I'll never get caught back up again. I can understand the race for the milestone.....but wow.....a bunch of Chatty Cathys!!!

On the other hand, I have to say that the "fluff" on the thread is a way to make friends, and having friends on the cruise makes for a more intense and memorable vacation. So we have to try to strike a balance between allowing the friendships to form on the thread, with all its nuttiness, and making sure that everyone who is interested has access to the information.

So true, on our past DCL cruises we always ran into fellow DIS'ers on the ship, port, terminal or island(s).

Our past RCI cruise meets thread wasn't very active and we didn't get to meet any from the CC board. Although we had a nice time on the cruise, I think meeting others, of likemind, would have made it more enjoyable.

I went into Phoenix...well, actually Scottsdale...with a friend yesterday and managed to pick up what few Christmas presents I needed. My kids are each getting one thing, since we're cruising at Christmas and again in June....and my brothers and I decided we'd skip gifts this year and only do for the littlest kids. Toys R Us was having a great sale, so I got the little ones taken care of.
We made a couple of other stops and I got my parents' gifts, too.
Whoo hoo.
Stupid me, I was shooting for Southwest points....should have put more thought into that and gone with the Disney ones. :headache:

I saw the musical Sweeney Todd first about 15 years ago, in its first revival. Then when they revived it again 2 years ago (the version originally done in London, where the actors also serve as the orchestra, playing instruments on stage) I was so taken by it I saw it three times. I will be interested to see Tim Burton's take on it . . . I know Johnny Depp started out in a rock band and took an acting job to make ends meet, so I'm sure he can sing. I don't know what the general populace will think of the musical, though, to say it's dark is a huge understatement. It seems as though it could be too dark and bloody for the literary set and too literary for people who enjoy "Saw 3"!

He was in a band, The Kids, but he was a guitarist and only sang back up minimally. He said he considered voice lessons before the film but was told that it's more about the emotion of the song rather than perfect notes so he never took lessons. The small clips I've heard sound decent.

I don't think anyone expects this movie to be a big hit. It's just something that Burton has been wanting to do. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when they find out it's a musical. No matter, I'll be seeing it opening weekend.

Good luck trying, I gave up!

Me too. Just too much to do in real life.

We've been going over finances :scared1: What do you think our chances would be of changing stateroom categories? We're in a 6 and I was thinking of trying to move down to save some bucks,or is that not an option?

I had the same thought in 2005 for our Mexican cruise (we'd booked a CAT 6)... By the time I could get a room the cost for a CAT 10 was *MORE* than the price I had on the CAT 6. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Me, I'm still planning on an upgrade somehow. But that'll have to wait until after the 90 day mark.

That's the same minister who performed my daughter's ceremony on Castaway Cay. I can still remember his wonderful voice!

CRASH....they bake the wedding cakes right on the ship....and yes, you're given a choice of fillings. They do a beautiful job.

We did it on our 2005 RC Cruise..........was a Blast !!!!! Aruba has Sooooo many great excursions........This will be our 3rd visit...so if ya have any questions ask away.........remember I dont read backwards. So if ya really want an answer...best to PM me............ LOL

I (with help of others) intend to create a "sign up" page on the website. Maybe not actually sign up for stuff there, but a one stop shop for all the key things people are doing (e.g. fish extender lists, etc.)

Idea is one page with links:

Fish Extender List
Bus from DL to Port
Group excursion in XXX port
etc.

and link will take you to info and contact person/page/info for it.

Probably after 1st of year will work on this in more detail.

Also, I am very, very, very, very, very open to suggestions on things like this.

As said in my post, ( and our PM) The really great thing is the support WEBSITE for this thread, I think the Pirate zone is fantastic, and a quick and easy place to find information. We need it as, now you cannot navigate this thread.

To give an example, I have posted the odd post or two on the '09 thread' its a victim of its own success, people do not wish to look back a couple of pages, on it now, they post as such, rather either start a new thread, or ask the question again, So now I have posted some summaries.

Andrew, I agree that it is crucial that we have an easy way for the truly relevant cruise-related information to get to everyone who is interested. I think Tom has a terrific idea for the website, and we just have to be sure that anyone who is interested can get to that information (for example, if we require a certain number of posts to get on the other website but someone is intimidated by this thread and doesn't post, how do we get it to them?). As it stands now there is a lot of information that anyone can access on the pirates website without joining, isn't that right, Tom?

On the other hand, I have to say that the "fluff" on the thread is a way to make friends, and having friends on the cruise makes for a more intense and memorable vacation. So we have to try to strike a balance between allowing the friendships to form on the thread, with all its nuttiness, and making sure that everyone who is interested has access to the information.

Oh I do agree, don't get me wrong, we have made some great Friends here, maybe my point, in a direct way, is not having a pirate run starting some 400 posts out. Soon it will start as the other one ends.

I think we should just be respectful, that others might fund it very difficult now to navigate this impressive thread.

If any of us See's any new joiners we should direct them as soon as possible to the support Website to ensure we keep hold of them!

Hope I haven't upset anyone by thinking aloud!:teacher:

I just realized I became a Disveteran!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah me!

Hey Chrissie--I think everyone becomes a DISveteran after their 75th post, that's if they don't change their tag before then.........;)

Thank you to everyone for the kind thoughts on our fall at the MK last weekend. I am doing pretty well - my neck is a little stiff still, but as long as I stop every few hours and ice it, I'm pretty much able to do everything I normally do. For those who asked, YES - several people stopped to help us. The people we were immediately behind (they were sitting on the curb waiting for the parade) helped us up and one lady even went and got ice and napkins for us for some quick first-aid. They were very nice and even missed the very beginning of the parade helping us. At the end of the parade, one of them came back over to us (we just stayed put and recovered during the parade - it was a good distraction for DS8!) and gave DS a pin. It is one of the ones that the cast members give people with one to keep and one to pass on.

It looks like we are posting wedding pictures - here are 2 of ours. I may have posted one of these before. DH would NOT be pleased that I was posting one with him - he looks pretty funny with those huge glasses. But they were fairly fashionable back in the late 80's when we got married...

I think I mentioned before that my mother made my dress - she also did my hat (starting with a basic form and basically decorating it).

So we all should be thanked for providing a free weekend?:confused3 :lmao:

Defninitely. :rotfl2:

It has been so long since I have been "on the boards". Mustve been around 76,000 when I last posted!

Work has me totally running ragged (and this is supposed to be my slow season). If it werent for the TOAL (and the fact that I am getting all the time off I need for the trip), I would consider interviewing for a new job! I worked so much OT lately, that I passed out on Fri nite and missed the chat.

...

Still have not replaced the hot water heater (this was a topic on a chat a few weeks ago). Am using the coil in the oil fired steam boiler for hot water. But am considering a gas fired tankless hot water system. Anyone have one of these installed? I hear they are energy efficient (vs a tank hot water system).

Hi Sil!

You hang in there, you hear??

We thought about going tankless when the pilot light knob broke off our water heater. Did the same research at Tom, but didn't come to any conclusion. Since our water heater is outside - we don't have the venting issues some will have. And friends of our have a tankless and love it!

In the end, DH got out the locking pliers, used them to turn the place where the knob went, and got the water heater started again. Though, we're living on borrowed time... ;) If it ever goes out, and he's not here - we'll be getting a new water heater, cause no one but him can light it. and he may refuse a second time as it was a real chore.

Debi, you got your ticker back!:goodvibes

Debi was missing her ticker?? That sounds serious! Is it as bad as a lopped off pickle??

Our youngest dog, Taiko has a shoe fetish. That is, he collects "loose" shoes in the house (to the point of getting into the closet) and brings them to the dog bed. He never damages them, just collects them - one from a pair, never both. We've also had problems in the past with him charging the door and running off. Though when he escapes now - we stay at home (since chase is the game he most loves) and yell at him to come back. He usually hits the end of the cul-d-sac and returns.

Anyway, one of the boys left the door open this afternoon and Taiko took himself for a run. Since we were busy unpacking from shopping, and getting a late lunch, no one noticed. DH went into the garage and found him, tounge lolling, with a still tied ladies walking shoe in his mouth. So, the questions of the hour were "Is there a little old lady somewhere that he knocked down and stole the shoe from off her foot?" and "To whom do we return this shoe??"

Fortunately, the shoe belonged to the neighbor - who had left the pair on the doorstep. But, he had us worried there for a bit. Well, at least he got some exercise today...

Here's a recent picture of the perpertrator ...
