Storybook Canal Boat ride at DL. Great for the young ones and the rest of us to take a break from walking.

That's what I need now, a nice boat ride. They had the boat parade the other night and I totally forgot about it. 3rd year in a row I forgot.:confused3

WOW! I just caught up with 42 pages  Actually, the thread must have been fairly slow because I was offline for 10 days... I was last here the Friday before our final rehearsal for our concert - it turned out to be the rehearsal from h***. We were there from 7pm to 11:15pm - most of it standing and waiting for the orchestra to figure out what they were doing. Then the stupid ice storm hit on Saturday and my inlaws couldn't drive here to babysit - fortunately, some friends who were unable to drive to visit THEIR grandkids were able to step in! We drove through interesting weather to go sing and did at least have a small audience. It was all exhausting though and I just vegged on Sunday.

I rarely manage to DIS during the week and thought I would get caught up on Friday and maybe get to chat - instead one of our cats became ill and we spent the evening at the vet. He didn't really recover much over the weekend, so I spent hours forcing water into him so he wouldn't get dehydrated and took him back to the vet this morning. Good news is that after the barium test they know he isn't blocked and he is responding to the new medications - looks like he is going to make it! :dance3: We were all really bummed over the weekend when he wouldn't eat or drink at all ... we have 6 cats, but Vincent is special. Even our freinds and neighbors love him! He is very social and is the cat that meets you at the door, lets little kids lug him around, sleeps with DS8 every night, etc.

We are slowly getting the decorations up here - when they are done I will post photos. DH has spent HOURS outside with his lights! I'll try and get pictures of that also, but we are supposed to get another ice storm starting in a couple hours so until that melts I am not going to try and lug a camera and tripod around the icy sidwalks. :scared1:

DS8 and I did a gingerbread house last week - so I guess there is another photo I need to post!

Cookies! Aagghhh! I had planned to really get to that this past weekend and instead I was putting water down a cat's throat with an eye-dropper! We make gingersnaps, snickerdoodles, gingerbread, oatmeal-raisin, peanut-butter, and sugar-cookie cutouts. I was also thinking of trying to make my grandmother's Danish sugar cookies since she really isn't up to it anymore. I probably should have been starting the cookies this evening, but I was so relieved to get our cat back from the vet with a good prognosis and so exhausted from the stress of the last few days that I spent the evening doing "ketchup" here instead!

That reminds me of when my now 27ds was 6 and in first grade. The teacher called me EVERY night!
teacher *Michael sat on his knees during lunch today.*
me *Did it cause him to bother the other children?*
teacher *No. But, he's not allowed to sit on his knees.*

next night....
teacher*Michael talked during lunch today.*
me*Was he yelling?*
teacher*No, but, the kids shouldn't speak during lunch.*

WTHeck?????? When else can they talk to each other???????

I'm thinking there were more important things for her to concern herself other then the fact that my son sometimes sat on his knees and other times he actually......sat....on one foot in his seat! :scared1: The horror!

It is really sad that there are multiple 1st grade teachers like this. DS8 is just now (in 3rd grade) recovering from a teacher like this in 1st! He is extremely sensitive about things and this woman regularly Screamed at the class, was constantly sending home notes similar to your's above and had nothing good to say - ever! She managed to convince him that is was "wrong" to ask a teacher a question  He had a good 2nd grade teacher, but he never really was willing to talk or participate in class and was still 'scared' of teachers. This year is a major breakthrough - he actually LIKES his teacher and is talking to her and will even occasionally ask questions. Why on earth are these people teaching 1st grade if they dislike kids this much?

I'll try and get back on in the next day or two and post some of those photos!

Cheryl - Yes, I still owe you a phone call! I did leave a message one day - but then life got out of hand again ....

Ooohh! A pirate run!

Darn - I'm actually here for one and I am so exhausted I really doubt I'll make it to the end!:rotfl2:

Oh well - I think I am fated to always miss them. I have been present, I believe, for a whole 2 in the course of this entire thread!
