I may have to put your son's poem on my son's door...to remind me how important those legos are when my mommy mind sees them as pointy, foot-hurting clutter.

I think the moto should be!!:woohoo:
Take What You Can Burn & Pillage The Rest

or should that be Pillage & Burn?:rotfl2:

Wow, that is one complicated band system! Our can start the summer before 4th grade and get in the beggining band after the pass page 10 or so in the lesson book. They get into advanced band after 30 pages or so. There is no ranking of the players there. In JH (7th and 8th), band is a class and they have lesson once a week. Most kids have already taken band before so they are automatically in. If you haven't, you still come to band class and sit with everyone. I guess they just practice so that they can eventually play along. Again, I don't believe there is any ranking of players besides grade. Not sure how HS is now, but there is probably rankings thee, but everyone plays in the same band.

They have to have rankings because they play in UIL (as a band), other concerts, etc. and some clarinets would need to play first clarinet music, some would need to play 2nd, and some 3rd (if there is a 3rd, some music there isn't). If they all were not ranked in seating, how would they decide who plays first clarinet music and who plays 2nd? 1st is harder, so those that play better are in the 1-4th or so chair and they play the first clarinet music, and it moves on down from there. It would not sound well in a concert if they had people playing first clarinet music that could not play it well and the better players playing 2nd clarinet music. They don't just practice and learn in band- they play concerts, at football games, etc. Just like highschool will. :confused3

It's not as complicated as I made it sound probably. They just have several bands in middle school because as of this year they have ALL the 7th and 8th graders for the entire town in the same middle school. Next year however they are going to take away intermediate school (which was all the 5th and 6th graders), put 5th graders back in elementary schools all over town (a choice I agree with!) and they are going to use both intermediate school and middle school buildings to divide up and make it into 2 middle schools, both having 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Doing it this way, I would venture a guess that they wouldn't have quite as many 7th/8th graders in band at each school this way- so they will probably be able to have less "bands" in middle school. Right now they have wind ensemble, symphonic, concert and beginner. I would imagine beginner band would be 6th graders and those starting to play in 7th grade, and with the kids then divided up between two schools instead of all at one- they will probably be able to have just 2 bands besides beginner band, we'll see.

But we had "chairs" even in my day- which was over 20yrs ago. LOL It was based on how you did on the tests for the music they learned. Those that did better moved up in what chair they were amidst their instrument (for instance clarinet) because they tested better on that music and therefore should be the ones playing the more difficult music (ie: 1st clarinet music). It makes for better concerts that way too. :yay:

I like the one with the front, then back.

Say...

... I think that was MY idea...

The front and back thing on TAKE WHAT YOU CAN GET.... then on the reverse... GIVE NOTHING BACK!

Unless... that is ... someone else mentioned it before I did...

So - I'm just checking in... gonna start looking back from here to see whats going on.

OK...just caught up with the new emails and here is the new count.

160 Captain's
110 Late and will stay there
83 Late and WLE
353 Total DISers & family members signed up with group so far!

All the ones you've posted look great.

I think we're going to need a poll at some time to pick the "official" shirt.

The banner that we use for the sigs will go on the front and you can pick the skull & crossbones that you want for the back. pirate:

OUCH!!!! I hate that too!

Here is how the dining looks with the group so far out of the 318 posted on the manifest.

146 Captain's
100 Late
72 WLE for Captain's but currently in late

Does the 72 WLE include my group with 30 PAX? My best guess is my party will remain where-ever they can fit us in. Shifting 30 PAX into the same general vicinity is all I'm hoping for as a 1st consideration. If we can hook up with the early dining folks it would be nice - but I suspect we'll have plenty of DIS pals in every dining venue and shift.

Have you sent in your family's information? The manifest will only include the 4 of you but when we link dining that listing will include everyone in your party. :thumbsup2

Oh - even tho I live in MN now - both DH and I are from LA - we can answer LOTS of ?s...

Welcome aboard!!

First question . ..
What possessed you to move from LA (nice warm sunny climate) to MN (scary cold winter climate) . . .LOL???:3dglasses

Lisa,
Can you explain to me how the linked dining works? My family of 4 and my parents are in early (oops sorry, Captain's) dining....we requested a table of 6, but it's not a problem if they put us at a large with a couple of other people....If we all link dining (as a DIS group), would that mean they will try to seat us all near one another? That would be great, if I understand this correctly....

And just to clarify, if we all link dining, and some are listed in late seating, would they (DCL) move us all as a group to late dining if that is the only time slot that could accommodate everyone? Sorry....I've never done the linked dining, and just want to be clear....TIA!
