Happy 13th & 6th Anniversary M!!!

A funny thing happened over the weekend. Angelina asked if she could get her hair highlighted (again), I said sure, but you are working, you can pay for it now. Once she found out how much it was going to cost, she changed her mind and said she could use those $$$$ for other things. It's funny when kids have to use their own $$ for things us parents use to pay for, they find out they don't need it, or want it, quite as much!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Mind if I whine again for a bit??? Oh good thanks! ;)

Well we hired a contractor a few years back to side our house, put in new windows, new roof, front porch & 2 new decks. Everything was great for about the first week. Got a new roof & new windows, but then the contractor fired his whole crew. After that the job slows down to a crawl. Next thing ya know he disappears for a few months & comes back to work sporadically complaining the whole time about how his life is going to pot & he can't even afford to heat his house. I said to DH, this man is not licensed or insured & I'm afraid with all his woes....he's about to fall off the ladder & sue us! So DH fires him & we are left with a front porch half done, decks not put on, etc. & job pretty much completely paid for & siding that is falling off & fading because it was cheap & put on wrong!

Now we just want to sell this place & DH wants to just sell it as a fixer upper & let someone else deal with the headache. Mind you we just paid 8k to have our basement stop flooding. :sad2: I say it would be too embarrassing to have friends & neighbors come trampsing through our open house & see how we really live! I.e. The tile in the upstairs bathroom needs to be completely replaced along with the 70's vanities in both baths not to mention the trim for the windows & painting that hasn't been done yet! :sad2:

So anyway DH finally agrees to get ANOTHER home equity loan to fix this place & sell it. Guess what? They turned us down!!! We can't get a loan because our house is "illegal" with missing railings etc. We don't want to fix railings on decks & porches that are pretty much being torn down but we can't afford to replace them unless we get a loan! :headache:

Sorry for the rant! I feel better now!

Try this website. Tell the contractor he owes you $$ for the undone work.

A Massachusetts Consumer Guide to Home Improvement

By law, the contractor cannot collect more than one-third of the cost of the contract in advance, unless special order materials are needed.

Diane, you can whine to us anytime.
I don't have any words of wisdom for you, except we to have fired a contractor and have been stuck with work we weren't to happy with.

We did Alaska the summer of '06 so '09 would be perfect to go back. Alaska is my favorite vacation destination.
I actually looked into Hong Kong a couple years ago so I might have to check that out as well.

I sppose I would consider Alaska but I would want to link with a train journey accross Canada.

But dissapointed its not Med or Europe so may consider the Wonder for 7 nights in the carribean instead,

Or do they just christen one of the new ships with Med and Europe journeys?

Woo Hoo!!

I went shopping the other day for our princess formal night. Here are my goodies:goodvibes

These are amazing - would you mind saying where you got them? I love 'em.

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to keep up. Have been having a really rough time with the recovery of this surgery. Seems I hit a snag at every turn and it's really been wearing me down.

I've gained a whole new appreciation for people who spend their lives in wheelchairs. It's a whole 'nother world from this vantage point, that's for sure.
I hope to be semi-walking by the middle of next week. It will have been over 5 weeks by that time.

Hang in there Stace - you'll be walking before you know it... Just remember that you'll save time by taking it slower than you want to. Give your body time to do what it needs to.

they got lucky ...:lmao: :lmao: they should have lost that game without a doubt ..

Never undervalue dumb luck & ignorance.

My hopes were dashed today. I was REALLY hoping the 2008/09 school year would start later and the girls would not miss any school for the TOAL.
I got a sneek peek of the 2008/09 calendar and dang if they are not starting on the 25th. That means my worst case scenario is coming to play- they will miss the entire 1st week of school, and for Megan it will be the whole 1st week of middle school. dang, dang, dang. Oh well! They will have to make the best of it.

If its not set in stone yet, call and complain or register recommendation for change. If they get enough calls they may move it. You would really hate to find out later that with a handful more calls they would have changed it...

I sent an email to the committee head but don't expect much to change. Prior to this year school year, school has started in mid-August. This year due to "tourism":sad2: the legislature decided to permanently move the start to no earlier than the 4th Monday in August. So there are the majority of people who would be very unhappy if they moved it back later than the required earliest day.
The sneek peek did mention a choice of having the full Thanksgiving week like we already have or only have Wed-Friday. I voted for the short week but I bet I am the only one. It is just inconceivable to me for the kids to be in school in the 2nd week of June. That seems so late.
