best to be a great spouse for me. Including her stubborn moments.... <silent staring moment - with a carefully concealed chuckling - as I love her just as much (if not more) when shes' being stbborn or a pain>.

At any rate.... I gotta go now. The preschool class had an outing for a theatrical production this morning... I've gotta run my big girl in as Mom is with the little one at the play. I'm meeting them in a few minutes and we're gonna hang with Mom for the day (the pre-schooler has no school every friday)... and I have packed a picnic lunch for all of us. Maybe we can have a "family moment" later this afternoon at a park with the 3 of us. Geography prevents the 4 of us from gathering while accompanying Mom at work today.

TTFN...

BIP... I really loved what you had to say ....

Sincerely - thank you for sharing....

TT again!
Thanks CaptainCrash. I'm glad my post didn't offend and that some feel where I'm coming from, so to speak. :)

iam trying to figure out our "darling" bip....was she "pip" in great
expectations....:confused3 ok!, i really like her spirit!, no doubt
where you stand with her!
:lmao:
LOL
so true... and you aren't the first to say that. No doubt where I stand... I am honest in my feelings and not afraid to tell anyone how I feel. You would always know where you stand with me, because I don't play around/play games/etc. :)

Did anyone who watched AI last night notice that Ryan Seacrest cut off Quincy Jones while he was speaking. What was up with that? :confused3 Anyone suprised by the results? I thought Antonella should've been voted off. Didn't think she sang good at all. :sad2:
Yes,I noticed that and I thought it was quite rude! I'm not sure if that was Ryan's fault or the producer's or whatever, but it was rude as all get out.
I agree, Antonella needs to go.

Hi... I just got caught up in reading the posts and I probably shouldn't post right now, because to be honest, I'm a little upset and bewildered. Yes I did read on the other board that they were having a picnic. Yes I did sign up on the other board and only have one post, as they have a rule about lurkers. I really feel like you are a bunch of fun people, and I was trying to do my bit to fit in by offering to look into this for a gathering. I'm sorry if you thought I was trying to push everyone onto meeting the other board. That wasn't my intent. It seems alot of you know each other from previous cruises, and this was my attempt to belonging. After reading all the responses to my offer to investigate, I don't really feel like one of the wenches on this cruise.

I feel bad and a little guilty typing this right now, but I do want to be apart of this group, and enjoy a fantastic cruise with all of you. Please let me know if you want me to look into this further as an event for the DIS Board pirates on the Saturday or Friday before the cruise on an evening other than the other board.

Smiles everyone :) :) :) :)
Oh no!
I'm so sorry for my part in making you feel this way. I really was sincerely confused when Lisa posted that (because I guess I just assumed you would ofcourse be talking about us as our own group) but THEN when she posted again... I misunderstood and thought she was saying that you were involved in their group doing this same thing, and then I spoke out of turn... so to speak... because I'd misunderstood that. (me and my biiiggg mouth!)

I really hate that you feel this way now and I hope I and everyone can make you feel more welcome and part of us in the future. Please forgive me. :(

I'm just afraid I'll be standing there on embarkation day in my neon green DIS repo T-**** and somebody will start throwing things at me.

Nah, they'll be throwing things at the one in the RED shirt. Oh wait- if you're in DIS green... maybe you should hang out near my family, we'll protect one another. :lmao:

Well, I'm afraid that I'll show up in my black T-****, and EVERYONE ELSE will be wearing neon green, covering their mouths with their hands, chuckling under their breaths, pointing at me and saying,
"HA HA!!! Jokes on you!!!":lmao: :lmao:

Ok, now I am afraid of that, too. Maybe I'll stick to a red T-****. But then will people mistake me for BIP?

They'll just think you're a rebel like me. :) :goodvibes

Whoa, I killed the thread?

SO while I am up ranting by myself . . .

Reading about people who received e-mails about the new ships reminded me of something.

I think Disney hates me.

We've been to a park (WDW or DL) every year since we had kids in 1998.
We had WDW passes when we lived in FL
Cruised DCL 2x - '08 will be 3, we're on an every other year schedule (CC members, right?)
I buy everything with my Disney Visa
Disney shareholders (OK 2 shares, but still!)
Buy oodles of stuff from Disney Shopping
Disney Insider e-mail list

HAVE I EVER RECEIVED A POSTCARD, E-MAIL, OR ANYTHING ELSE????
NNNNOOOOOOOO! We've certainly never been family of the minute for any department.

I even had to call 3 months after our last cruise to see if they would send me the little CD kit-thingy I found out about on the Dis.

Come on Mickey - where's the love?

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I really do wish we had a Target. Right now I wish it were at least 40 degrees warmer (it's -10).

BUT - this is about a block from my house.
eagle_river1_small.jpg

I'll take this any day.

That is a GREAT view.

I couldn't agree more....

... I grew up in my parents' business... a furniture and general merchandise store (about 5300') which they ran 365 days a year 11 to 7 or 6.... and til 9 or 11 on saturdays, holidays and really... as long as folks were out walking abuot we stayed open. So ... I grew up wondering what a vacation was.... I was seriously draming of one day going CAMPING as other kids spoke of it. My daily highlight was where we'd go for dinner and collecting my "pay" in case I sold anything that might warrent something extra. Generally, my parents paid me hourly and I renegotiated every now and then for more pay or a bigger percentage of what I sold. I learned to respect how hard it was to earn an AFTER-TAX and AFTER-EXPENSE dollar. One of regular routines was watching for shop-lifting teams that were generally easy to spot. We have lots of stories on the sorts we dealt with. Plus we talked a bit of how we invested and saved what we had. Really... there were lots of ideas thrown out on all sorts of things. Including everything involved in running the business.

Frankly... I think I would enjoy running a business again that dealt with the public. I sort of MISS the horse trading and counting of cash. In my occupation now there is almost no live cash passed and the negotiations are sort of "set" and less fun to me. In my family business it was positively entertaining most of the time. Smiles all around and ocassionally it was a laughable process (in a nice way). Lots of our patrons would return year after year to complete a look with matching pieces.

At any rate, my spouse knows I would work it 365 days a year and refuses to let me run a brick and motar retail or wholesale business. Although I speak of doing a franchise all the time as a business we could leave temporarily if it were "turn key". I think it would be good to stay busy and entertained when we retire fully someday.

I'll bet some folks think I'm totally crazy in that I'd buy into a 365 day a year (potentially) occupation IN RETIREMENT ... for fun.

CC, I really genuinely like people. I have fun while working most every day. But there is a lot of cash that goes through our registers and I guess it is just too tempting for some. The shoplifter problems we have aggravate me--
the new employees who you really haven't gotten a chance to know (so there is really no trust)--but the employees who have been with you for 2-10 years that you discover are stealing from you. It is that trust that gets broken. and those are the ones you would really like to send Vito after.

Hellooooooooo Everyone!!! And Happy Friday!

I conked out last night........but raring to go tonight!!

Hope everyone had a great day!!

Hey........I'm I see this right.......2 new DCL ships????? :cool1:

Looks like fish and parmesan noodles tonight. What's up at your place?

I trust all goes well for you DH's knee surgery!!! I've had 7 knee operations over the years, so I do feel for your DH.

That's one reason I had such a trying day yesterday, my left knee was so stiff because of the weather, I could hardly bend it at all.

Thanks Andy and everyone else. DH surgery went well. He says that he is feeling pretty good--but I think it is the oxycodone. But he is up walking a little and keeping it iced.

:
Bip, I totally agree with you about the mom thing. I too am a product of the protection of my parents. I was too afraid to disappoint my parents. We are also very strict with our kids and make sure they they know that where ever they are we can be. I have had several talks with DD and DS about these things and they know where we stand and what is expected of them. All this to say, I am glad to know there are others out there like Mark and I when it comes to these thing. But, unfortunately, I do know that there are kids out there that do not have the "fear of the consequence of their actions" My niece is a high school teacher in our area and she is convinced that most kids have some type of disconnect in their brains that cause them just not get it. I think we as parents really do have to keep up with what is going on. My mother worked 3 jobs, just to keep food on the table when I was in high school, (I worked also to help pay the rent) but she still knew where I was and what I was doing and of course, was great at the fear factor.:)

Ok, now I am afraid of that, too. Maybe I'll stick to a red T-****. But then will people mistake me for BIP?

And that would be a bad thing? :rotfl: Seems like you would be in good company.

What be a pirate's favorite way of listening to music?

On his ayePod.

Let's see....its Friday which means......I need to pack and head to the airport in a couple of hours to run away to Disneland for 5 days :cool1:

The question is... how many thousands of posts will I have to catch up on when I get back on Wednesday evening? Maybe I'll just have to take a 'puter with me LOL

Everyone have a great weekend.

Andy
Hope you have a wonderful time. :thumbsup2

I received some bad news when I woke up this morning and have been trying to deal with that. DH's GM died Wednesday night. I haven't been able to reach him yet but the service wont be for a couple weeks. She will be buried with her DH in Arlington National Cemetary so we have to wait for an opening. Gram was a very sweet lady who I didn't meet until her DH died, but she and the rest of the family treated me wonderfully. We had just sent out our engagement announcements the week before his accident. She has been in a rest home for quite a while since suffering with alzheimer's. She died peacefully in her sleep, so that is comforting.

I just wanted you to know if I am not around much today.

Lisa :grouphug: :grouphug: Sorry about the loss of DH's GM. :grouphug: I hope you can reach your DH soon......
