As I recall.... the royalty skim with McDonalds was an EYE POPPING 25% of sales. COmpared to other franchises in the low teens. Plus you have to consider there are contract obligations (like this redesign demand from HQ) and local/national advertising percentages. To say the average franchise rakes in $300-400K annually tells me the ROI is prety lean considering the capital requirements. BUT - it is a virtually guaranteed ROI which may vary upwards under expert management. And - for a generation transfer of wealth with a decent yield I can see the appeal a McD unit might have. Oh well... my conversation is drifting towards being thick FLUFF....

We have a Chevron station that we are going to have to reimage to the new standards in the next year or so. I will say that Chevron has badly needed this for a long time. But it is very expensive to update your facilities to meet the corporate demands. We had to do this at our Shell location in early 2004luckily my supplier paid for the bulk of it. But at least they don't take royalty skims........we just have to pay top $ for the gas we resell.
