I believe DCL is just doing it to mess with the minds of DIS readers. They give one person per day a stateroom, which causes DIS readers to get all excited and run off to check their reservations and then come back all gloomy.

Or am I just paranoid?

Hang in there! There are a lot of cruisers on GTY, I posted a while back in my own opinion that wholsale room assisgnments would not, occur for a long time, and gave various reasons. I did say a few where logical will be made.

  • If people are in groups and staterooms come available together.
  • If that Cat level is not 'overbooked'
  • Some maybe underbooked other cat lelevels overbooked.
  • If T/A's had 'returns' rooms assigned and then no deposit.

Now apart from above it gives DCL lots for flexibility with GTY's

They will not allocate all of these as

  • They do overbook knowing x% will cancel.
  • They might be overbooked in your Cat Grade and currently penciled in for an upgrade. They will not tell you that now, as you/ others might pay for an upgrade.
  • If as you say some people get assigned others will say, why not me?
  • If they assigned your room, you then might block, a mutliple room request if others around where the ones to cancel.
Hold in there, do not worry!

Andrew,
Just wanted to say THANKS for being the voice of reason to those of us with GTY staterooms! :flower3: I've lowered my stress about this by thinking about being waitlisted vs having a GTY. :scared1: :rotfl2:

You did not worry for the next 18 months, you will need a holiday by then, you are booked to go, you will go. So will all others who have GTY's unless they cancel.

I had a Cat 4 GTY last time, only allocated after the 90 day pay up time, but still a very good room in a very good location.

As I said before, I am not worried about not getting on the cruise. My only reason for even caring is I would like my CAT 6 and CAT 11 to be as close as possible to each other. Hoping for an upgrade does not help me as I do not wish to be upgraded. I would have to think twice about going on the cruise if it turns out our rooms are on different decks.

I am sure they will try their best Thats why I consider, there will be a delay, as they will try to complete everyones requests before allocating, hope it all comes good for you with rooms close together. Another poster said that they had herd DCL will allocate this weekend, hasnt hapened so far, as to peoples posts, but lets all hope.

A little more on DL for you all

For hotel and ticket packages a few good options are getawaytoday.com and Costco. They both offer hotel and ticket options, including the So Cal City Pass. I believe with the Costco package you also get a free character breakfast. AAA also has good packages but I don't have AAA so I don't have any info on those.

Also, in trying to describe the whole resort, for WDW veterans, I sometimes describe DL as Epcot Future World and CA as Epcot World Showcase. Sizes are not exact, but the 2 parks are that close. Then the walk to the resort hotels can be compared to walking to the Epcot resorts. Please not walk times are not the same and things are set up differently, but just to get a sort of picture in your mind, this may help.

 ,yep../me thinking you're soo right. [buck1fan] :thumbsup2

it's the overbooking that has me concern and the possibilities for
manipulation...mainly, from reading a poster during the christmas
cruise were bumped..that was the first time i ever heard of disney
cruise doing that....& then this is the first cruise i ever heard of where
no rooms re-entered the system & the on going wait list..:scared1:

[ since we obtained 2 rooms at he entry prices, i believe that in itself,
increase our chances for being bumped...just by the monies they can
now make off the 2 rooms.]

ha! to rugby, i say....swasbucklers & wenches riding bare back....on
sea hoeses...in my estimation , :snooty: would be more physical
attraction. :dance3: :bride: pirate: :bride: :dance3:

I think I quote a line from Bert in Mary Poppings at the start.
''This has all happened before and it will happen again.''

I saw a lot of this on the thread for the 2005 Repo, and I had a GTY as well.
Yes I read one post that it occured on Christmas cruise, they were contacted and they were happy, that was a month before our cruise went on sale. Hopefully DCL learnt from that, and also from the 2005 repo.

Ya figure there's any logic behind their overselling certain catagories more then others? Besides purely the NUMBER for each? I suspect they have a gameplan completely laid out in this type of circumstance. That is... if their marketing people did their homework properly.

On the upper management level they must have at least one contingency plan for this level of demand.:confused3

Oh... and good morning folks.... I won't be around too long today as there are more tasks at hand then I have time to finish... only it begins at a noon meeting then continues more or less through wednesday with a thick schedule.

They designed the ship with x rooms in each Cat and each deck, they cannot change that, They book to the demand of that cruise at that time, It is very usual to overbook lower Cats, they are cheaper and have higher demand, and that might be balanced with lower demand on higher CAT's.

They will 'book' the first 2,700 or so people that contact them, when they are full, they are full, they then,on slower booking cruises withdraw certain Cats, then, you have to book the available ones only. In this instance, they wouldnt have had time for a ,'model', as such, just a first past the post, and fill it in later.

To prove my point, Last REPO, I booked a CAT 8, upgraded to a CAT 4 GTY, when the cruise was full. I received a CAT 4, so they knew what they were doing, took more money from me, and whilst 'total' people on the cruise was full, some lower grades must have been oversold.

You are so right!!!!!! :thumbsup2 They can do pretty much whatever they feel like. I booked specific rooms twice. The first time DCL called to say my room Cat 8 #7008 was switched to 7586 A Cat 5 just two weeks before the cruise. The second time I booked a Cat 7 hidden verandh and kept the same room number for a year. :woohoo: There is no rhyme or reason why they do anything!!! :confused3 Once DCL gives a verandh, it is hard to ever go back to anything else. They hook you.:lmao:

Miss me guys....?

I am like a 100 pages back but plan to catch up by later in the week...

How bout that Anna Nicole? Scarey stuff...

Anyway rides....I used to be able to ride anything before DD was born...After that i can't even look at anything that spins (Merry go Round, merry mixer)

I did surprise myself and went on Mission Space Full Version in Aug 02. Loved it. But i did breath in, breathe out the whole ride.... Think i can just cross that off my list of rides and move on...

I have rode EE twice over two trips so far... DH refuses to try it... DD loves it and i think it was way better the second time... The first time i was so scared, i forgot to breathe and was pretty dizzy afterwards.

We all love Rnr Coaster...

Haven't done Soarin yet... (fast passes had run out or we didn't have more than an hour to wait in line)

Haven't been to BG since i was a kid..(the BBW wasn't even open yet) but i loved the loch ness monster.

Good to see you posting agin!
