Tom, I guess in this instance you really can claim innocence. But I wasn't in chat--no telling what you said in there:rotfl: :rotfl:

Apparently Crash spent most of the day drinking like/with JR, so what he said in there shouldn't be held against him. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

(What do ya think Tom, I slighted you and defended you in the same sentence?)

Evening All !!

My sincere apologies for not being here for so long but I have been so busy with work since we came back from WDW. I have been involved in a committee that has been maintaining our Government department business throughout a national postal strike that took me all the way up to the end of November. Since then I have been away from home for lots of meetings as the Government is introducing a new Social Security benefit next year and I am involved in the set-up for this.

I have had no annual leave since September and have worked most Saturdays. Whilst the double-time has been good, I have had little time to spend it. However, I have been regularly buying US Dollars wherever I've been working, as the rate for us in the UK has been fantastic. It also means that I've paid for the cruise in full!

I am now off work for two weeks and will seeze the opportunity for lots of rest. I called back to my office yesterday to give everyone on my command a Christmas present and it was the busiest day before Christmas I have ever experienced in my time working as a Civil Servant.

I have been constantly nagged by Helen and Alex to go on the Disboards but I just been either too busy or too tired. In my time away, thank you to everyone who sent e-mails, Christmas cards and letters.

This is also my first opportunity to thank everyone we met in August in September for their friendship and extremely kind hospitality. I am ashamed to mention that I still have to upload some photos of one of our meets.

I won't overstay my welcome on my first time back so I'll catch you all soon.

Best wishes

David & family

Seeing all those Xmas type photos & ones that don't quite work as expected, thought i'd share some DH took last month that he hopes to use in his portfolio for his Photography City & Guilds:

Welcome back!!

Good to see you, quite a few were asking about you in your absence.

We all get caught up in work and life from time to time, hope it slows down to a dull roar for you!

Hey Capt.,

A few new pirates on the pirate page. You may be interested that their pics include pirate garb, should fit in well on pirate night!

Just FYI

Welcome back, and have a great Christmas, I thought you were looking for those two CD's!

Don't even joke about those damn CDs - I knew about it a few hours before it hit the news and EVERY Government Department was trembling. Although it wasn't the DWP, we had e-mails flying around for hours. For what it's worth, those CDs cannot be anywhere they shouldn't. They will either be sitting in the wrong office somewhere or in a secure courier depot just waiting to be found.

They will be a the bottom of a sack somewhere. Otherwise they would have been on Ebay by now!

A GLOSSARY TO HELP THE NEWBIES (Part 1)
veteran pirates, please add at will... and yes I actually mean add, not a**!

As someone who first appeared on pg. 35, I'll start:

TOAL - Tripofalifetime. Our mantra on booking day as the pricing rolled in, and what many of us have come to refer to this cruise as

Groundhog - as in the movie Groundhog Day. Originally began as the pricing question came up over and over again. Now the GTY question seems to be our biggest groundhog. (watch out, he packs heat)

We Like Cake - well, we do. If you were so inclined you could scroll through this thread and find many cakes. Many references to cake and even a consolidated list of every cake item that was available during dinner on the 2005 repos.

Swabbies - stinkin' guys on the thread (except the Captain)

Wenches - probably the only situation that you could refer to the lovely women here as such, but it is perfectly acceptable, so don't take offense or run screaming if someone calls you a wench.

Freak Flag - as in "Let Your Freak Flag Fly", as in be yourself, as freaky as you want to be. You will notice that in a burst of creativity last spring many pirates put freak flags in their sigs or avatars (mine is in my avatar) . Gosh I miss MR

Cordless Blender - snarfle

How funny... I had hoped we would have broken out the Swabbies into the shifty Swabbie group and a 2nd INNOCENT Swabbie group... with me assigned to the appropriate group!

Black and White
(Under age 40? You won't understand.)

You could hardly see for all the snow,
Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.
Pull a chair up to the TV set,
"Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet."

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in ice-pack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli.

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE ... and risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

Flunking gym was not an option . even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station, Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.

Oh yeah ... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did) and then we got our butt spanked.

Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked there and then we got butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop, just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof. It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that?

We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes? We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?

LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA, AND TO ALL WHO DIDN'T; SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING.

Thanks for sharing this Monica.:goodvibes :goodvibes

That's great Monica! It made me think of some myself - remember riding bikes without helmets? Sharing the same glass with your friends? Dropping a piece of candy on the street and picking it right back up and eating it? Roller skating without all the protective gear? Having to get up and walk to the tv to change the channel? And there were only 7 channels! Those were the days!

This was sooo entertaining to read. I can recall doing a lot of the things mentioned in the preceeding 3 postings. It really makes me reflect without really feeling the "pinch" of my age much. Thanks Monica for sharing this!

OK, I've about had it with this mall traffic.

Andy, I totally agree. There are parts of Louisville I avoid like the plague during Christmas. I had to go into one of the malls a week ago Friday to return something. All my shopping this year has been online or at Sam's while I am waiting for them to pull my cigarette orders.:)

So what kind of CDs are misplaced.:confused3

I thought I'd add to the pretty holiday photos. Here are a couple of wreaths from the Magic that I took earlier this month...

Usually I stay clear of the mall this time of year, but with Angelina working there, I don't have much of a choice. Hazel called a few minutes ago, she told me that one of the ladies that was meeting at Friendly's only lives two blocks away and it took her 15 minutes to get there, that's how bad the traffic was.
